AutoT alk allows you to answer a call by just rem oving the han dset from the base so you d on ’ t have to waste time pushin g buttons . AutoStandby allows you to han g up by simply returning th e handset to the base .

Connect the base unit 1) Conn ect the AC ad apter to the DC IN 9V jack an d to a stand ard 120V AC wall outlet. 2) Set th e base and charg er (for TRU446-2 only) on a desk or tabletop, an d place the handset in th e base unit as shown.
[ 14 ] GETTING ST ARTED D. Choose the dialing mode Most ph one systems use ton e dialing, whi ch sends D TMF tones thr ough the phon e lines. However som e phone system s still use pulse dialing su ch as in rural areas . The d efault setting is ton e dialing.
T o chang e your Caller ID options: 1) Wh en the phon e is in the standby m ode , press menu/mute . 2) Pr ess + or - to move the poin ter to “ Caller ID Setup ” , then pr ess select/ch . 3) Pr ess + or - to choose “ Auto Talk ” or “ CIDCW ” , then pr ess select/ch .
GETTING ST ARTED [ 16 ] Entering Y our Ar ea Code If you enter a 3-di git area code n umber in the “ Area Code ” option, your local ar ea code d oes not appear in Caller ID messag es. For calls received fr om outside your local area cod e, you will see a full 10-di git number .
[ 17 ] GETTING ST ARTED Langu age option can be used to ch oose the langu age of your display . Y ou can select English, Fr ench, or Spanish. 1) Wh en the phon e is in the standby m ode , press menu/mute . 2) Pr ess - to move th e pointer to “ Language “ , then pr ess select/ch .

[ 19 ] BASICS BASICS Redialing a Call The last thr ee phone n umbers dialed can be quickly r edialed. Redialing from Standb y Mode 1) Press r edial/p . The phon e number that was last dialed appears on the display . 2) Press r edial/p again. Each press of r edial/p will display one o f the last three n umbers dialed.
1) When the ph one is in the stan dby mode , press menu/mute . 2) Press select/ch . 3) Press + or - to move the poin ter through th e ringer settings (Rin ger Off, Ring er Low , or Rin ger High). Y ou will hear a rin ger or melod y at the selected volum e.
“ Distinctive Rin ger ” allows you to preset m emory location s with a design ated ring ton e. When an in coming call is received an d the Caller ID inform ation match es the inf ormation in one o f the mem ory locations , the Distin ctive Ring that has been stored f or that particular caller will soun d.
BASICS [ 22 ] Mute Microphone • The ton e feature only applies wh en the di al mode is set to pulse . • This special n umber can be stored in a mem ory location. This is referr ed to as Chain Dialin g (See page 30.) Y ou can temporarily turn Off th e microph one so that th e person you are talkin g with cannot hear you.

PHONEBOOK [ 24 ] Phon ebook allows you to dial a number usin g just a few key presses . Y our phon e stores nam es/numbers in th e phonebook m emory location, an d you can search nam es in alphabetical ord er . Y ou have a total o f 100 locations that can be used f or the phon ebook (includin g the Speed dials) an d Caller ID messages .

Y ou must subscribe to Caller ID service to use this feature . When th e telephone rin gs, the Caller ID featur e allows you to view the caller ’ s n ame and phon e number on the display bef ore you answer th e phone . A ddition ally , you can dial th e displayed number an d store the inf ormation f or memory di aling.
CALLER ID [ 32 ] V iewing the Caller ID List • The n umber of calls from th e same Caller ID appears ne xt to the r eceived time . Once you have revi ewed the new messag e, th e number will be cleared and disappears .
Deleting a Caller ID message 1) While the incomin g Caller ID informati on is displayed, press xfer/del . “ Delete Message? ” appears. 2) Press + or - to choose “ Yes ” or “ No ” . 3) Press select/ch or xfer/del . When the pointer is at “ Y Y e e s s ” : A ton e sounds an d the Caller ID messag e is deleted.
Calling a party from the Caller ID list From Standb y mode 1) Press cid/> . Th e summary screen appears . The screen sh ows the number o f new messag es and the total n umber of m essages. 2) Use the n umber keypad ( 2 - 9 and 0 ), + , or - to vi ew the Caller ID messag e list.
CALLER ID [ 3 5 ] Call W aiting Deluxe Features • T o activate features , select “ CW Deluxe On ” in the Caller ID setup. See page 15. • Y ou can also answer a waiting call immedi ately by pressin g talk/flash , the first caller will be placed on hold .

T o tr ansfer a call (to the second handset) 1) Press xfer/del d uring a call. The call will autom atically be placed on hold an d the tran sfer tone sounds . 2) When the oth er handset receives th e call, the tran sfer tone stops. T o cancel the tran sfer , pr ess xfer/del or talk/flash on the han dset.

Security code Y ou can chang e the digital security cod e , only from the ori ginal handset.
ADDITIONAL INFORMA TION [ 40 ] The di gital security code is an id entificati on code used to connect th e handset an d the base unit. Norm ally , setting th e code is n ot necessary . The first time you charg e your handset, th e security code is automati cally set.
