Important Electrical Considerations Unplug all electrical appliances when you know an electrical s torm is approaching. Lightning can pass through your household wiring and damage any device connec ted to it. Your phone is no exception. Warning: Please do not attempt to unplug any appliance during an electrical storm.
Radio Inte rfe re nce Radio interference may oc casionally cause buzzing and humming in y our cordless Hands et, or clicking noises in the Base Unit. This interference is caused by exter nal sources such as TV, refriger ator, vacuum c leaner, fluorescent lighting, or electric al storm.
Installation Selecting a Location Before choosing a location for y our new phone, there are some important guidelines you should cons ider: • The location should be clos e to both a phone jack and continuous power outlet. (A continuous power outlet is an AC outlet which does not have a switch to interrupt its power.
Connecting the Telephone Cords Consider these safety guidelines before connec ting the telephone cords: CAUTION: • Never install telephone wiring dur ing a lightning storm. • Never touch uninsulated telephone wir es or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected.
Adapter Safety Feature The AC adapter furnished with this phone may be equipped with a polarized line plug — a plug having one blade wider than the other. This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. If you ar e unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try rever sing the plug.
2. Plug the AC Adapter cord into the 9V DC input jack on the Base Unit. 3. Place the AC Adapter cord inside the molded channel. 4. Plug one end of the long telephone cord into the TEL LINE jack on the Base Unit.
5. Plug the other end of the cord into the telephone jack on the wall. 6. Plug the AC Adapter into a standard 120V AC wall outlet. 12.
Placement of the Handset The unique design of your phone allows you to place the Handset on the Base Unit either facedown or in an upright pos ition. The battery is char ged in either position. Wall Install ation Standard Wall Plate Mountin g These phones are des igned to be mounted on a standard AT&T or GTE wall plate.
2. Place the AC Adapter cord inside the molded channel. 3. Plug one end of the short telephone cord into the TEL LINE jack on the Base Unit. 4. Place the telephone cord inside the molded channel on the bottom of the Base Unit. Then plug the other end of the telephone cord into the modular jack on the wall.
5. Place the Base Unit on the posts of the wall plate and push down until it’s firmly seated. 6. Plug the AC Adapter into a standard 120V AC wall outlet.
Direct Wal l Mounting If you do not have a standard wall plate, y ou can mount your phone directly on a wall. Before mounting your phone consider the following: • Select a location away from electr ical cables, pipes, or other items behind the mounting location that could cause a hazar d when inserting screws into the wall.
3. Place the AC Adapter cord inside the molded channel. 4. Plug one end of the long telephone cord into the TEL LINE jack on the Base Unit. 5. Place the cord inside the molded channel on the bottom of the Base Unit.
6. Place the Base Unit on the screws and push down until it’s firmly seated. 7. Plug the other end of the telephone line cord into the wall jack. 8. Plug the AC Adapter into a standard 120V AC wall outlet.
Setting t he Handset Retainer The handset retainer holds the Handset in place if your phone is mounted on a wall. The steps below des cribe how to remove and replace the retainer s o that the tab faces up. 1. Push up on the Handset retainer on the Base Unit, and slide the tab out.
3. Put the retainer back into its slot on the Base Unit. 4. Push down on the Handset retainer until it snaps into place. 20.
Setting up your Phone Extending the Antenna Before using your phone, be sure to raise its antenna to the vertical position. Install ing the Handset Batte ry Pack 1.
2. Slide the battery compartment cover down. 3. Align the plastic connector of the Nickel-Cadmium battery pack with its soc ket and plug it in. 4. Place the battery pack ins ide the battery compartment, and slide the battery cov er back on.
Cleaning the Batte ry Contacts To maintain a good charge, it is impor tant to clean all charging contacts on the Handset and Base Unit about once a month.
Charging the Batter y Pack Initial Battery Char ging The rechargeable Nic kel-Cadmium battery pack must be fully char ged before using your phone for the first time. We recommend that the battery pack charge for approx imately 15-20 hours, without interr uption, before plugging the phone line into your new phone.
2. Make sure the CHARGE LED lights. If the LED doesn’t light, check to see that the AC adapter is plugged in, and that the Handset is making good contact with the Base Unit charging contacts . Continuous Battery Chargi ng For the best battery performance, return the Hands et to the Base Unit at the end of the day.
Low Batter y Indicator When the Battery Pack in the Handset is very low and needs to be charged, the TALK/BAT T LOW LED flashes. If the TALK/BAT T LOW LED begins to flash, the phone is programmed to eliminate its functions to sav e power. The table below describes what to do to return your phone to nor mal operation.
Setting the Tone/P ulse Sw itch Be sure the TONE/PULSE switch is in the TONE position. Note: Most phone s ystems are Tone dialing. Check with y our local phone company if you are not sur e whether your s ystem is Tone or Pulse dialing. Adjusting Ri nger Contr ols To adjust the ringer v olume of your Hands et, press when the phone is not in use.
You can also select one of two different ringer tones for the Handset. Press to selec t a different ringer tone when the phone is not in use. Automatic Digi tal Code Securi ty Many cordless telephones operate similar ly and on the same frequency. Without digital code security, another Handset could make calls us ing your Base Unit and telephone line. To avoid unauthorized c alls on your phone, a Digital Code feature was added to all phones.
If the Base Unit loses power while the Handset is off the Base, the Digital Code may be erased. When this happens, the Hands et will not function. To establish communication between the Hands et and Base Unit: 1. Remove the Handset from the Base Unit (if it is on the Base Unit).
Using your XC3510 Phone Maki ng and Rece iving Calls The following features of the phones are different depending on the Handset’s location when you mak e or receive a call.
Changing Channe ls, Fla sh, and Page /Fi nd To change channels or access call waiting while the phone is in use, or to use the 1-way page to locate the Hands et, follow these steps: PRESS THESE KEYS YOU WILL HEAR CHANGING CHANNELS Press H Note: Change channels to help eliminate background noise.
