2 V irtual 3D Surround sound typically requires several speakers situat ed in front of and behind the listening position, which requir es a substantial amount of spac e that may not alwa ys be available. The RP -U100 uses Y amaha ’ s unique “Virtual 3D” tech- nology to simulate a ty pical surround sound system using only two speak ers.
3 Controls and Functions Front Panel A Input selectors & indicators These four keys, explained belo w , are used to select the input sourc e. The indicator of the selected source lights up. • PC key This key selects y our PC as the input source.
4 The 40 presets are arranged into fiv e groups from A through E, with eig ht presets in each group . E √ / ® (Down/Up) keys These keys are used t o select sound field programs, pr eset stations, and tune the AM/FM tuner . F V olume control This control adjusts the speak er and headphone volume.
5 Making Connections Connection Notes • T urn off the RP -U100 and all equip- ment to be co nnected before making any c onnections. • Refer t o the owner’ s manuals supplied with your other equipment for more information.
6 Connecting Audio Equipment The following illustration shows how t o connect a CD play er and MD or tape rec order . The CD play er is shown connected t o the RP -U100 using both analog and digital connec- tions. Ho wever , it ’ s not necessar y to mak e both connections.
7 Connecting Speakers The following illustration shows how to c onnect a pair of speakers and sub woofer . Co n- nect the left speaker t o the left speaker co nnector on the RP -U100 and the r ight speaker to the right speaker connect or , and pay car eful attention to the plus and min us polarities.
8 Connecting an FM Antenna Connect an FM antenna to the FM ANTENNA connector (FM 75 Ω UNBAL). Use the supplied indoor FM antenna only in areas with exceptionally good reception. Use the supplied F-type adapter to con- nect an outdoor FM antenna with an F-type connector.
9 About the Display This section explains what the various display indicators mean. A ) (Dolby logo) This indicator appears when the RP -U100 is decoding a V irtual Dolby Digital or V irtual Dolby Surr ound audio source. When the MO VIE, LIVE, GAME, or VDD program is selected, this indicator lights up regardless of the input source.
10 Selecting Audio Sour ces This section explains how to turn on the RP-U100 and select input sources. If any external audio equipment is con- nected to the RP-U100, turn it on first.
11 Using the T uner Locating Radio Stations Manually 1. Use the P-SET key to select Frequency Display mode. In Fr equency Display mode, the radio frequency is displa yed, as shown here. 2. Press the TUNER key repeatedly to select one of the following tuner bands: FM Auto Stereo, FM Mono, or AM.
