8 SAFETY LABELS SECTION 2: TRACTOR SET-UP Gas and Oil Fill-up The gasoline tan k is located under the fende r and has a capacity of three gallons. Unthread the fu el cap by turning it counterclockwise. Use only clean, fresh (un der 30 days old), unleaded gasoline.

10 Thro tt l e C on t rol Le ver The throttle contr ol lever is located on the left side of th e tractor’s dash panel . This lever controls the speed of the engine. When set in a gi ven position, the throttle will maintain a uniform engine speed. See Figure 2.
11 Hour Meter Located in the ce nter of the tracto r’s console, the ho ur meter operat es whenever the engine is r unning and records the actual hours of tr actor operation. See Figure 4. Figure 4 System Indicator Lights Your tractor is equipped with four indicator lights in the center of its dash panel.
12 Seat Adjustment Lever To adjust the seat forward or backward, slide the seat adjustment lever to the left and reposition the seat to the desired position. On ce a comfortable posit ion is found, release the seat adjust ment lever to lock the seat in place .

Refer to Leveling the Deck on page 16 of this manual for more detailed instructions re garding various deck adjustments.
14 • To travel FORWARD, slo wly depress the upper portion of t he drive pedal forward until the desired speed is achieved. See Figur e 6. Figure 6 • To travel in REVERSE, check that the are a behind is clear then slowly depress the lower portion of the drive pedal with the ball of yo ur foot (NOT your heel) until the desir ed speed is achieved.
15 Moving The T ractor Manually Your tractor’s transmission is equippe d with a hydrostatic relief valve fo r occasions when it is necessary to move the tractor manually. Open ing this valve permits the fluid in the t ransmission to bypass its normal route, allowing the rear tires to "fr eewheel.
16 SECTION 5: MAKING ADJUSTMENTS WARNING: Ne ver attempt to make an y adjustments while the engine is running, e xcept where specified in th e operator’ s manual . Leveling the Deck NOTE: Check the tractor’s tire p ressure before performing any de ck leveling adjustments.
17 P arking Brake Adjustment WARNING: Never attempt to a djust the brakes while the engin e is running. Always disengage PTO, stop eng ine and remove ke y to prevent uninten ded starting.
18 SECTION 6: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN TRACTOR NOTE: Refer to Maintenance Chart on page 24 f or a reference of recommend ed maintenance intervals. WARNING: Before performing any maintenance or rep airs, disengage PTO, set parking brake, st op engine and remove key to prevent unint ended starti ng.
19 Deck Spindles and Deck Idler Bracket Grease fittings can be found on the top of each deck spindle shaft as well a s on the idler bracket. See Figure 14. Lubricate wit h 251H EP grease or an equivalent No . 2 multi-purpose lithium grease. Figure 14 Front Wheels Each of the front wheel axles and rims is eq uipped with a grease fitting.
20 • Place a block o f wood between the deck housing baffle and the cutting blade to act as a stabilizer. See Figure 16. Figure 16 • Use a 1-1/8" wren ch to remove the hex flange nut that secures the blade t o the spindle assembly. See Figure 16.
21 Fuse A fuse is installed in your tractor’s wiring har ness to protect the tractor’s elec tr ical system from damage caused by excessive amperage. If the electrical system does not functio n, or your tractor’s engine will not crank, first check to be certain that the fuse ha s not blown.
22 Figure 19 • Grasp the ratc het’s handle and pivot it toward the tractor’s right side to relieve tension on the belt. • With belt tension relieved, car efully remove the belt from around thelef t-hand spindle pulley . WARNING: Avoid the possiblity of a pinching injury.
23 • Pivot the double-idler bracket forward slightly before removin g the idler extensio n spring from the stud and the double-id ler bracket itself. Do NOT discard the spri ng. • Roll the drive belt out fro m around both the v-idler pulley and the flat idler pu lley found on the double- idler bracket.
24 SECTION 8: OFF-SEASON STORAGE Clean and lubricate the tr actor as instructed in Section 7: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN TRACTOR on page 18 of this manual before sto ring for an extended period . Engine If the engine will be out of service for tw o months or more, use the followin g storage procedure: • Clean the exterior surfa ces of the engine.
