CHAPTER 2 PAPER H ANDL ING 2-3 Special Paper Before using paper wi th holes such as organizer sheets, you must fan the stack well t o avoid paper jams and mis feeds. Do not use organizer sheet s that are st uck together. The paste us ed might cause damage to the machine.

Open the m u lti-purpose sheet feed er b y gently pu llin g the lid forward towards you. ( ➀ ). 2. Load pap er into the multi-p u rpose sheet feeder with the p rinting surface face down.

USER’S GU IDE 2-10 OUTPUT TRAY AND PAPER SUPPORT WIRE The machine ejects paper with printed surfaces face down into the output tray at the front of the machine. When the output tray is closed, the ejected paper comes out sheet by sheet through the slit at the front.

CHAPTER 3 PRIN T 3-3 Switch This switch will be u sed for the following p urpose depen ding on the situation. Cancel printing If you press the switch during printing, the machine immedi ately stops printing and ejects the paper. Wake-up If the machine is in sleep mode, pressing the switch wakes it up into the ready state.
USER’S GU IDE 3-4 Test Print Mode The machine h as the following test print mod e. Follow these steps: 1. Make sure that the top cover is closed. 2. Hold down the swi tch and turn on the power switch. Keep the switch d e p ressed until th e Drum lamp comes on.

USER’S GU IDE 4-4 Error If an error ocurrs, the machine shows “E” on the display. To clear the error, press the Stop button. An error will occur when th e fo llowing happens; *When the document causes a paper jam in the document feeder whi le the machine is feeding the document.
CHAPTER 5 SCAN 5-1 CHAPTER 5 SCAN The machine provides you with a TWAIN compliant scanner driver. This allows you to use t he machine as scanner from any TW AIN compliant application s uch as Adobe Phot oshop. SCANNING FROM TWAIN COMPLIANT APPLICATIONS 1 .

CHAPTE R 6 MAI NT E NANCE 6–1 CHAPTER 6 MAINTENANCE REPLACING THE TONER CARTRIDGE The machine can print approximatel y 2,400 pages (5% coverage: A4/Letter) wit h one toner cartridge. When t he toner cartridge is running low, the Alarm and Data (Toner) lamps blink once every 5 s econds to indicate toner low.
USER’S GU IDE 6–2 ! Caution Keep the dru m unit l evel after removin g the toner cartridge, to avoid possible toner spill or sca tter. Follow these steps to replace the toner cartridge: 1. Open the top cover towards you. R emove the drum unit by holding each side of the drum and gently lifting the drum forwards towards you.

Make sure that th e toner cartridge gu ide bar is exactly align ed with the guide sl ot in the drum unit and pus hed fully home into the drum unit to ensure that the toner cartridge and the drum uni t fit together correctly.

CHAPTE R 6 MAI NT E NANCE 6–7 REPLACING THE DRUM UNIT The machine uses a drum unit to create the print images on paper. If the Drum lamp is on, it in d icates th e d rum unit is nearly at the end of its life. We recommend you prepare a new drum unit to replace the current one.

Open the document feeder. 3. Clean the flat white press ure bar and the glass s trip under the bar with a dry cloth.
USER’S GU IDE 6–16 RE-PACKING THE MACHINE ! Caution Whenever you transport t he machine, use the packing materi als which are provided with your machine. Als o, follow the steps below to re-pack the machine, or it m ay be damaged wh ich will void the mach ine warranty.

If you use the machine with t he supplied Windows driver, the st atus monitor will appear to indicate the error on your computer screen. The machine als o prints some error mes sages on paper.

USER’S GU IDE 7-4 Service Calls for the Printing Function If an unrecoverable error occurs, the machine indicates the need for a service call by lightin g all the lamps and then th e fo llo wing com.
CHAPTER 7 TROU BLESHOO TING 7-5 Service Calls for the Copy ing and Scanning Functions If an unrecoverable error occurs, the machine shows “E” and “0”, “1” or “2” on the display alt ernately. When this happens, turn off the power s witch, wait a few seconds and then turn it on again and try again.
USER’S GU IDE 7-6 PAPER JAMS Before you can clear a paper jam error, you need t o find the location of the paper jams. Locate t he position referri ng to the following figure. CHAPTER 7 TROUBLESHOOT ING 7-7 ! Caution Do not pull ja mmed pa per from the output tr a y. Be sure to open t he top cover to remove the jam, or the fus er may get dirty with toner powder and may result in toner s catter on the next printed page or pages.
USER’S GU IDE 7-8 ❏ Paper Jam near the Drum Unit or at the Paper Output Tray If a paper jam has occurred near the drum unit , open the top cover and remove the drum unit. Then, pull t h e jammed paper upwards and out of the machine. Install the drum unit and close the top cover.
CHAPTER 7 TROUBLESHOOT ING 7-9 ❏ Paper Jam in the Document Feeder If a paper jam has occurred in the document feeder, open t he document feeder cover. Pull the j ammed paper out of the document feeder towards you. After removing t he document, close the document feeder.

Check to see if the “ PAPER EMPTY ” message appears on your computer screen or t he Alarm and Paper lamps are blinking on t h e machine control panel. If so , the multi-purp ose sheet feeder may be out of paper or not properly ins talled.
CHAPTER 7 TROUBLESHOOT ING 7-13 Printing Question Recommendat ion The machine prints unexpectedly or it print s garbage. Turn the machine off and on again to reset the machine. Make sure your application s oftware is correctly set up to use this mach ine by checkin g the machine setti ngs in your applicat ion software.

The Alarm LED is blinking. If the LED is blinking, refer to the Operator Calls section o f th is manual.
