23 The Button: Mode or Flexible Recording The camcorder offers two basic modes fo r re cord in g v id eo or st ill im ag es : mode for beginne rs or if yo u just prefer not to bother with detailed camcorder settings, and flexible recording mode which lets you change the camc order's settings to your pr eference.
Preparations 24 Operating Modes The camcorder's o perating mode is determined by the po sition of the mo de dial. In this manual, indicates that a function is ava ilable in the operating mode shown and indicates that the function is not available.
25 Using the Menus Many of the ca mcor der’ s functions can be adjusted fr om the menus that open after pressing the FUNC. button ( ). T o access the menus set the camcor der to flexible rec ording mode. In mode, except for a few exceptions, most menu settings will return to their default values ( 23).

27 Setting the Date and Time Y ou will need to set the date and time of the camcor der before you can s tart using it. The [DA TE/TIME] scr een will appear automati cally when the camcor der’ s clock is not set. When the [DA TE/T IME] screen appears, the year wi ll be displayed in orange and indicated with up/down arrows.
