Document Scanner DR-6030C Easy S t art Guide This manual describes th e procedures for setti ng up the scanner for use. For details on how to use the scanner , read the after p. 1. Doing so could case the scanner to overheat , creating a risk of fire. • Never place small metal object s such as st aples, p aper clips , or jewelry on the scanner . 10 Before Using the Scanner 2. Features of the DR-6030C Document Scanner The main features of the DR-6030C document scanner are described below . Fast Document Feeding The scanner can scan a maximum of 60 documents per minute in a range of sizes from business cards to A3 si ze.
Before Using the Scanner 11 Chapter 1 Deskew The scanner straightens an image afte r detecting an imag e on a document that was loaded askew . (See “[Deskew] Check Box,” on p. 70.) Auto Color Detection The scanner detects whether the scanne d document is in color or black-and- white, and save the imag e accordingly .
12 Before Using the Scanner Remove Binder Holes Deletes black spots left when scanning documents that have had holes punched in them t o be stored in a bi nder . (See “[Border Removal] Check Box,” on p. 79.) Long Paper Comp atibility Y ou can scan documents that are a maximum of 1 18.

20 Using the Scanner 1. Document s This scanner can scan documents ranging in size from business cards and checks to A3 size documents. It can also scan business cards. The size of documents that this scanner can scan is shown below . (*1) For information about the output directi ons, see “Document Eject Tray ,” on p.
Using the Scanner 21 Chapter 2 • Scan ning documents that are written in pencil or similar material can make the rollers dirty , which can then transfer the dirt to subsequent documents. Always clean the rollers after sca nning a document written in pencil.
22 Using the Scanner 2. Prep aring the T rays Prepare the document feed tray and doc ument eject tray according to the paper size and feed/eject method. Setting Up the Do cument Feed T ray 1. Hold the middle of the document feed tray and slowly open it toward you.
Using the Scanner 23 Chapter 2 Document Eject T ray The scanner has two eject methods; documents can be ejected to the front of the scanner in a U-turn path, or to the back of the scanner in a straight path. This is done according to whether document eject tray 2 is opened or closed.
24 Using the Scanner 2. Pull the document eje ct tray extension towards yo u to open it. IMPORTANT Make sure the document eject tray extens ion is open when using the scanner . If the document eject tray extension is not opened, ejected documents ca n fall from the tray and become jammed in the scanner .
Using the Scanner 25 Chapter 2 Inst alling the Document Eject Guide When scanning a document that is partic ularly thin or particularly long, it could droop down over the edge of the document eject tray extension and become jammed in the scann er . A void this problem by attaching the docu ment eject guide.
26 Using the Scanner 4. T o remove the document eject guide, lift the document eject tray extension a little and unhook the docume nt eject guide. 5. Reverse the procedure for attaching th e document eject guide to remove it.
Using the Scanner 27 Chapter 2 3. Placing Document s There are two methods for paper s eparati on, called the page separation mode and bypass mode for feeding documents. Feeding documen ts continuously from a stack of documents placed in the feed tray is called the page separation mode.
28 Using the Scanner 2. Straighten the edges of the stack of documents to be scanned. CAUTION • Do not place the document s on top of the scanner to align them. Doing so may cause a malfunction. • Be careful when placing a document in the scanner .
Using the Scanner 29 Chapter 2 IMPORTANT There is a load limit mark ( ) on the document guides. Do not stack documents higher than this mark (approximately 100 sheets of 20 lb bond (80 g/m 2 ) paper). Doing so may cause a paper jam. 5. Adjust the document guides so they match the width of the document.
30 Using the Scanner How to Feed with the Byp ass Mode 1. Move the feed selection lever on the lower left side of the front of th e scanner down ( ). Note • Lowering the feed selection lever causes the document stoppers to go down.
Using the Scanner 31 Chapter 2 4. One sheet of the document is pushed against the document feed slot. The document is fed. IMPORTANT • When scanning documents that are fast ened together , such as invoices, set the edge that is fastened t ogether as the leading edge.
32 Using the Scanner 4. Scanning Document s When it scans with the DR-6030C, you need to install CapturePerfect 3.0, which is provided with the scanner, or ISIS/TW AIN-compatible appl ication. This section describes the scanning flow of the CapturePerfect 3.
Using the Scanner 33 Chapter 2 • Scan Job The scanning conditions an d scan mode (Scan Batch to File, Scan Batch to Print, or Scan Batch to Mail) are regist ered in advance as a job. The scan job can then be performed by selecting the registered job from the drop-down list ( ➀ ) and pressing (Scan JOB) on the toolbar ( ➁ ).
34 Using the Scanner CapturePerfect 3.0 Operation Procedure This section describes how to start up Ca pturePerfect 3.0, se lect the scanner, and the procedure up to scanni ng with Scan Batch to File. For details, see the CapturePerfect 3. 0 Operation Guide an d CapturePerfect Help.
Using the Scanner 35 Chapter 2 CapturePerfect 3.0 starts up. 2. Follow the procedure below to select the Canon DR-6030C docu ment scanner as the scanner to be used. 1. On the [Scan] menu, cl ick [Select Scanner]. 2. Select [CANON DR-60 30C] Æ click the [OK] button.
36 Using the Scanner Note If [CANON DR-6030C] is not displayed in the list of scanners, re-install the ISIS/TW A IN driver . (See “Step 3. Insta lling the Software” in the Easy Start Guide.) 3. Set the “Default Page Siz e” and click the [OK] button.

Specify the file name and the file type for saving the image data, and click [Save] to start scanning.
Using the Scanner 39 Chapter 2 8. When there are no more pages of the document to scan, scanning stops. Scanning resumes or ends according to the “Feeding Option” setting in the scanner setup. • When “Feeding Opt ion” is set to [Standard Feeding] The continue dialog box is displayed.

After installing the ISIS/TW AIN driver and CapturePerfect 3.0, you can have CapturePerfect 3.0 start automatically when you pus h the scanner start button by setting the W indows event fu nction.

Using the Scanner 47 Chapter 2 5. Using Patchcode Sheet s The DR-6030C ISIS driver and Capt urePer fect 3.0 both support th e automatic file separation function with patchcode sheets. Patchcode patterns are printed on pa tchcode sheets which are used to automatically separate files.
48 Using the Scanner About Patchcode Sheet s Patchcode sheets are data in a portable document format (PDF). There four types; [P A TCH II (A4)], [P A TCH II (L TR)], [P A TCH T (A4)], [P A TCH T (L TR)] according to the paper size and pattern. Click on the W indows start button, open [All Program s] - [Canon DR-6030C] - [P A TCH X (XX)].
Using the Scanner 49 Chapter 2 Patchcode Pattern Function There are two types of patchcodes an d their fun ction changes according to their pattern. P A TCH T (FILE A) P A TCH II (FILE B ) How to Use Patchcode Sheet s 1. Print patchcode sheets on a printer .
50 Using the Scanner IMPORTANT Note the following poin ts when copying a patchcode pattern to create a different size patchcode sheet. • When copyi ng a patchcode pattern, the copy should be the same size and density as the pattern on the original. Extremely dark or light copies may not be scanned correctly .
Using the Scanner 51 Chapter 2 6. Clearing a Paper Jam When paper jams occur during scanning, use the following procedure to clear them. CAUTION Be careful when removing jammed p aper . It is possible to cut your hand on the edge of a sheet of p aper .

When the jam occurred in the feed section When the jam occurred in the eject section IMPORTANT Be sure to pull the document out caref ully , without applying too much force. Should the documen t tear , be sure t o remove any part remain ing in the scanner .
Using the Scanner 53 Chapter 2 Note • After removing the jammed paper, check to see if the last page was scanned, and then continue scanning. • If a paper jam happens when “Rapid r ecover system” is enabled in the ISIS/ TW AIN driver settings, the image of the documen t is not saved and scanning stops.

Using the Scanner 55 Chapter 2 Skew Detection Function If long documents are skewed, then they may rub against the feed slot or the edges of the feed path and be damaged. The scanner is equipped with a skew detector function that detects when a skewed document hits the edge of the feed slot.
56 Using the Scanner Long Document Mode Settings Follow the procedure below to set the long document mode. 1. Use the following procedure to open the [CANON DR-6 030C USB Properties] (or [CANON DR-6030C SCSI Properties]). 1. Click the [Start] button, and then click [Control Panel].

Using the Scanner 61 Chapter 2 S t andby Mode Settings The scanner is designed t o save energy by going into Standby mode if it is not used for a certain period of time. This ti me period can be set to [After 10 secs] (factory set default), [Aft er 10 mins], [After 1 hour] or [After 4 hours].
62 Using the Scanner MultiS tream Function If the application that y ou are using supports the MultiStream function, then it is possible to scan a document one time and sim ultaneously output two types of images (Primary image and Secondary image). CapturePerfect 3.

70 Software Setup The Content density should be adjust ed according to docum ent content, so that only blank pages are skipp ed: increase the setting if they are not skipped, and decrease the setting if non-blank pages are skipped.
Software Setup 71 Chapter 3 Image Quality When 400 or 600 dpi resolution is selected, you can enable this and sel ect either [Spee d Priority] o r [Image Qual ity Priority Image]. [Speed Priority ] This mode gives priority to scannin g speed, and generates 400 or 600 dpi images from images scanned at 300 dpi.
72 Software Setup [Auto Color Detection Settings] Dialog Box This dialog box appears when you select [Auto Color Detection], where you can make settings for detecting whether scanne d images are color or black and white, and select the mode to us e when an image is dete cted as black and white.
Software Setup 73 Chapter 3 [Scan Area] Dialog Box In this dialog box you can define the area of the document page to scan on a selected page size, and register no n-standard document page sizes. The Scan Area dialog box is differ ent for ISIS and TW AIN drivers.

Software Setup 79 Chapter 3 [Reverse Image] Check Box (TW AIN driver only) The document is scanned with black a nd white reversed when scanning in black and white (binary) mode. [Edge Emphasis] Adjusts image contours. Move the slider toward Soft to soften image contours, or toward Sharp to sharpen image contours.
80 Software Setup [Prevent Bleed Through / Remove Background] Chec k Box Select this to Prevent Bleed Through when scanning thin document pages and those with dark content on the b ack side, or to rem ove the background fro m document images.

82 Software Setup [JPEG T ransfer] Check Box When this check box is selected, scanne d image da ta is always compressed to JPEG format within the scanne r for output to the computer . Scanned image data is output from the scanner as an uncompressed or JPEG transfer , depen ding on instructions from the ISIS/TW AIN driver or application program.
Software Setup 83 Chapter 3 Feeding Option Here you can select the feeding method for document scanning. [St andard Feeding] This feeding method is good for scanning small batches of docum ents that are loaded one batch at a time: scanning st ops when the loaded documents have been scanned.
84 Software Setup With the [Automat ic Feeding] or [Panel Feeding] Feeding Opt ion [Auto] Each batch of documents is saved with different file names. [Patchcode] Batches are separated whenever a patchcode sheet is detected between documents. (See “Using Pa tchcode Sheets,” on p.

Software Setup 93 Chapter 3 Scanning Non-S t andard-Size Document s • T o scan non-st andard-size document s If non-standard-size documents are scanne d with a standard size selected for the Page Size setting on the [Basic] tab sheet, black regions may appear around the scanned document image.
94 Software Setup W ith the TW AIN driver , load a document in the scanner and click the [Preview] button to scan one p age. The scanned image is displayed in the Area window so that you can adju st the scan area while vi ewing the preview image. (See “Preview Button (TW AIN driver only),” on p.
Software Setup 95 Chapter 3 The [Setting] button allows setting a del ay time from when a document is loaded until scanning starts. Set a delay time when you need to adju st the document guides or align the pages after loading a document with autom atic feeding.
96 Software Setup Image Adjustment s for Scanning • T o enhance text in document s with a background (when scanning in black and white (binary ) mode.) Select [Advanced T ext Enhancement] as the Mode on the [Basic] tab sheet. The background behind the text is removed or processed so that the text is emphasized for better legibility .

102 Appendices 1. Regular Maintenance Clean the scanner on a regular bas is as described below to main tain peak scanning quality . CAUTION • When cleaning the scanner or inside of the scanner , turn OFF the power switch and unplug the Power Cord from the outlet.
