Y ou can e asily op erate the touch scr een using your finger or the supplied stylus pen.

32 Prepa rati ons Using the Menus Many of the camcor der’ s functions can be adjuste d fro m the FUNC. panel and the setup menus. In mode, however , most menus can- not be acces sed and, except in a few cases, m ost menu settings w ill return to their default values.

Smart AUTO Mode 47 Zoomin g The camcorder offers three types of zoom - op tical, advanced and dig- ital. For optica l zoom, the camcorder uses t he optic al magnifica tion ratio of the lens.

56 Video Deleting Scenes Y ou can delete those scenes tha t yo u are not interested in keeping. Deleting scen es allows you also to fr ee up space on the memor y . See also Deleting Scenes and Stories from the Gallery ( 0 90). 1 In the date index screen, open the screen that contains the scenes you want to delete.

58 Video Advanced Functions Shooting Video in Flexible Recording Mode When the camcor der is in (fle xib le reco rding) mode, you ca n enjoy full access to the menus and manually adjust th e exposur e, focus, whi te balanc e and many more o f the camcorder's s ettings to your pr eference.

64 Video Image Stabil ization The image stabili zer red uces camcor der blur (blur due to the cam- cord er moving) so you can get nice, stable shots . Select the image sta - bilization mode according to the shooting conditions. In mode, this function is set to [ Q Stand ard] and cannot be changed.
Video 65 Pre-Rec ording The camcord er will start r ecording 3 seconds befor e you pr ess g , ensu rin g yo u do no t miss importa nt sh oot ing oppo rtuni - ties. Thi s is especially usef ul when it is diff icult to pred ict when to start reco rd ing .
66 Video Face Detection The camcor der automati cally detects people’ s faces and uses this information to select the optimal settings for beautiful videos and pho- tos. POINTS TO CH ECK • Sel ect a recording program oth er th an [ q Night Scene], [ p Low Light] or [ M Firewor ks].
Video 67 • Face detecti on cannot be used when the shut ter speed us ed is slower than 1/30 (1/24 if th e frame rate is set to [ E PF24]) or when t he digi- tal zoom is a ctivated at mor e than 80x zoom.
68 Video Video S naps hot Recor d a series of short scenes or captur e short scenes from a movie you have previously recorded. Play your video snapshot scen es set to your favorite mus ic ( 0 82) to cr eate your own fun music video. Y ou will be surprised how by changing the b ackground music, you can give your scenes an entire ly new feel.

Manual Exposure Adjustment At times, bac klit subjec ts may appear too dark (under exposed) or sub- jects under ve ry strong lights m ay appear too bright or glaring (overex- posed).

90 Video Galler y and Scene O perations Managing Stories The gallery initi ally contains two group s, [Unsorted] for your r egular scenes and [ V ideo Snapshot ] for your vid eo snapsho t scenes. In add i- tion, you can create new gr oups, or “sto ries”, which contain scenes of your choosing, arranged in an order to your liking.
Video 91 To delete indivi dual scenes 1 From the gallery s creen, select the story that contains the scene to delete. 2 Delete the s cene. • The scen e is delete d and the gall ery scr een appears. To de lete scen es by rating Y ou can delete all the scenes in a story with a p articular rating.

Drag yo ur finge r right /left to br ing the desired sto ry to the fron t. 2 Delete the story . * T ouch [Stop] to interrupt the operation while it is in progr e ss.
