When standby is initiated, your w ork is sav ed in random access memory (RAM), the screen is cleared, and the po wer/standby lights blink.

For information about changing the function of some of the po wer features on your notebook, refer to the “Power Preferences” section later in this chapter .
3–8 Hard war e and S oftwar e Guide Po w e r Initia ting or Resuming from Standb y Ta s k Procedure Result Initiate standby . With the notebook on, use any of the fo llowing procedures: ■ Press the fn+f5 hotke y . ■ Close the notebook. ✎ When the notebook is closed, the display presses the display switch, which then initiates standby.

Charging may be delayed if a battery pack is ne w , has been unused for 2 weeks or more, or is much warmer or cooler than room temperature.

Plug one end of the S-V ideo cab le into the notebook S-V ideo–out jack, illustrated belo w .

Y ou can use these hotk eys to control the play of an audio CD or a D VD that is inserted in the optical dri ve.
4–8 Hard war e and S oftwar e Guide Multimedia Protecting Play bac k T o prev ent the loss of playback or playback quality: ■ Sav e your work and close all open applications before playing a CD or a D VD. ■ Dock or undock the notebook from an optional docking de vice befor e or after playing a disc, not while playing a disc.
Multimedia Hard w ar e and So ftwar e Guide 4–9 Multimedi a Soft ware The multimedia software included with your notebook is determined by your re gion and notebook model. The follo wing list describes the capabilities of some of the multimedia software that may be included with your notebook.
4– 10 Ha rdwa re a nd Sof t ware Gu id e Multimedia ■ InterV ideo W inD VD Creator Plus—Pro vides the ability to create, edit, and burn mo vies to a D VD or video CD. This software is located on the InterV ideo W inD VD Cr eator CD, included with select notebooks.

4– 12 Ha rdwa re a nd Sof t ware Gu id e Multimedia Enabl ing A uto P la y AutoPlay is an option in W indo ws that turns the Autorun feature on or of f. Autorun starts a program or plays a title on a disc as soon the disc is inserted into the dri ve and the dri v e door is closed.
