The follo wing diagram shows the main status lights on the front of the notebook.

1–10 Startup Gui de Getting Started with Y our Notebook Step 3: Connec t a Phone Line 1. Make sure the telephone line is an analog line, sometimes called a data line. (Do not use a digital line.) 2. Connect the telephone cord (RJ-11) into a telephone jack.

The first time you turn on your notebook, the W indo ws Setup program runs automatically and includes opportunities to customize your setup.

T o use a hot ke y , press and hold Fn, press the appropriate second key , then release both ke ys.

Plug a standard 4-pin S-V ideo cable to the S-V ideo out jack on your notebook (yello w connector on the back panel).

From the W indows taskbar The W indo ws taskbar can display a power icon that pro vides detailed battery status information (see W indo ws Help for details).

4–10 Startup Gui de T roubleshooting Safeguarding Y our Da ta Software or de vices added to the notebook can cause your system to become unstable. T o safeguard your documents, store personal files in the My Documents folder and periodically create a backup copy of My Documents.
T roubleshooting Startup Gui de 4–11 Operatin g S ystem (OS) CD Repair T o repair the operating system without deleting your personal data, use the standard Microsoft OS CD that was shipped with the notebook.
4–12 Startup Gui de T roubleshooting OS CD Reinstall If other recov ery efforts do not successfully repair the notebook, you can reinstall the operating system. Å W ARNIN G: P ersonal data and s oftware y ou have inst alled on the notebook w ill be lost during the O S CD re install.
