5 Inserting the Batteries Open the battery cover . y Slide the battery cover in the direction indicat ed by t he arrow . Insert the batteries. y Insert two AA-size batteries with the positive (+) and negative (-) poles matching the directions indicated inside the battery room.
6 Inserting the Memory Card You can use SD Card with this digital ca mer a. The memory card slot is loc ated beneath the battery cover, adjacent to the battery co m partment. Open the battery cover . y Slide the battery cover in the direction indicat ed by t he arrow .
7 Setting the Display Language/ Date & T ime When using the camera for the first time af ter purchasing, be sur e to choose a la n guage and set the date & time before using the cam er a. Setting Display Language T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Setup Menu ( p age 17).
8 Apply the setting. y After adjusting the settings, pre ss the SET or the MENU button to apply the setting. y If the batteries are removed for longer than 4 8 h ours, the date and time will ne ed to be re-set.

12 Basic Operation T urning Power On and Off Press the POWER button ( n ) to turn on the camera in the REC mode. y The power turns on, the lens ex tends and the LED light s in green. Press the PLA YBACK button ( o ) to turn on the camera in the PLA YBACK mode.

17 Setup menu T urn the power on, and set the camera to the REC or PLA YBACK mode ( page 13). Press the MENU button ( n ) to open the REC or PLA YBACK menu. y The menu displays depends on whether you are in the RE C mode or the PLA Y - BACK mode. Open the Setup menu.

20 Basic Recording Recording Still Images T urn the power on, and set the camera to the REC mode ( pa ge 1 3) . Compose the subject on the monitor . y Aim the focus area ( n ) to the subject that you want to t ake. Half press the shutter button to focus the image.
21 Using the Q mode The Q mode provides a simplif ied camera interface. Larger icons and fe wer controls make it easier to t ake pictures a nytime, especially for the begin ners and elder users.
22 Setting Image Size and Quality Y ou can select lower image r eso lution and quality to decrease the ima ge siz e to capture more images. 23 Using the Zoom Function Your camera has a combination o f optical and digital zoom functio ns that allows you to zoom in on far away subjects o r zoom out for a wide angle shot. The optical zoom is achieved by m echanically adjusting the len s of the camera.
24 Using the Flash The flash is not only for taking p ictures when there is insufficient light, but also whe n the subject is in shade or in backl ight conditions. Press the flas h button to cycle your camera through the various flash mod es. The flas h will not activate when c ontinuo us shooting or movie recording.
25 Using the Macro Your camera is equipped with a macro fun ction that allows you to focus on very clos e subjects. In macro mode you can focus on subjects 1 5 c m from the lens when in the maximum wide angle s etting a nd 40 cm in the maximum tele photo setting.
26 Using the Self-timer & Burst Use the self-timer to set a delay from the time t he shutter button is pressed to the time the image is shot. Use the burst to record cont inuous still images shooting. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the REC mode ( p age 13).
27 Using the Aperture Priority In this mode, you can set an apert ure value to match the brightne ss. A higher aperture value brings the b ackg round o ut of focus. Se lecting a lo wer ape rture v alu e allows you to soft the bac kground. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Aperture Priority ( pa ge 1 4) .
28 Using the Manual Exposure Y ou can manually s et the shutter speed and ap erture to achieve a p articular ef fect. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Manual Exposure ( pa ge 1 4) . 2 Use the SET button to switch between aperture value and shutter speed control.
29 Recording Movie Clip s T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Movie mode ( pa ge 1 3) . Compose the subject on the monitor . y Aim the focus area ( q ) to the subject that you want to t ake. y The LCD monitor displays the available record ing time ( p ).
30 Recording Audio Clip s T urn the power on, and set the camera to the V oice REC mode ( pa ge 1 3) . Press the shutter button ( n ) to st art recording. y The voices are recorde d from the microphone ( o ) of the camera. Be careful to avoid touching the microphone while recording.

32 Other Recording Functions Setting the Metering There are 3 different light metering options av ailable on your camera. Option Desc ription Light is measured from the entir e shooting screen, but gives more import ance to the values near the center .
33 Setting the ISO With the initial settings, the ISO sensitivit y is automatically set according to the brightness of the subject. Option Description Auto Sets the ISO sensitiv it y automatically . ISO 50 Sets the sensitiv ity to ISO 50 equivalent. ISO 100 Sets the sensitivity to ISO 100 equiv alent.
34 Setting the Highlight Make the subject st and out from it s surroundings. The subject will be in focus in three differ ent ranges: / / y The photo frame and face tracking cann ot be u sed as using the highlight. Setting the Sharpness Y ou can select whether you want the image to have sharp or soft outlines.

37 Magnifying & T rimming Still Images T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( p age 13). Select an image. y Press or ( p ) to select the image that you want to magnify or trimming. y Only still images can be magnified and trimmed.

39 Deleting Files Deleting a Single File T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( pa ge 1 3) . Open the menu. y Press the MENU button ( n ), then use the four-way control ( o ) to select Delete ( ) and press the SET button ( o ).

45 Copying the Files Y ou may copy the dat a from the camera ’s inter nal memory to the memory car d for convenience. Be sure you have inserted a memory card into your digit al camera. Set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode. ( pa ge 1 3 ). Open the menu.
46 Setting the DPOF The Digital Print Ord er Format (DPOF) setting allows y ou to select images on the memory card for printing and spec ify the num ber of print copies in advance using the camera. Th is is extremely convenient for sen ding the images to a photo dev eloping service or for printing on a dir ect print function comp atible printer .
47 Choosing a St art-up Image T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( pa g e 1 3 ). Open the menu. y Press the MENU button , then use the four-way control to select S t art-up Image ( ) and press the SET button. 48 Making Connections Connecting the Camera to a TV Y ou can display recor ded images on a television with a su pplied A V cable. Set the TV out to match the TV system that y ou are using ( pa g e 19 ) . T urn off the camera and the TV . Use the supplied A V cable to connect the camera to the TV set.
49 Connecting the Camera to a PC There are two ways to download files from the came ra ’s interna l mem ory or m emory card to a computer: y Inserting the memory card into a card reader y Connecting.
50 Appendix Folder & File Name Your digital camera automatically c reates a directory of folders in the intern al memory o r memory card that it uses to organiz e still images, movie clips and othe r information.
51 T roubleshooting Problem Cause Solution Battery is inserted in the wrong direction. Reload battery in the correct direction. Batteries are dead. Replace or recharge batteries. Power does not turn on. The battery compartment door is open. Make sure the battery compartment door is securely closed.
