Your new tractor has been assembled at the factory with exception of those parts left unassembled for shipping purposes. To ensure safe and proper operation of your tractor all parts and hardware you assemble must be tightened securely. Use the correct tools as necessary to insure proper tightness.
HOW TO SET UP YOUR TRACTOR CONNECT BATTERY _kCAUTION: Do not short battery termi- nals by allowing a wrench or any other object to contact both terminals at the same time. Before connecting battery, re- move metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc.
CHECK TIRE PRESSURE The tires on your tractor were overinflated at the factory for shipping purposes. Correct tire pressure is important for best cutting performance. • Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown in "PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS" on page 5 of this manual.
ASSEMBLE GAUGE WHEELS TO MOWER DECK The gauge wheels are designed to keep the mower deck in proper position when operating mower. Be sure they are proper- ly adjusted to ensure optimum mower per- formance. - Assemble gauge wheels with tractor on a fiat level surface.

TRACTOR Always observe safety rules when per- forming any maintenance° BRAKE OPERATION If tractor requires more than six (6) feet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear, then brake must be adjusted. (See '%0 ADJUST BRAKE" in the Service and Adjustments section of this manual).
o Coat terminals with grease or petroleum jelly. • Reinstall battery (See "CONNECT BAT- TERY" in the Assembly section of this manual). V-BELTS Check V-belts for deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if neoessary_ The belts are not adjustable.
TO SERVICE CARTRIDGE • Replace a dirty, bent, or damaged car- tridge. NOTE: Do not wash the paper cartridge or use pressurized air, as this will damage the cartridge. ° Reinstall the pre-cleaner (cleaned and oiled) over the paper cartridge. ° Reassemble air cleaner, wing nut, cover and tighten knob securely.
_CAUTION: Before performing any service or adjustments: - Depress clutch/brake pedal fully and set parking brake. - Place gearshift lever in neutral (N) position. , Place attachment clutch in "DISENGAGED" position. o Turn ignition key "OFF" and remove key, ° Make sure the blades and all moving parts have completely stopped.
TO LEVEL MOWER HOUSING Adjust the mower while tractor is parked on level ground or driveway° Make sure tires are properly inflated (See "PROD- UCT SPECIFICATIONS"). If tires are over or underinflated, you will not properly adjust your mower.
BELT INSTALLATION - o Install new belt in reverse order of removal° o Make sure belt is in all pulley grooves idler Pulley and inside all belt guides.
TO REMOVE WHEEL FOR-REPAIRS • Block up axle securely. • Remove axle cover, retaining ring and washers to allow wheel removal (rear wheel contains a square key - Do not lose). ° Repair tire and reassemble. , On rear wheels only: align grooves in rear wheel hub and axleo Insert square key.
