Step 1. Remove the Carrie r Shields 1. Re move the f our scre ws securin g the Carrier top and bot tom shi eld. 2. Re move the scr ew securin g the PC boar d to the bot tom shield. 3. Set the screws and s hield s aside f or later re-asse mbly (St ep 6).
Step 2. Determine M-Module Layout 1. Identi fy the pos itions yo ur M-Modules wi ll occupy in the E2251 A Carrier. The Carrier can hold u p to six M-Module s only if neither of the modul es in the two inter ior slots ( M4 & M5) require external cabling .
Step 3. Set the Logica l Ad dress for each M-Modu le Each VXI modul e or M-Mo dule in a VXI system must hav e a unique l ogical address . The logica l address is use d by the VXI r esource mana ger to id entify instru ments. When the logi cal addr ess of a module is set to a dire ct multiple of 8 (such a s 8, 16, 24, .
Setti ng the Addr esse s As shown below, t he E22 51A has six logical ad dress sw it ch ba nks, one for each M-Module slot . You must se t the logica l addres s switches for each M-Module inst alled in t he E2251A Carrier. A logical address switch bank contains eight in dividual switches.
Step 4. Install M-Modul es onto the Carrier 1. For inte rnally- mounted M-Mod ules (slo ts M4 and M5 ) see Step 5, next page . 2. Instal l RFI Dress Pane l (p.n. E2273-04301) on each of the front mount ed M-Modul es. Dress pa nels act like a g asket and minimize RFI.
Step 5. Connect Field Wiring to Slot M4 & M5 M-Modules If you i nstalle d M-Modules on eit her or bot h of the inte rior sl ots, the f ollowing inst ruction s descri be how to secure the fiel d wiring. I f you did no t install an M-Module in slots M4 or M5, skip this page an d go to Step 6.
Step 6. Reattach the Ca rrier Sh ields 1. Careful ly pl ace t he pl ace t he PC bo ar d on t he bot tom Car rier shie ld. Ali gn the mou nting holes and s ecu re with the mounting sc rew. 2. For modules mounted in the inter ior slot s (M4 & M5), make c ertain t heir field wiring is not pinch ed.
