Because print server s upports IPX/SPX, NetBEUI, TCP/IP and AppleTalk network prot ocols, any ne tworked co mputer c an direc tly prin t to the p rint server from any of it s installed protocol.
In the client inst allation procedure , after PTPP (Peer-to-Peer Pri nting Driver) is installe d into Windows, the system will automatically (manual configuration is also allowed) searc h all the print servers on the network, a nd then add their p rinting por ts into Windows’ printing port (see below ).
UNIX (include HP/UX, SCO Unix, SunO S, Solaris, Unixware DECUnix, IBM AIX and ot hers) and Linux use the system-standar d LPR to print through print serv er. MAC OS MAC OS can use the syst em-standard AppleTalk ne twork to print through print serv er.
1.4 Network Printing Environment Common network envir onmen t are classified as following : Windows Peer-to-Peer Network The client’s PTPP driver will use TCP/ IP protocol to pr int throug h print server. Windows NT/2000/ 2003 Network Network printing function will be come ava ilable afte r PTPP drive r is installed into Windows NT /2000/2003.
