5 II . Installation The EW -7438RPn Mini has th ree different operati ng modes which you can choose depending on you r network requirements . Each mode is d escribed below: Wi -Fi Extender The device connects wirelessly to your existing network and repeats the wireless signal.
6 2. Th e green powe r LED will fl ash while the system is b ooting up. The device is ready when the green power LED displays on . 3. Use a Wi-Fi device (e.g. computer, tabl et, smartphone) to search for a Wi -Fi networ k with the SSID Edimax EXT.Setup ** and conne ct to it.

O pen a web brows er and if you do no t automatically arrive at th e “Get Started” screen shown below , enter the URL htt p://edimaxext .setup and click “Get Started” to begin t he setup process. If you cannot access http://edimaxext.setup , please make sure your computer is set to use a dynamic IP address.
8 II - 1. Wi -Fi Extender Mode 1. Pl ease read the on screen in structions about selecting a good locat ion for your wireless extender and t hen click “NEXT” to c ontinue. You can check your signal strength on t he next page. 2. Select you r Wi-Fi networ k from the li st.

11 5. When the connect ion test is complet e, click “Apply” to restart the extender. 6. Pl ease wait a moment until the extender is ready. 7. A final congratulations scr een will indicate tha t setup is complete.
12 Android: iOS: 8. Pl ease close the br owser window. Y ou can now connect to the exte nder ’s new SSID on a wir eless device within range such as a co mputer, smartphone or tabl et. The password for your Wi- Fi extender’s SSID is the same as for your router’s SSID.
13 II -2. Wi -Fi Adapter/Bri dge Mode 1. Select your Wi-Fi networ k from the li st and ent er the security key/password. If the Wi-Fi network you wish to connect to does not appear, try clicking “Refresh”. Do not check “C on nect to a hidden network” unless you wish to co nnect to a hidden SSID instead.
14 3. Please wait whil e the EW -7438RPn Mini tests t he connection. If your Wi-Fi extender fails to connect (below) to your existing router/access point, c lick the “ BACK ” button and ensure you entered the correct Wi -Fi network password.
15 4. When the connect ion test is complet e, click “Apply” to restart the extender. 5. Please wait a moment unt il the EW -7438RPn Mini is ready..
16 6. A final congratulations screen wil l indicate tha t setup is complete. Please close the browser window. 7. The EW -7438RPn Mini is working and ready for us e as a wi reless bridge . Use an Ethernet cabl e to connect t he EW -7438RPn Mini to th e Ethernet port on your netw ork device.
17 II - 3. Wi -Fi Access Point Mode 1. Connect the LAN port of y our EW -7438RPn Mini to th e LAN port of you r existing router using an Ethernet cab le, and then click “ Next”. 2. Click “Next” to cont inue. 3. Select “Obtain an IP a ddress automati cally” or “Use th e following I P address” for your EW -7438RPn Mini .
18 4. Enter a name and password for your wirele ss network, then click “Next” to continue. You can also enable an additional guest Wi-Fi network. A guest Wi -Fi network is another SSID with a different name and password. Select “Enable” and enter a guest network name and password if you wish.
19 5. A summary of your configu ration will be displayed, as shown below. Check that all of t he details are correct and t hen click “ Apply ” to restart the EW -7438RPn Mini. 6. Please wait a moment until the EW - 7438RPn Mini is ready. 7. A final congratulations screen will indi cate that setup is co mplete.
20 II -4. WPS Setup The WPS button is a qu ick and easy method to establish a secu re connection between your EW - 7438RPn Mini and wireless router/access p oint .
21 2. Within two min utes , press the WPS but ton on the EW - 7438RPn Mini for 2 – 5 seconds to activat e WPS. The g reen WPS LED wil l flash to indicat e that WPS is active. 3. The devices will es tablish a connection. Th e green WPS LED on the EW -7438RPn Mini will displ ay on for 5 minutes to indicat e a successful connection.
22 II -5. Reset to Factory D efault Settings If you experience problems wit h your extender o r if you want to change t he extender to a diffe rent operating mode, you can reset the device bac k to its factory settings. This resets all settings back to d efault.
23 III . Browser Based Configuration Interface After you have setup the EW -7438RP n Mini as detail ed in II. Installation or the included Q uick Installation G uide , you can use th e browser based configuration int erface to configure advanced sett ings.

25 III-2. Save Settings 1. After you make any changes to the EW -7438RPn Mini ’s sett ings, please click “APPLY”. 2. Then, select “CONTINUE” to save c hanges but not apply them ye t, or select “APPLY” to r estart the EW - 7438RPn Mini and bring th e changes into effect.

30 IV -3 . WPS Settings Wi -Fi Protected Setup is a simple way to est ablish connections betw een WPS compatible devices. When WPS is activated in the co rrect manner and at the c orrect time for two compatible devices, they will autom atically connect.
31 IV -4. Advanced Settin g In “ Advanced S etting ” you can adjust the powe r output of the EW -7438RP n Mini . The submenu also al lows you to configure security, time settings and schedul ing settings as well as various administra tive and management funct ions.
32 IV -4-1. WLAN 2.4GHz Sec urity Broadcast SSID Enable or disable S SID broadcast. Wh en enabled, the SSID wi ll be visible to clients as an available Wi -Fi network. When di sabled, the SSID will not be visi ble as an availabl e Wi -Fi network to clients – clients mu st manually enter the SSID in order to connect.
33 Mini. Guest Network You can also enabl e an additional guest Wi-Fi network. A guest Wi -Fi network is a nother SSID with a diff erent name and pass word. Select enable or disab le. Guest Network Name Enter a name (SSID) for your guest Wi -Fi network.
34 IV -4-2. Time Settings Set Time Zone Select the time zone of you r country or region. Time Server Address The extender supp orts NTP (Network Ti me Protocol), select a ti me server from the drop down menu.
35 IV -4-3. Scheduling Setting Add Click to add a new schedule in a ne w window (see below). Edit Edit an existing schedule in a new window. Delete Delete the specified schedul e.

Configuration Too ls The “Configurati on Tools” menu all ows you to backup the EW - 7438RPn Mi ni ’s settings, restore the setting s to a previous version or restore the EW -7438RPn Mini back to its fa ctory default state. You can a lso upgrade th e firmware, reboot the device and export the sys tem log.
39 Upgrade Firmwar e You can upgrade the syste m firmware to a mo re recent version. You can download the latest f irmware from the Edimax website . After the upg rade, the system will restart. Do not unplug or disconnect the device during a firmware upgrade, as this could damage the device.
40 Reboot In the event that the route r malfunctions or is not r esponding , then it is recommended that you restart t he device. Rebooting the EW-7438RPn Mini will not affect the current configuration/settings of the device. Apply Click “Apply” to reboot th e device.
41 System Log You can export the system log to a se parate file if you requi re. Export system log Click to open a new wind ow and sel ect a location to save th e log file.

59 Passphrase Key Displays the wireless secu rity authenticat ion key. Configuration Mode The configuration mode of the device’s WPS setting is displ ayed here. “Registrar” means the device acts as an access point for a wireless client to connect t o and the wireless client(s) will follow the device’s wireless s ettings.
60 VI -5. Wireless Advanced Using the “ Advanc ed Setting ” menu, you can configu re security, MAC filtering and various ot her sett i ngs. The settings on the “ Advan ced Setting ” page shown below are for expe rienced users only. Please do not change any of the val ues on this page unless you ar e already familiar with t hese functions.
61 Data Rate Set the wireless da ta transfer rate. T he default is set to aut o. N Data Rate Set the data rate of 802.11n. Th e default is set to auto. Channel Width Select wireless channel width (bandwidt h used by wireless sign als from th e dev ice) – the recommended value is Auto 20/40MHz.
62 VI -5-1. Security The access point p rovides a variety of wireless se curity options (wireless d ata encryption). When data is encrypted, information trans mitted wirele ssly cannot be read by anyone who do es not know the en cryption key. Th e “ Security ” screen displays security s ettings for your EW -7438RPn Mini.
63 VI -5-1-1. Disable Encryption is disab led and no passwo rd/key is required to connect to the EW -7438RPn Mini. Disabling wireless encryption is not recommended. When disabled, anybody within range can connect to your device’s SSID. Enable 802.1x Authentication Check the box to e nable the 802.

66 VI -5-2. MAC Filte ring The MAC filtering feature allows you to define a list of wi reless devices permitted to connect to t his access poin t , identifi ed by their unique MAC address. When this fea ture is enabled, d evices which a re not on the li st of permitted MAC ad dresses cannot co nnect to the ac cess point.

77 VII. Ed iRange App The EdiRange app is for use with range extender mode only. The EdiRange app is a free smartphone app from which you can manage the extender’s functions an d check your local Wi - Fi environment. Please ensure that your smartphone/tablet is connected to your extend er’s Wi -Fi (SSID).
78 3. Enter the userna me and passwo rd (defaul t username: admin, defa ult password: 1234 ). The admin password is the same password used for the browser based configuration interface. It is recommended that you change the password from the default “1234”.

Parental Control The parental contr ol function is a guest Wi -Fi network (SSID) which can be used for children, and swi tched on or off re motely using t he EdiRange app independent from your extender’s pr imary Wi - Fi netwo rk. Select “Second Wi - Fi Network” an d then enter a name and passwo rd for the network.

111 VI II-1- 3. How to Find Your Network Secu rity Key To find your netw ork security key, plea se follow the ins tructions approp riate for your operating system. If you are using Windows XP or earlier, please contact your ISP or router manufacturer to find your network security key.
