Safety • Inspect the area where the equipment is to be used and remov e all rocks , to ys , stic ks , wires , bones , and other foreign objects whic h can be thrown b y the machine and ma y cause personal injur y to the operator or bystanders . DANGER In cer tain conditions gasoline is extremely ammable and v apors are explosi ve.
Safety CAUTION Fuel tank v ent is located inside the roll bar tube. R emoving or modifying the roll bar could result in fuel leakage and violate emissions regulations. • Do Not remov e roll bar . • Do Not weld, drill, or modify roll bar in any w ay .
Safety • Do Not operate the mow er under the inuence of alcohol or drugs . • Use extreme care when loading or unloading the machine into a trailer or tr uck. • Use care when approaching blind cor ners , shr ubs , trees , or other objects that ma y obscure vision.
Safety W ARNING There is no rollov er protection when the roll bar is down. Wheels dropping ov er edges, ditches, steep banks, or w ater can cause rollovers, which may result in serious injur y , death or drowning . • Keep the roll bar in the raised and locked position and use seat belt.
Safety CAUTION If the ignition is in the “ON” position there is potential for sparks and engagement of components. Sparks could cause an explosion or moving par ts could accidentally engage causing personal injur y . Be sure ignition s witch is in the “OFF” position before charging the batter y .
Safety Safety and Instructional Decals • Keep all safety signs legible. R emo v e all grease, dirt and debris from safety signs and instr uctional labels . • R eplace all w orn, damaged, or missing safety signs . • When replacement components are installed, be sure that cur rent safety signs are afx ed to the replaced components .

Operation Operation Note: Deter mine the left and right sides of the machine from the normal operating position. Controls Motion Control Levers The motion control lev ers located on each side of the console control the forward and rev erse motion of the mac hine.
Operation Push the lev er forward and down to disengag e the brake . The unit m ust be tied down and brake engag ed when transporting . Ignition Switch Located on right console (see Figure 6). The ignition switc h is used to star t and stop the engine.
Operation Drive Wheel Release V alves W ARNING Hands may become entang led in the rotating driv e components below the engine deck, which could result in serious injur y or death. Stop engine, remo ve k ey , allow all the mo ving par ts to stop befor e accessing the dri ve wheel release v alv es.
Operation Figure 10 1. Latching position 3. Non-latching position 2. T ransport lock control Electronic Control Unit Malfunction Indicator Kohler EFI Units Only: The electronic control unit (ECU) continuously monitors operation of the EFI system.
Operation pulled rearw ard to get both knobs fully engag ed (see Figure 12). Figure 12 1. Engaged 2. Partially engaged — Do Not operate with ROPS in this condition. Important: Alw ays use the seat belt with the roll bar in the operate (raised) position.
Operation 2. Mov e the motion control lev ers out to the neutral lock position. 3. Engag e the parking brak e. 4. Place the throttle midw ay between the “SLO W” and “F AST” positions .
Operation Figure 14 T o turn left or right, pull the motion control lev er back to ward neutral in the desired turn direction. The machine will mo ve faster the far ther the motion control levers are mo ved from the neutral position. 4. T o stop , position both motion control lev ers in the neutral operate position.
Operation 5. Insert the height adjustment pin into the hole cor responding to the desired cutting height. See the decal on the side of the deck lift plate for cut heights . 6. Push the deck lift pedal, release the transport lock and allow the dec k to low er to the cutting height.
Operation W ARNING Loading a unit on a trailer or tr uck increases the possibility of backw ard tip-ov er . Backw ard tip-ov er could cause serious injur y or death. • Use extreme caution when operating a unit on a ramp. • Use only a single, full width ramp; Do Not use individual ramps for each side of the unit.
Maintenance Maintenance Note: Deter mine the left and right sides of the mac hine from the nor mal operating position. W ARNING While maintenance or adjustments are being made, someone could star t the engine. Accidental star ting of the engine could seriously injure y ou or other bystander s.
Maintenance Maintenance Ser vice Inter v al Maintenance Procedure Every 500 hours • R eplace the secondary air cleaner element (May need more often under severe conditions . See the Engine Owner's Man ual for additional infor mation.) • Change the h ydraulic lter and uid.

Maintenance 2. Slide the cov er plate backward or forw ard to adjust the tra vel of the lev er and tighten the screws . 3. Driv e the mac hine and c heck the full forward tracking . 4. R epeat steps 1 through 3 until desired trac king is obtained. Figure 40 RH Motion Control Shown 1.
Maintenance Cleaning Clean Engine and Exhaust System Area Service Interval: Before each use or daily (May be required more often in dry or dirty conditions.) CAUTION Excessi v e de bris around engine cooling air intake and exhaust system area can cause engine, exhaust area, and h ydraulic system to o verheat which can create a re hazard.
Maintenance W aste Disposal Motor Oil Disposal Engine oil and hy draulic oil are both pollutants to the environment. Dispose of used oil at a certied recycling center or according to y our state and local regulations . Battery Disposal DANGER Batter y electrolyte contains sulfuric acid, which is poisonous and can cause sev ere bur ns.
T roubleshooting T roubleshooting Important: It is essential that all operator safety mechanisms be connected and in proper operating condition prior to mower use. When a problem occurs , do not ov erlook the simple causes . F or example: star ting problems could be caused by an empty fuel tank.
T roubleshooting Problem Possible Cause Cor rectiv e Action 1. Engine load is ex cessiv e 1. Reduce the ground speed. 2. Air cleaner is dirty . 2. Clean or replace the air cleaner element. 3. Oil lev el in the crankcase is low . 3. Add oil to the crankcase .
T roubleshooting Problem Possible Cause Cor rectiv e Action 1. Fuse is blown. 1. Replace fuse . Check coil resistance, batter y charge, c harging system, and wiring connections and replace if necessar y .
