2 Introduction W elcome to W ashSmar t ™ Thank you f or buying a Fisher & P aykel W ashSmart™ clothes washer . W e are proud of this washer and trust it will serve you well for man y years. At F isher & Pa ykel we aim to provide inno vative products that are simple t o use, ergonomic and kind to the environment.
3 Installation instructions Unpacking T o ensure the best per formance fr om your new washer please follow the instructions below . Removing the packaging 1 Remove the outer packaging. 2 Tilt the machine backwards and walk it off the bottom packer one foot at a time (ensure lid is still taped do wn).
4 Installation instructions Hot ‘N’ Safe V alv es available are: RMC T V A 50HF RMC T V A 75HFS Adjustable between 35°C – 55°C RMC T V A 50HP F or instantaneous gas hot water supply W ater supply Y our cold water should not exc eed 35°C and your hot water should not ex ceed 65°C.
5 Installation instructions Lev elling instructions It is IMPORT ANT to level the machine t o ensure good spin per f ormance and effective detergent and fabric softener dispensing. A spirit level is provided with y our machine. Use this to level your machine , always placing it on a clean, flat surface.
6 Completing y our installation T urn on the water and check all hose connections for leaks. Make sure ther e are no kinks in the hoses. Check the hose connections for leaks again after 24 hours. Unc oil power c ord, remov e and discard the plastic pin cov er , and plug into wall socket.
7 Before y ou do y our rst wash Y ou owe it to yourself and y our washer to have your machine installed c orrectly. Before y ou star t, it is a good idea to go thr ough the following checklist: 1 Has the basepacker been removed? Ref er to page 3.
8 Getting star ted quickly F abric softener If you wish to use fabric softener , place it in the fabric softener dispenser cup on the top of the agitator (ref er to page 15). Impor tant! F abric softener must not be used if you have selected the QUICK cycle or the ECO option (refer t o page 19).
9 Getting star ted quickly If you wish to stop y our W ashSmart™ washer Press ST ART / P A USE. During a spray rinse or spin, there will be a slight delay while the bo wl slows to a stop and the lid is unlocked.
10 W ashSmart ™ contr ols Easy touch buttons The smooth easy clean buttons requir e only a gentle touch to activate. Digital display screen The digital display scr een provides feedback on ho w long the wash cycle has to go, to keep y ou informed throughout the cycle.
11 W ashSmart ™ safety fea tures Lid lock The lid of your W ashSmart™ washer is locked during the wash cycle, ensuring safety for y ou and your family while it is operating. The “Lid locked” light (above the ST ART / P A USE button) is illuminated when the lid lock is activated, letting y ou know at a glance if you can open the lid or not.
12 Eco A ctive ™ wash Y our W ashSmart™ uses a dual-ac tion wash to giv e excellent wash performance while taking great care of your clothes . We call this the Ec o Active™ wash.
13 Sor ting and loading Sor ting T o get the best wash results it pays to sort your clothes befor e washing. Care labels The care label will tell y ou about the fabric of the garment and how it should be washed. Soil Sor t clothes acc ording to the type and amount of soil.
14 Detergen t Choosing the right detergen t W e recommend using domestic laundry detergent. Use pow der or liquid detergent for “T op Loader” machines. When washing wool items , remember to use a detergen t specifically recommended for w oollens. Soap flakes or granulated soap pow ders should not be used in your washer .
15 F abric sof tener How the fabric softener is dispensed The fabric softener goes into the dispenser cup on the top of the agitat or . During the rinse the machine spins to release the fabric softener , deliv ering it down the agitator stem as the machine fills for the final deep rinse.

17 W ash options W ater lev el Auto wa ter level Y our washer has the ability to automatically select the most efficient water lev el for the load. 1 Place your clothes in the machine . 2 Select the wash c ycle (and select A UTO w ater level if not automatically selected).

19 W ash options Options Eco Use the ECO option t o save water . The ECO option uses a spra y rinse which has been specially designed to use at least 25% less wat er than a traditional rinse. Use this option when y ou want to use less detergent and less water .
20 W ash options W ashing bulky items F orcing large items into the machine ma y result in them being damaged during washing. Make sure there is enough room in the machine f or items to move when being washed . Some items float up during the wash (egduvets / doonas , water-proof and w ater-resistant items and pillows).
21 Cust omising wash cycles T o customise a cycle Y ou can program your W ashSmart ™ washer to remember the wash options you pr efer for each wash cycle. F or instance, y ou may want to set the REGULAR cycle to default to a W ARM wash or set HEA VY cycle to include a SO AK.
22 Changing pre-set options Option Adjustment mode After using your washer a number of times you ma y want to fine tune some of the options to suit your wash needs. There are a number of pr e -set options , which can be altered: 1 The wash temperatur es, including changing the C OLD wash temperature t o CONTROLLED C OLD.
23 Changing pre-set options Adjusting y our options 1 Enter Option Adjustment mode (r efer to page 22). 2 The diagram below sho ws how the wash cycle buttons relat e to the options you can change. It also shows what will be displayed when y ou first enter Option Adjustment mode .
24 Changing pre-set options W ash tempera tures All wash temperatur es can be individually adjusted if you think they are too hot or t oo cold. Note: the hot temperatur e will be the same as the hot water supply temperatur e. 1 Enter Option Adjustment mode (r efer to page 22).
25 Changing pre-set options Out of balance reco very routine When your washer is spinning it can sense if the wash load is out of balanc e. If an out of balance load is detected, the machine will stop and re-tr y spinning one mor e time. If it still senses an unbalanced load there are two options the machine can take .
26 Changing pre-set options F actory reset Y ou can reset your washer to the settings it left the factor y with: 1 Enter Option Adjustment mode (r efer to page 22). 2 Select the ALLERGY c ycle . 3 The display will show “ rSt” . T ouch and hold ST ART / P AUSE for 3 seconds to r eset your washer to its factor y settings.

28 Caring f or your washer When you ha ve finished using your w asher T urn off the taps to prev ent the chance of flooding should a hose burst. T urn off the power at the wall .
29 Caring f or your washer Products that might damage y our washer Concentra ted bleaches, nappy sanitisers and h ydrocarbon solvents (eg petr ol and paint thinners) can cause damage to the paintwork and components of your w asher . Be careful when washing garments stained with solvents as they ar e flammable.
30 Saving wat er W ater sa ving tips Bigger loads are more efficient than small loads . Use the ECO option (r efer to page 19). Recycling the wash water Y our washer also offers several wa ys of reusing the wash and rinse water . 1 Select SOAK on the first wash cycle.
31 Before y ou call for service Please read the f ollowing pages before y ou call for service. Y our washer is capable of diagnosing its own problems. If your washer g ives a musical series of beeps every 5 seconds it is telling you that it has a problem which you can solve using the checklist below .
32 Before y ou call for service “Sud LoC” (suds lock – I have too man y suds) The machine has a suds build-up (too much detergen t may have been used f or the amount of soil in the load). W ait for suds to dissolve (about 20 min). Rinse clothes using a deep rinse.
33 Solving operating pr oblems Pressing POWER does not turn the machine on Is the power switched on at the w all? Switch the pow er off at the wall and wait 60 seconds befor e turning the power on again. Could your household po wer supply be at fault? T ry plugging in another electrical appliance.
34 Solving wash problems Listed below are possible causes and solutions t o some common wash problems. Creasing Overloading the washer or dr yer . Choose the EASY IRON or HANDW ASH cycle, as these cycles hav e been designed to minimise creasing. T ry selec ting a slow er spin speed.
35 Solving wash problems Dye transfer W ash and dr y non-colourfast clothes separately . Non-colour fast clothes left sitting in a washer or laundry basket can transfer dye onto other clothes. T angling W ashing with too much water (ie underloading) can cause the clothes to tangle around one another .
