26 SPECIFICATIONS NOTES 1. Subject to improvement or modication without notice. 2. In Search Mode, the 1236-X2 operates under two modes of discrimination.
4 Search Mode Motion Circuitry: In this mode of operation the motion circuitry in the 1236-X2 responds with a 416 Hz tone as the search coil is moved over a target. This makes the 1236-X2 less sensitive to soil mineralization and false target responses associated with the temperature drift and aging of electronic components.
24 Where To Use Your Metal Detector In The U.S. National Forest and Federal Lands —Metal detecting is allowed only by special per mit acquired from the federal government.
6 CONDENSED OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Using the 1236-X2 is simple, but you’ll have more fun and a better chance of making that BIG nd if you have a complete understanding of what you’re doing and why. That’s why we recommend that you read the entire manual rst.

20 FALSE SIGNALS A “false signal” occurs when something that shouldn’t, sounds like a good targe t. Y our 1236- X2 does an excell ent job of ignori ng junk, but it’s so sensitive to good targets that it can be fooled by bad targets with similar electrical characteri stics.
10 CONTROL FUNCTIONS 1. SILENCE R: When the toggle switch is ipped ON, the 1236-X2 runs in the 3rd derivative SILENCER di sc ri mi na ti on m od e, e li mi na ti ng t he a nn oy in g “p op s” and “clicks” heard when searching in extremely trash y areas.
18 TARGET RECOVERY RECOVERY TOOLS Once you have pinpointed a target, your objective is to recover it quickly and neatly, leaving virtually no trace of your excavation.
12 By a dju sti ng t he DI SCRI MIN A TI ON Co ntr ol, yo u will be ab le to ign ore (or “reject”) small pieces of metallic trash and ground minerals while detecting valuable targets. The lowest setting at which an object is rejected is referred to as its “discrimination point.
16 1. Once the presence of a buried target is indicated by the “beep-beep” simply place the coil lightly on the ground, away from the target area. Push the PINPOINT button and hold. (At maximum sensitivity you may hear a faint tone which will disappear as soon as the coil is raised.
14 Figure 7. Keep the search coil parallel and as close to the ground as possible. No w com es th e fun pa rt i f you fo llo w a few s im pl e rul es. Go od s ear ch techniques are every bit as important as a good detector . 1. The 1236-X2 has two operating modes.
