4 - EN Never Attempt the Following Do not grip or pull out the disc while it is being pulled back into the player by the automatic reloading mechanism. Do not attempt to insert a disc into the unit when the unit power is of f. Inserting Discs Y our player accepts only one disc at a time for playback.
5 - EN Installation Location Make sure the CD A-7990 will not be installed in a location subjected to: • Direct sun and heat • High humidity and water • Excessi ve dust • Excessi ve vibrations Handling the Detachable Front Panel • Do not expose to rain or w ater .
6 - EN Basic Operation Detaching the Front Panel Press the PO WER button for more than 3 seconds to turn off the power . Press the RLS (Release) button at lo wer left corner until the front panel pops out. Grasp the left side of the front panel and pull it out.
7 - EN • Before attaching the front panel, make sure that there is no dirt or dust on the connector terminals and no foreign object between the front panel and the main unit. Initial System Start-Up Make sure that the P ower is turned off. When the power is on, press and hold the PO WER button f or at least 3 seconds to turn off the power .
8 - EN Basic Operation T urning P ower On and Off 1 Press the PO WER button to turn on the unit. The volume le vel gradually increases to the pre vious lev el you were listening to bef ore the unit was turned off. Press the POWER button f or more than 3 seconds to turn off the unit.
9 - EN Adjusting V olume/Subw oofer/ Bass/T reble/Balance (Between Left and Right)/F ader (Between Front and Rear) 1 Press the MODE (Audio Control) knob repeatedly to choose the desired mode. Each press changes the modes as f ollows: 2 Rotate the MODE (A udio Control) knob until the desired sound is obtained in each mode.
10 - EN Basic Operation Displa ying Time 1 Press the CLK (clock) b utton repeatedly until the time is displa yed. Each press changes the modes as f ollows: Radio mode CD Player/Changer modes • Selecting any tuner or CD function while in the clock priority mode will interrupt the time display momentarily .
11 - EN D 6 T 01 1 1 4: Setting Time 1 Press and hold the CLK (Clock) b utton for at least 3 seconds while the time is displa yed until the time indication blinks . 2 Rotate the MODE (A udio Control) knob to adjust the hours while the time indication is blinking.
12 - EN Basic Operation Adjusting the Bass/T reb le Center Frequencies Y ou can change the Bass/T re ble center frequencies on this unit. This giv es you flexibility in creating your ideal sound field. 1 Press the hold the SETUP button f or at least 3 seconds.
13 - EN 4 Press the TUNE button to select the desired setting. 1. BC (Setting the Bass Center F requency): Emphasizes the displa yed Bass frequency ranges. 2. BW (Setting the Bass Band Width): (Q-F actor) Changes the displa yed frequency’ s band width to narrow or wide .
14 - EN Basic Operation Setting when Using the Remote Contr ol 1 Press and hold the SETUP button f or at least 3 seconds. 2 Press UP or DN button to select REM CONT mode. Each press changes the modes as shown: 3 Press the TUNE button to toggle the REM CONT mode between On and Off .
15 - EN Switching the T uner Mode The CD A-7990 incorporates the MAX TUNE SQ for the highest quality tuner audio. Moreov er, you can choose between two settings to suit your own personal sound preferences and usage. 1 Press and hold the SETUP button f or at least 3 seconds.
16 - EN Basic Operation Changing Lighting Color 1 Press and hold the SETUP button f or at least 3 seconds. 2 Press the UP button repeatedly to select “ILLUMI”.
17 - EN 3 Press the TUNE button to toggle the mode between Blue and Green. 4 Press the SETUP button to set the selected mode. ILLUMI BLUE ILLUMI GREEN • The initial setting at the f actory is “ILLUMI BLUE”.
18 - EN Basic Operation CD T ext Scr oll Setting This CD player has the ability to scroll the disc and track name recorded on CD-T ext discs. The scrolling feature will w ork with names greater than 12 characters. This feature will not w ork for the 12 character titles that were input manually .
19 - EN Subwoofer On and Off 1 Press and hold the SETUP button f or more than 3 seconds. 2 Press the UP button repeatedly to select “SUB-W”. Each press of the UP button changes the modes as shown: 3 Press the TUNE button to toggle mode between SUB-W ON and SUB-W OFF .
20 - EN Basic Operation Digital Optical Output On and Off When connecting to the Multimedia Manager (PXA-H900), set the D-OUT mode to ON. Set to OFF when not connecting PXA-H900. 1 Press and hold the SETUP button f or at least 3 seconds. 2 Press the UP button to select the D-OUT mode.
21 - EN Setting the A UX Mode Y ou can input TV/video sound by connecting an optional Ai- NET/RCA Interface cable (KCA-121B) to this component. 1 Press and hold the SETUP button f or more than 3 seconds. 2 Press the UP button repeatedly to select “A UX-IN” .
22 - EN Basic Operation T urning Mute Mode On/Off If a device ha ving the interrupt feature is connected, audio will be automatically muted whenev er the interrupt signal is received from the device. This function can be turned ON or OFF from the head unit by following procedure belo w .
23 - EN Blac kout Mode On and Off T urning off the back light of front panel can resist the inference from the noise caused by the back light and provide you a much higher quality sound. 1 Press and hold the B. OUT (Black out) b utton for at least 3 seconds, the “B-OUT ON” indication appears and disappears.
24 - EN Basic Operation Displa ying the Title/T ext It is possible to display the CD/Station title if the title has been previously inputted. F or details, see T itling Discs/Stations (pages 26, 27). T ext information, such as the disc name and the track name, will be displayed if playing a CD text compatible disc.
25 - EN CD/Changer mode: *1 Displa yed during pla yback of a te xt compatible CD . “NO TEXT” will be displa yed when the CD is not te xt compatible. *2 “ ------------ ” will be displa yed when the title has not been inputted. Sample display with a te xt compatible CD .
26 - EN Basic Operation Titling Discs/Stations It is possible to title your fav orite CD’ s or radio stations. 1 Press the TITLE button and select the title displa y mode. For details , see “Displa ying the Title/T ext” (pages 24, 25). 2 Press and hold the TITLE b utton for at least 3 seconds.
27 - EN AA [] 5 Press the MODE (A udio Control) button to store the first character . The first character will stop blinking and the displa y will automatically ad- vance to the ne xt character . When that character begins to blink, y ou may choose the ne xt letter or symbol of your title .
28 - EN Basic Operation Sear ching f or Titled Stations If a Station is titled, you can do a search for it. (T o title Stations, refer to “Titling Discs/Stations” on pages 26, 27.) 1 Press and hold the T .S.M. button f or at least 2 seconds. The title b links in the display .
29 - EN Sear ching f or Titled Discs/CD- TEXT If a CD is titled or contains CD-TEXT , you can do a search for it. (T o title CDs, refer to “T itling Discs/Stations” on pages 26, 27.) 1 Press and hold the T .S.M. button f or at least 2 seconds. The title blinks in the displa y .
30 - EN Basic Operation Erasing Disc Title (CD/CD Changer only) 1 Press the TITLE button to select the disc titling mode. Then, press and hold f or at least 3 sec- onds. 2 Press and hold the button f or at least 2 seconds to activate the title scanning mode .
31 - EN Recalling the Stored Settings Settings stored in the Alpine Multimedia Manager (PXA-H900) using the optional Remote Control, can be recalled at any time. 1 Press the A. PROC b utton on the Remote control. 2 Press the or b utton within 5 seconds, to recall the stored setting.
32 - EN Radio Operation Manual T uning 1 Press the SOURCE button until a r adio frequency appears in the displa y . 2 Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displa yed. Each press changes the band: 3 Press the TUNE button repeatedly until “DX SEEK” and “SEEK” disappear from the display .
33 - EN A utomatic Seek T uning 1 Press the SOURCE button until a r adio frequency appears in the display . 2 Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displa yed. Each press changes the band: 3 Press the TUNE button to illuminate the DX and SEEK indicators in the displa y .
34 - EN Radio Operation Manual Storing of Station Presets 1 Select the radio band and tune in a desired radio station you wish to store in the preset memory . 2 Press and hold any one of the Preset b uttons (1 through 6) f or at least 2 seconds until the “ P ” (Preset) on the displa y blinks.
35 - EN • If you store a station in a preset memory which already has a station, the current station will be cleared and replaced with the new station. • The function indicator will always light in green in the radio mode. Automatic Memory of Station Presets 1 Press the SOURCE button to select the radio mode.
36 - EN Radio Operation Storing into Direct Access Preset (D .A.P .) Band A combination of radio stations in any band (up to 6 stations) can be manually preset into the D .A.P . band. 1 Press the D.A.P . b utton to toggle the D .A.P . setting between ON and OFF .
37 - EN T uning to Preset Stations 1 Press the SOURCE button to select the radio mode. 2 Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired band is displa yed. T o select the D .A.P . band, press the D .A.P . button to set the D .A.P . to ON. 3 Press the station Preset button that has y our desired radio station in memory .
38 - EN CD Player Operation Pla yback Insert a disc with the label side facing up. 1 Inser t a disc with the label side facing up . The disc will be pulled into the unit automatically . The unit star ts to play the CD . When a disc is already inser ted, press the SOURCE button to s witch to the CD mode.
39 - EN Music Sensor (Skip) 1 Momentarily press the DN button once during CD play to return to the beginning of the current track. If you wish to access the beginning of a track further back, repeatedly press until you reach the desired track. Press the UP button once to adv ance to the beginning of the ne xt track.
40 - EN CD Player Operation Repeat Play 1 Press the REPEA T button to pla y back repeatedly the trac k being pla yed. The RPT indicator appears and the trac k will be play ed repeatedly . Press the REPEA T button again and select OFF to deactivate the repeat pla y .
41 - EN M.I.X. (Random Play) 1 Press the M.I.X. button in the pla y or pause mode. The M.I.X. indicator will illuminate and the tracks on the disc will be play ed back in a random sequence. After all the tracks on the disc ha ve been pla yed back once , the play er will begin a new random sequence pla y until the M.
42 - EN CD Player Operation Contr olling CD Chang er (Optional) An optional 6-disc or 12-disc CD Changer may be connected to the CD A-7990 if it is Ai-NET compatible. W ith a CD Changer connected to the Ai-NET input of the CD A-7990, the CD Changer will be controllable from the CD A-7990.
43 - EN Multi-Changer Selection Alpine’ s Ai-NET system will support up to 6 CD Changers. When operating two or more changers, the KCA-400C (Multi-Changer Switching device) must be used. If you use 1 Switching de vice, you can connect up to 4 CD Changers.
44 - EN In Case of Difficulty If you encounter a problem, please re view the items in the following checklist. This guide will help you isolate the problem if the unit is at fault. Otherwise, make sure the rest of your system is properly connected or consult your authorized Alpine dealer .
45 - EN Unable to fast forward or back- ward the CD. • The CD has been damaged. - Eject the CD and discard it; using a damaged CD in your unit can cause damage to the mechanism. CD playback sound skips due to vibration. • Improper mounting of the unit.
