4 -EN PRECAUTIONS Never Attempt the Following Do not grip or pull out the disc while it is being pulled back into the player by the automatic reloading mechanism. Do not attempt to insert a disc into the unit when the unit power is off. Inserting Discs Y our player accepts only one disc at a time for playback.
5 -EN Basic Operation Opening the Fr ont P anel 1 Press the Open b utton on the F ront Panel. NO TE The display will close a half minute after the ignition ke y is turned to the OFF position. Hiding the Fr ont P anel 1 Press and hold the c b utton on the F ront P anel for at least 3 seconds.
6 -EN Adjusting V olume / Balance ( Between Left and Right ) / Fader ( Between Front and Rear ) / Defeat 1 Press the MODE button repeatedly to choose the desired mode.
7 -EN 4 T ur n the Rotary encoder to adjust the minutes while the time indication is blinking. The time is automatically set 5 seconds after the minute adjustment. The time can be manually set by pressing the MODE b utton. NOTE T o synchr onize the clock to a time signal, pr ess the MODE button for at least 3 seconds after setting the “hour .
8 -EN About the Cr ossover Crosso ver: This unit is equipped with an Activ e Crossover . The crossov er limits the frequencies delivered to the outputs . Each channel is controlled independently . Thus, each speaker pair can be driv en by the frequencies f or which they ha ve been optimally designed.
9 -EN Adjusting and Storing the Cr ossover Before perf or ming the follo wing procedures, ref er to “ About the Crossov er ” (P age 8) 1 Press and hold the T .CORR button f or at least 3 seconds. < 2 W A Y System > 2 Press the B AND button to select desired parameter .

17 -EN Switching the T uner Mode The CD A-7998/CD A-7897 incor porates the MAX TUNE SQ f or the highest quality tuner audio. Moreov er , you can choose between 3 settings to suit y our own personal sound pref erences and usage. 1 Press and hold the SETUP button f or at least 3 seconds.
18 -EN SETUP Operation Setting the Subw oofer Output Y ou can set the subwoofer output to stereo or monaural. Make sure to set the correct output f or your subw oofer type. 1 Press and hold the SETUP button f or at least 3 seconds. 2 Press the g DN or the f UP button to select “ Subwoof er STEREO .
19 -EN Setting the A UX Mode ( V -Link ) Y ou can input TV/video sound b y connecting an optional Ai-NET/RCA Interf ace cable (KCA-121B) or V ersatile Link T erminal (KCA-410C) to this component. 1 Press and hold the SETUP b utton for at least 3 seconds.

22 -EN Radio Operation Manual T uning 1 Press the SOURCE b utton until a radio frequency appears in the displa y . 2 Press the B AND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displa yed. Each press changes the band: 3 Press the TUNE b utton repeatedly until “DX SEEK (DX)” and “SEEK (LOCAL)” disappear from the displa y .

24 -EN CD Player Operation Insert a disc with the label side facing up. 2 Inser t a disc with the label side facing up . The disc will be pulled into the unit automatically . The mov able displa y will close and pla yback will begin. When a disc is already inser ted, press the SOURCE button to s witch to the CD mode.
25 -EN Repeat Play 1 Press the REPEA T button to pla y back repeatedly the trac k being played. The track will be pla yed repeatedly . Press the REPEA T button again and select OFF to deactivate the repeat pla y .
26 -EN Contr olling CD Changer ( Optional ) An optional 6-disc or 12-disc CD Changer ma y be connected to the CD A-7998/CD A-7897 if it is Ai-NET compatible . With a CD Changer connected to the Ai- NET input of the CD A-7998/CD A-7897, the CD Changer will be controllable from the CD A-7998/CDA-7897.
27 -EN Multi-Changer Selection Alpine's Ai-NET system will suppor t up to 6 CD Changers. When operating two or more changers , the KCA-400C (Multi-Changer Switching de vice) must be used. If you use 1 Switching de vice, you can connect up to 4 CD Changers.
28 -EN MP3 Operation SOURCE c - / J Playing MP3 Files with the CD Changer ( Optional ) If you connect a changer compatib le with MP3, you can play CD-R OMs, CD-Rs, and CD-R Ws containing MP3 files on the CD A-7998/CDA-7897. 1 Press the SOURCE button to s witch to the MP3 Changer mode.

30 -EN Setting the Range of MP3 File Selection Y ou can set the range of MP3 file selection to “entire disc contents” or “f older contents only . ” 1 Press and hold the SETUP b utton for at least 3 seconds. 2 Press the f UP or g DN b utton to select the MP3 PLA Y mode.
31 -EN • Corresponding File Systems This device supports discs formatted with ISO9660 Lev el 1 or Lev el 2. Under the ISO9660 standard, there are some restrictions to remember . The maximum nested f older depth is 8 (including the root directory). File/folder names are limited to 31 characters (including the e xtension).
32 -EN Chec king the XM Radio ID Number Y ou need to provide XM with the unique XM Radio ID number for y our XM Radio Receiver in order to subscribe to XM's programming. This number is an 8 character alphanumeric n umber that is printed on a label directly on the XM Receiver .
