5 -EN New Discs As a protecti ve measure to pre vent the disc from jamming, the D VD player will automatically eject discs with irregular surf aces or inserted incorrectly . When a ne w disc is inserted into the player and ejected after initial loading, using your finger , feel around the inside of the center hole and outside edge of the disc.
6 -EN Disc Accessories There are various accessories a v ailable on the market for protecting the disc surface and improving sound quality . Howe ver , most of them will influence the thickness and/or diameter of the disc. Using such accessories can cause operational problems.
7 -EN Discs that cannot be played D VD-R OMs, D VD-RAMs, D VD + Rs, D VD + R Ws, CD-ROMs (excluding MP3/WMA f iles), photo CDs, etc. DVD region number (playable region number) This D VD player will play back any disc whose re gion number is 1 (or All).
8 -EN Disc terminology Title If titles are programmed for the D VD, these are the largest units of division of the information recorded on the disc. Chapter Each T itle may also be di vided into smaller divisions, called chapters. These can be specif ic scenes or musical selections.

16 -EN Te r m inology Bit rate This is the “sound” compr ession rate specif ied for encoding. The higher the bit rate, the higher the sound quality , but also the lar ger the files. Sampling rate This value shows how many times per second the data is sampled (r ecorded).

20 -EN Finding the Beginnings of Chapters or T racks During playbac k, touch [ g ] or [ f ] . The chapter/track switches each time the button is touched, and playback of the selected chapter/track starts. f : T ouch this to start playback from the beginning of the following chapter or track.

32 -EN SYSTEM Setup System Setup Operation To display the System mode screen: To watch a video source, your vehicle must be parked with the ignition key in the ACC or ON position. T o do this, follow the procedur e below . 1. Brake to bring your vehicle to a complete stop at a safe location.
33 -EN Connecting and Setting the External Expansion Bo x This setting becomes necessary when the optional expansion box (VPE-S431) is connected. Setting item: EXP ANSION BO X Setting content: OFF / ON OFF: Select when the expansion box (VPE-S431) is not connected.
34 -EN Optical Digital Input Selection for an External A udio Processor Make sure “OPTICAL OUT” is ON in “Setting the Digital Output” (page 30) before switching this setting. Setting item: A.PROC TYPE Setting contents: PXA-H510 / O THER O THER: When connecting any audio processor via an optical digital cable except the PXA-H510.
35 -EN Setting Automatic Bac kground T extures Tu rn on the Automatic Background T exture Scroll to automatically change background texture. The background texture will change each time the ignition key is turned of f and turned back on again (5 textures).
36 -EN Bass Engine Function Setting the Bass Engine The following steps 1 to 6 ar e common operations to each “Setting item” of bass engine Setup. Refer to each section f or details. 1 T ouch [SYS.] on the source main screen. The SYSTEM selection screen is displayed.
37 -EN Tips * Subwoofer speaker Y ou cannot change the time correction value for the subwoofer , but you can set the subwoofer's apparent position to the front by adjusting the time corr ection value of the front and rear speakers. For details, refer to the “Tips” on page 39.
38 -EN Example 2. Listening P osition: All Seats Adjust the time correction level of each speaker to almost the same level. 1S it in the listening position (driver’ s seat, etc.) and measure the distance (in meters) between your head and the various speakers.

41 -EN Data Download About SOUND SETUP Download Y ou can download data (from Alpine’ s website) to a CD-R/CD-R W or HDD, and download and store the data to the IV A-D300. To start SOUND SETUP download, access the URL belo w and follow the on-screen instructions.
42 -EN Setting AMP Link (Optional) Adjusting and Storing/Recalling the External Amplifier (Option) When an external amplif ier (MRD-M301 or MRD-M501) is connected, you can set it from this unit.
43 -EN Recalling the Stored Contents of Amplifier Adjustment 1 Select P-1 or P-2 by touching [ ; ] or [ : ] of MEMOR Y READ from the adjustment mode list. 2T ouch [READ] . 45 -EN 7 T ouch a desired adjustment mode. FREQ: Adjust the H.P .F . or L.P .F . cutoff frequency . The adjustable bands differ accor ding to the channel (speaker). SLOPE: Adjust the H.P .F . or L.P .F . slope. LEVEL: Adjust the H.P .F . or L.P .F . level.
46 -EN 2.25m 0.5m 5.1ms The sound is uneven because the distance between the listening position and the different speakers is different. The difference in the distance between the front left and rear right speakers is 1.
47 -EN • When the speaker is set to the “OFF” mode, the parametric equalizer for that speaker cannot be set. Refer to “Setting the Speakers” (pag e 44).
48 -EN Speaker Setup The PXA-H700 or PXA-H701 can be set according to the playable frequency range of your speakers. Check the playable frequency range of the speakers (not including the subwoofer) before performing this operation to verify whether the speakers can play lo w frequencies (of about 80 Hz or less).
49 -EN Adjusting the DVD Level The volume (signal le vel) for Dolby Digital, Dolby PL II, DTS and PCM modes can be set. •A void stopping, pausing, switching the disc, cueing , fast- forwar ding or switching the audio channel of this unit while making this adjustment.

52 -EN Multi-Changer Selection (Optional) Alpine's Ai-NET system will support up to 6 CD Changers. When operating two or more changers, the KCA-400C (Multi-Changer Switching device) must be used. If you use 1 Switching de vice, you can connect up to 4 CD Changers.

57 -EN Information About DVDs Music CDs and DVDs have grooves (tracks) in which the digital data is recor ded. The data is repr esented as microscopic pits r ecorded into the track – these pits ar e read by a laser beam to play the disc. On DVDs, the density of the tracks and pits is twice that of CDs, so DVDs can contain more data in less space.
58 -EN Dolby Pr o Logic Dolby Pro Logic is the technology used to decode pr ograms encoded in Dolby Surround. Pr o logic decoding will provide you with four channels of sound (front left/right, center and monaural rear surr ound) from a 2-channel (ster eo) source.
