5 -EN Irregular Shaped Discs Be sure to use round shaped discs only for this unit and ne ver use any special shaped discs. Use of special shaped discs may cause damage to the mechanism.
6 -EN Disc Accessories There are various accessories a v ailable on the market for protecting the disc surface and improving sound quality . Howe ver , most of them will influence the thickness and/or diameter of the disc. Using such accessories can cause operational problems.
7 -EN Using compact discs (CD/CD-R/CD-RW) If you use unspecified compact discs, correct performance cannot be guaranteed. Y ou can play CD-Rs (CD-Recordable)/CD-R Ws (CD-ReWritable) which hav e been recorded only on audio devices. Y ou can also play CD-Rs/CD-R Ws containing MP3 formatted audio files.
8 -EN Getting Started Basic Operation This section describes the basic operation of the D VD. These operations also apply to the other sources. 1 Press SOURCE/POWER on the unit to turn the power on. 2 Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the monitor . The unit beeps 3 times and raises the monitor .
9 -EN RESET switch 1 2 Compatibility with Factory Steering Wheel Radio Controls If your vehicle has steering wheel controls for the radio, an optional steering wheel control interface may be available to connect to your Alpine radio. For details, contact your Alpine dealer .
10 -EN Selecting the Monitor Opening Angle The monitor opening angle can be set in 2 positions. Press and hold FLA T/SLIDE f or at least 2 seconds while the monitor is being raised.
11 -EN Radio Listening to the Radio 1 Press SOURCE/POWER . The main menu screen appears. 2 Tu r n the Rotary encoder to select "RADIO," then press the Rotary encoder . The radio mode is activated and the display changes to the Radio Mode screen.
12 -EN 3 Press 1 ( g ) or 3 ( f ) to select the desired track (file). Returning to the beginning of the current track (file): Press 1 ( g ). F ast bac kward : Press and hold 1 ( g ). Adv ancing to the beginning of the next trac k (file) : Press 3 ( f ).
13 -EN M.I.X. (Random Play) Press 5 ( M.I.X. ) in the play or pause mode. The tracks (files) on the disc will be played back in a random sequence. To cancel M.I.X. play , press 5 ( M.I.X. ) again. CD: M.I.X. → * 1 M.I.X. ALL → (of f) → M.I.X. MP3: * 2 M.
14 -EN Formats supported This device supports CD-ROM XA, Mixed Mode CD, Enhanced CD (CD-Extra) and Multi-Session. This device cannot correctly play back discs r ecorded with Tr ack At Once or packet writing. Order of trac ks The unit plays the files in the order that the writing softwar e writes them.
15 -EN To display the D VD mode screen To watch a video source, your v ehicle must be parked with the ignition key in the A CC or ON position. T o do this, follow the procedure below . 1. Push the foot brake to bring your vehicle to a complete stop at a safe location.
16 -EN To check the disc w orking status during pla y 1P r ess V. SEL when your vehicle stops. Each pressing switches the visual sour ce. The menu screen of the DVD mode is displayed. Then disc working status can be checked. 2P r ess V. SEL again to return DVD screen.
17 -EN Fast-forwarding/Fast-reversing 1 During playbac k, press and hold 1 ( g ) (fast- reverse) or 3 ( f ) (fast-forwar d). When pressed for mor e than 1 second, the disc is forwarded/r eversed at double speed. When held in 5 more seconds, the disc is forwar ded/ r eversed at 8 times the normal speed.
18 -EN Searching by T itle Number (DVD only) Use this function to easily find positions on the D VD using the D VD’ s titles. 1 When the playbac k stops, input the number of the title you want to pla y using the number b uttons (“0” to “9”) on the supplied remote control.
19 -EN Switching the Subtitles (Subtitle Language) (DVD only) W ith D VDs on which multiple subtitle languages are recorded, the subtitle language can be switched during playback; moreov er , subtitles can be hidden. 1 During playbac k, press 7 ( P AGE 1/3 ).

24 -EN Other Useful Features Y ou can title radio stations and Discs (CD, V ideo CD). This manual describes how to title radio stations. (Y ou cannot title MP3 discs, e xcept in an MP3 compatible CD changer .) 1 Activate the radio mode. T une in a radio station you wish to title.
25 -EN 3 Press the Rotary encoder . The selected title starts to play , and the screen returns to the Radio mode. To display the f older list or the file list of MP3 disc 1P r ess 6 ( NEXT : ) while the disc title list is displayed. The folder title list of the selected disc is displayed.

29 -EN Setting of the Subtitle Language Setting item: SUB T . LANGU A GE Setting contents: A UT O / ENGLISH / GERMAN / FRENCH / JAP AN / CODE Set the language of the subtitles displayed on the screen. • When “A UTO” is selected, the primary subtitle langua ge among the r ecorded ones is played.
30 -EN Changing the Digital Output Setting Use the following procedure to set the digital audio signal output from the IV A-D901. Setting item: DIGIT AL OUT MODE Setting contents: A UT O / LPCM AU TO : The digital output is switched automatically according to the type of audio signals being played.
31 -EN Setting the Digital Output To connect an audio processor using the optical digital output, set to “ON” by the following procedure. Setting item: OPT .OUT Setting contents: OFF / ON •A fterwards, set ACC to OFF once , then turn it ON again.

33 -EN Navigation Interruption and Adjusting its V olume Setting item: NA V .MIX Setting content: OFF / ON W ith an Alpine navigation system connected to the IV A-D901, the vo ice guidance of the navigation system will be mixed with the radio or CD play .
34 -EN DISPLA Y Setup Name External Equipment to be Display ed When more than one external de vice is connected, you can name each (up to 3) as you like. Setting items: A UX IN 1 to 3 MODE Setting contents: A UX / VCR / GAME 1,2 / TV • The selected sour ce name is displayed instead of A UX source name.

36 -EN Navigation System (Optional) Controlling the Navigation System (Optional) If an optional Alpine Na vigation System is connected to the IV A- D901, some of its functions can be controlled from the IV A-D901. 1 Press SOURCE/POWER . The main menu screen appears on the display .

38 -EN XM Radio (Optional) Receiving XM Channels with the XM Receiver (Optional) XM Satellite Radio* is the next generation of audio entertainment, with up to 100 brand-new digital channels. F or a small monthly fee, subscribers can hear crystal-clear music, sports, news and talk, coast- to-coast via satellite.
39 -EN Checking the XM Radio ID Number Y ou need to provide XM with the unique XM Radio ID number for your XM Radio Receiv er in order to subscribe to XM's programming. This number is an 8 character alphanumeric number that is printed on a label directly on the XM Recei ver .
40 -EN MobileHub™ Link (Optional) About MobileHub™ Link (Optional) Connect a separately sold junction box and a portable telephone (av ailable from Nokia) to control the incoming and outgoing calls of the portable telephone. CA UTION • Even with hands-free operation, a driver can be distracted during telephone operation or receiving a call.
41 -EN •W ith a junction box connected outgoing, incoming, and sending history will also be r ecor ded in the portable telephone. • While telephoning, T ime Correction is set to normal (0.0ms) and DEFEA T is also set to ON. When the call has finished, the unit re turns to the setting which you pr eviously set.
42 -EN Calling by the ad dress book From your vehicle, call from the address book re gistered in the portable telephone. 1 Press and hold the Rotary encoder for more than 2 seconds. The Speed Dial display appears. 2 Press 7 ( RETURN ). The T elephone menu display appears.
43 -EN Sending a standar dized sentence Y ou can select a standardized sentence when you send a mail. 1 Press and hold the Rotary encoder for more than 2 seconds. The Speed Dial display appears. 2 Press 7 ( RETURN ). The T elephone menu display appears.
44 -EN External Audio Pr ocessor (Optional) When an external audio processor is connected to this unit, you can operate it from this unit. Some audio processors may not be operated. When PXA-H510 or PXA-H900 is connected, some of the operations may not be performed from this unit.
45 -EN Set MX Mode of the External Audio Processor Before performing the operations belo w , set MX (Media Xpander) mode of the external audio processor to “ A UTO. ” 1 Check that def eat mode is off. 2 Press SOURCE/POWER . The main menu is displayed.

50 -EN Adjusting the DVD Level The volume (signal le vel) for Dolby Digital, Dolby PL II, DTS and PCM modes can be set. •A void stopping, pausing, switching the disc, cueing , fast- forwar ding or switching the audio channel of this unit while making this adjustment.

56 -EN Battery Replacement Applicable battery: Use two “ AAA” sized dry batteries or equi valent. 1 Opening the battery cover . Push on the cover and slide it as indicated by the arr ows then the cover will be removed. 2 Replacing the battery . Put the batteries in the case observing the polarity , as illustrated.
57 -EN Information About DVDs Music CDs and DVDs have grooves (tracks) in which the digital data is recor ded. The data is repr esented as microscopic pits r ecorded into the track – these pits ar e read by a laser beam to play the disc. On DVDs, the density of the tracks and pits is twice that of CDs, so DVDs can contain more data in less space.
58 -EN Dolby Pr o Logic Dolby Pro Logic is the technology used to decode pr ograms encoded in Dolby Surround. Pr o logic decoding will provide you with four channels of sound (front left/right, center and monaural rear surr ound) from a 2-channel (ster eo) source.
