3 Preparations are now complete. The scanner is now read y for use. W ork Flo w 1 Chec k the packing contents. Open the pac king box and check the contents . 2 Insert the driver setup CD into CD-ROM drive. T ur n the power to the computer on and insert the setup disk in the disk drive.
4 When you insert the setup disk into the CD-ROM drive, the f ollowing screen automatically appears. This star t screen f or installation is called the “ main men u ” of the installation utility . 5 The f ollowing details each item introduced in “ W ork Flow . ” Proceed with preparation b y follo wing the procedural sequence belo w . If you ha ve connected the scanner , disconnect the scanner , then install the scanner driver and connect the scanner by f ollowing the procedure belo w .

8 If you ha v e inadver tently connected the scanner to the computer bef ore installing the scanner driver , check the connection, ref erring to “ Chec king the Connection ” . Click Restart > OK. Connect the scanner f or the first time at this step.
9 Click Y es . Press the scan button. The f ollowing screen appears: If the abov e screen does not appear , check the connection, referring to “ Chec king the Connection ” .
10 Place the scanner on the white area of the calibration sheet, then clic k OK. Be sure not to mov e the scanner while the f ollowing screen is being displa yed. When the abov e screen appears, slowly mov e the scanner from the white area to the blac k area.
11 When this screen appears, clic k OK. If the calibration termination screen does not appear after you mov e the scanner to the bottom, mov e the scanner to the top again. Continue scanning the sheet until the ter mination screen appears. Scanning is complete.
12 The f ollowing screen appears: Y ou can now use the scanner . If this error message is display ed, click OK, slo wly mov e the scanner from the blac k area to the white area of the calibration sheet again. When the scanner reaches the end of the sheet, continue scanning b y moving the scanner in the opposite direction on the sheet.
13 Using the Mobile Color Scanner Hav e ready the or iginal of the mater ial y ou want to scan. For details of the scanning r ange of this scanner , see “ Original Sizes the Scanner Can Scan ” . Place the scanner on the original. Press the scan button.
14 When the light around the scan button becomes g reen, slowl y mov e the scanner to scan the original mater ial. Move the scanner while ensuring that it does not become separ ated from the sheet. Press the scan button again at the position you w ant to stop scanning.
15 Setting Operation P erf ormed when Pressing the Scan Button Y ou can use FUJITSU launch to set the operation perf or med when the scan b utton of this scanner is pressed. FUJITSU launch is a resident icon on the taskbar after installation of the scanner driver .
16 Coor dinating Processing with FUJITSU Launc h Specify how processing is perf or med when clicking the T r ansf er button on the driv er screen or which software prog ram is to be started after an image is scanned. (See “Screens Displa yed during the Use of the Scanner”.
17 Detailed setting This option is used to set the f older used when you select Sa v e to file for Sa ve to ... and the application to be star ted when you select Launch application f or it.
18 The f ollowing outlines the names and functions of the items on the scanner driv er screen. F or details, see Online Help of the scanner driver . Main T ab This screen is displa y ed on the left when the scanner driver star ts. Y ou can bring up the screen by pressing the scanner b utton.
19 Image Adjustment tab Original screen Displa ys the image scanned using the settings previously sav ed. Undo button Returns the settings on the Image Adjustment page to those pre viously saved. Automatic chec k box When turned on, automatically sets each adjustment item.
20 Preview window Displays the scanned image. Pre view Screen The previe w screen, which is displa yed on the right of the screen regardless of whether the Main or Image Adjustment tab is selected, displa ys the scanned image in the pre view window . Scan button Scans an original using the set values .
21 This scanner can scan an original with a smooth surface such as a photogr aph or printed matter . Check the conditions and sizes of originals the scanner can scan bef ore scanning an original. T o scan a large or iginal, see “ Scanning a Large Original ” .

23 1 Make sure that the po wer to the computer is on and set this scanner on an original. Make sure that the original area to be scanned is within the scanning range of the scanner and the beginning of the original is at the scanning star t position. The f ollowing figure shows the scanning r ange.
24 2 Start scanning the original. Follo w the procedure below to scan the original. P erform steps 2) and 3) only when you use the scanner with the software f or the first time. F or inf or mation on how to start the scanner from software, see the manual f or the softw are you are using.
25 3 Move the scanner as f ollows. • When A uto is chec ked under Direction on the driver screen The scanner automatically recognizes orientation of scanned characters and con verts them into right orientation. Y ou can scan the original without considering the scanning direction.
26 4 T erminate scanning. When the scanner scans the specified size of the original, it automatically terminates scanning. When the Adjust Image check bo x is off, scanning is now complete . The scanned image is display ed on the softw are. When the Adjust Image check bo x is on, a reduced image is display ed in the previe w window .
27 Guide 5 Clic k the Image Adjustment tab. On the Imag e Adjustment page, adjust the image, and r otate, horizontall y flip, and cut the image on the previe w screen if required. 6 Clic k the T ransfer b utton on the driver screen to transfer the image to the software.

29 • If y ou scan a document on the ske w , black dots and others ma y be displa yed on a stitching boundar y . In this case, remo ve them using image processing softw are. • If you scan a document containing a dr awing or photograph, the dr awing or photograph in the stitching result may be misaligned.
30 Images which can be stitched Image 1 Image 2 Images which cannot be stitched Image 1 Image 2 For photograph image stitching Scan a photograph or picture image original so that an area of at least 20 mm must be scanned twice. Scan an original from the top to the bottom.
31 Scanning a Large Original For a large original, select Char acter Image for Stitching Mode and scan the or iginal se ver al times. For a photogr aph or picture image original, select Photograph Image. The f ollowing e xplains how to mak e settings on the driver screen.
32 3 Specify a value f or Scan Times. For character ima ge stitching Specify 2 to 6 f or Scan Times as the number of times the original is to be scanned. For photograph image stitching 2 is fix ed for Scan Times. 4 Start scanning. Press the scan button of this scanner or clic k the Scan button on the driv er screen to star t scanning.
33 6 T erminate stitching. When the specified number of images ha ve been scanned and stitched, scanning terminates, the driver screen is closed, and the image of the stitching result is display ed on the softw are. If you w ant to ter minate scanning bef ore the specified number of images ha ve been scanned, click the Stop Stitching b utton.
34 T o keep the scanner in good condition, clean the scanner about once a month. Burns Electric shock • Bef ore cleaning the scanner , alwa ys disconnect the pen scanner from the computer . • Cleaning the scanner without disconnecting it from the computer ma y result in burns or electric shock.
35 Cleaning the Optical Unit A dir ty optical unit may cause images to be distorted. Wipe the optical unit with a soft dr y cloth. Use a soft dr y cloth to clean the optical unit.
36 The follo wing e xplains how to uninstall the scanner driv er and software supplied with the scanner . T o uninstall software in a Windows 2000 environment, y ou must log on as Administrator . Reinstallation Before reinstalling the scanner driv er , first delete the e xisting files .
37 4 Restart the computer . After completion of uninstallation, restart the computer. The scanner driver is no w uninstalled. Uninstalling Software Supplied with the Scanner 1 Select Settings fr om the Star t menu and c lick Contr ol Panel. The Control P anel dialog appears.
38 Read the f ollowing if an error message is displa yed or you cannot operate the scanner as e xpected while using the scanner . Chec king the Connection After connecting this scanner to the computer.
39 3 On Windows 98/Me: Click the De vice Manager tab in the System Proper ties dialog. On Windows 2000: Click the De vice Manager button on the Hardware tab in the System Properties dialog. V erify that FUJITSU Mobile Color Scanner has been created under Imaging Devices in the displa yed De vice Manager page.
40 If FUJITSU Mobile Color Scanner has not been created and USB De vice is displa yed under Other De vices or USB Device under Imaging Devices is marked with an e xclamation mark (!) on Windows 98/Me/2000, the scanner driver has not been installed successfully .
41 Error Messa ges If an error message is displa yed during the use of this scanner , scan the original again and check whether the error recurs bef ore assuming that the scanner is f aulty . If the error recurs, tak e appropriate action in accordance with the explanations giv en below .
42 Error messa ge The specified scanner is being used. An input-output error occurred in the scanner . The memory is insufficient. – P arameter error (internal) – The calling procedure is in valid (internal). – A range specification is inv alid (inter nal).
43 Error message Because the scanner was stopped, scan opera- tion was aborted. Y ou cannot select “ A utomatic ” in “ Direction ” if “ Halftone ” is selected in “ Image T ype. ” Select “ Manual ” in “ Direction, ” or select a setting other than “ Halftone ” in “ Image T ype.
44 Submessages Error messa ge – Undefined error – Processing cannot be continued because memory is insufficient. – The data source could not be f ound. – The maximum allow ed number of connections was e xceeded. – An operator error occurred.
45 Bef ore Assuming that the Scanner is Faulty If y ou cannot operate the scanner as e xpected or an error occurs, chec k the follo wing items bef ore assuming that the scanner is faulty .
46 1 Select Settings fr om the Star t menu and c lick Control P anel. 3 On Windows 98/Me, click the De vice Manager tab in the System Properties dialog. On Windows 2000, clic k the Device Manager button on the Hard ware pag e in the System Pr oper ties dialog.
47 5 Select USB Device and c lick the Remo ve button. 6 Connect the scanner to the computer . Although the setup disk is inserted, the main men u does not appear .
48 Prob lems after scanning The scanned image contains streaks. • The optical unit of the scanner ma y be dir ty or there may be f oreign matter on the unit. Clean the optical unit. (Refer to “ Maintenance ” and “ Cleaning the Optical Unit ” .
49 Aliasing in the image is noticeable. • If the scanning resolution is low , aliasing ma y become noticeable depending on the image. Specify a higher resolution and scan the original again. • Although an original is scanned at high resolution, aliasing ma y become noticeable when the image is scaled up.
