− − − Child ren dep end on adults to protect them. However, despi te t heir best int ent ions, ma ny a dult s do not know how t o protect child passengers. If you have child ren, or ever need to driv e w it h a child in your ve hicle, be sure t o r ea d t his sect ion.

Only a re ar -f a cing c hild sea t pr ovides proper suppor t f or a ba by’s hea d, neck, and ba ck. A n inf a nt must be proper ly res t ra ined in a re ar -f a cing, r eclining child sea t unt il t he c hild re ache s t he sea t make r’s weight or height limit f or t he sea t , and th e child is at lea st one year ol d.

In sea t ing posit ions and v ehicle s not equipped w it h L A T CH, a L A T CH- compat ible child se at c an be inst a lled using a sea t belt . What ever t ype of sea t you choo se, to prov ide pr oper prot ect ion, a c hild seat should meet three requir ement s: L ook f or F MV SS 213 or CMVSS 213 on the bo x.
