5 I NTRODUCTION Disconnecting the Po werLink Cable Before removing the cable from the scanner, Metrologic recommends that the power on the host system is off and the power supply has been disco nnected from the PowerLink cable. 6 I NTRODUCTION Labels Every scanner has labels and mold ed text located on the undersi de of the unit. The labels and text contain im portant information such as the unit’s d ate of manufacture, serial number, CE and cautio n information. F igure 5 provides examples of the labels and the molded text.
7 I NSTALLING THE S CANNER TO THE H OST S YSTEM RS232, Laser Emulation, and Light Pen Emulation 1. Turn off the host system. 2. Connect the 10-pin RJ45 male connector into the jack on the scanner. There will be an au dible click when the connector lock engages.
8 I NSTALLING THE S CANNER TO THE H OST S YSTEM RS485 1. Turn off the host system. 2. Plug the male 10-pin RJ45 end of the MVC cable into the 10-pin socket on the scanner. You will hear a ‘click’ when the connection is made. 3. Connect the other end of the MVC cable to the host device.

14 S TAND K ITS Assembly There are two options for assembling the stand. The first option is a self- supporting stand that can be moved freely a bout on the countertop. The secon d option is used if the stand will be bo lt ed or hard-mounted to the countertop.

17 I NDICATORS Audible When the Voyager is in operation, it provides audi ble feedback. These sounds indicate the status of the scanner . Eight settings are avail able for the tone of the beep (normal, 6 alternate tones and no t one ). To change the beeper tone, refer to the MetroSelect Single-Line Configuration Guide or MetroSet2’s help file s.

When the scanner is in operat ion, the flas hing, or stationary activit y of the LEDs indicates the status of the scanner and the c urrent scan.
19 I NDICATORS Failure Modes Razzberry Tone – On Star t-Up This indicates the scanner has experi enced a flipper/motor failure. Return the unit for repair to an authorized ser vice center.
20 C ONFIGURATION M ODES The MS9500 Voyag er has three modes of configuration. • Bar Codes Voyager or Voyager CG can be configured by scanning the bar codes located in the MetroSelect ® Single-Line Conf iguration Guide ( MLPN 00-02544). This manual can be do wnloaded for FREE at www.
21 C ONFIGURATION M ODES 4. During configur ation, the motor and laser turn off. YOU CANNOT SCAN A BAR CODE WHILE IN SERIAL CONFIGURATION MODE. 5. There is a 20 second window bet ween commands. If a 20 second timeout occurs, the scanner will send a [nak] and you must start over.
22 C ONFIGURATION M ODES EXAMPLE #3 : The following example sho ws the events that occur when an invalid bar co de is sent. This sample will load the factory default settings and then set the baud rate to 19200.
23 U PGRADING THE F IRMWARE The Voyager series is part of Metrologic's line of scanners with flash upgr adeable firmware. The upgrade process requir es a new firmware file supplied to the customer by a customer service representative and Metrologic's MetroSet 2 software .

25 IR A CTIVATION R ANGE The scanner's laser will turn off if the scanner has been idle. When the scanner's IR detects movement in the activation area ( see figur e below ), the laser will automatically turn on, prepar ing the sca nner for bar code recogn ition, decoding, and transmission.
