2 HP All-in-One overview Use the HP All-i n-One to quickly and easily accomplish tasks such as printi ng photos from a memory card, b urning and labeling CD/DVD s, scanning documents, or making a copy. You can access many HP All-in-On e functions directly from the contro l panel, without turning o n your computer.

Display ico ns The followi ng icons can appear at the bott om of the display to provide important information ab out the HP All-in-O ne. Icon Purpose Shows the ink cartridge status. The color o f the icon corresponds to the color of the ink cartridge, and the fill level of the icon corr esponds to the fill level of the ink cartridge.

4 Finish setting up the HP All-in- One After you have completed the steps in your Setup Guide, re fer to this section to help you finish setting up the HP All-in-One. This section contains important setup -related information f or your device, including inform ation on setting preferences.
4. Touch the language you want to select. NOTE: If the menu option yo u want is not visible on the scre en, touch or to scroll thro ugh all the menu options. 5. When prompt ed, touch Yes to confirm your selection , or touch No to choose another langua ge.
To turn faster browsing on or off 1. Touch Setup on the displa y. 2. Touch Tool s . 3. Touch to scroll through the options, and then touch Enable Faster Browsing . 4. There are two type s of slideshow s that you can enable: • Store Demo : appears after the H P All-in-One is inactive for o ne minute and shows a set of predefine d graphics that describe featu res of the device. The slideshow plays until you pre ss a button or u se the devic e.
Computer connection information The HP All-in-One come s equipped with a USB port so you can connect di rectly to a computer using a USB cable. You can also connect the HP All-in-One to either a wi red or wireless netwo rk. Additionally, the built-in Bluetooth ® Wireless T echnology allows Bluetooth ® devices to print to the HP All-in-One.
Connect using int egrated wireless W LAN 802.11 The HP All-in-One u ses an internal networking compon ent that supports a wireless network. Fo r detailed instructions on conn ecting the HP All-in-One to a wi reless (802.11) network, see “ Integrated wireless WLAN 802.
6. When you have finished entering a name for the HP All-in-One, touch OK . The name you entered will appear on your Bluetooth device when you connect to the HP All-in-O ne to print.

Install the software for a n etwork connection Use this section to i nstall the HP All-in-One software on a comput er connected to a network. Before you install th e software, make sure you have conne cted the HP All-in- One to a network.
Change the HP All-in-O ne from a USB connection to a network connectio n If you first i nstall the HP All-in-One with a USB connection , you can later change t o either a wireless or Ethernet netw ork connection. If you already unde rstand how to connect to a network, you ca n use the general directions below.

Wireless (802. 11) network setting s The followin g table describes the 802.11 wireless settings shown on the network configuratio n page. Paramete r Description Hardware Address (MAC) The Media Access Control (MAC) address that identifies the HP All- in-One.
Parameter Description NOTE: Check to see if a DNS IP address appears on the network configuration page. If no address is shown, obtain the DNS IP address from your Internet service provider (ISP). Wireless Status Status of the wireless network: • Connected : The HP All-in -One is connected to a wireless LAN and everything is workin g.
Paramete r Description Authentication type Type of authentication in use: • None : No authentication in use. • Open System (ad hoc and infrastr ucture): No authentication • Shared Key : WEP key is required. • WPA-PSK (infrastructure only): WPA with Pre-Shared Key.
Parameter Description Total Packets received The number of packets received by the HP All-in-One without error since it has been turned on. The counter clears after the HP All-in-One is turned off. Bluetooth setti ngs The following ta ble describes the Bluetooth settings sh own on the network configu ration page.
Ethernet The most common local network technology that co nnects computers using copper cabling. Ethernet cable The cable used to connect network elem ents in a wired network. The CAT-5 Ethernet cable is also known as a straight-through ca ble. When using an Ethernet cable, the network elements must be attached to a router.

6 Load originals and load paper You can load many differen t types and sizes of paper in the HP All-in-One, in cluding letter or A4 paper, l egal paper, photo pap er, transparencies, envelopes, and LightScribe- compatible C D/DVD.
3. Close the li d. Load an original in the Sl ide and Negative Film holder You can scan 35 mm sli des and negatives with the HP All -in-One using the Slide a nd Negative Fil m holder. After you scan slides or negatives, remove the slide or negative film from the holder, and then replace t he holder and lid backing on t he HP All-in-One.
3. Slide the negative fil m into the center of the holder so that the f ront of the image faces away from you and a ppears backward. 4. Place the holder on the glass so the side holding your negative is lined up agains t the right front co rner of the gl ass.
3. Place the slide on the ho lder so that the front of the image faces down and appears backward. Gently p ress down until it snaps into pl ace. NOTE: The slide must snap into pla ce for the image to scan properly. If the slide does not touch the gl ass the final scanned image might be blurry.
To remove the lid 1. Lift the lid to the open position, grasp the sides of the lid, and th en pull the lid upwards until it comes off. Do not unplug th e Slide and Negative Film ligh t power cord. It should stay connected to the back of the HP All-in -One.
HP Premium Plus Photo Paper HP Premium Plus Ph oto Papers are the best HP photo pap er, with image qualit y and fade resistance superior to store-processed photos. They are id eal for printing your high- resolution i mages for framing or including in a photo album.
HP All-in-One Paper or HP Printing Paper • HP All-in-One Pa per is specifically designed for HP All -in-One devices. It has an extra bright blue-white shade that produces shar per te xt and richer colors than ordinary multifunction papers. • HP Printing Pape r is a high-quality multif unction pape r.
Papers to avoid Using paper that is t oo thin or too thick, paper that has a slick text ure, or paper that stretches easily can cau se paper jams. Using pape r that has a heavy text ure or does not accept ink can cause p rinted images to smear, bleed, o r not fill in complete ly.
Load full-size pa per You can l oad many type s of letter, A4, or legal paper in to the main inp ut tray of the HP All- in-One. To load full-size p aper 1. Pull out the main input tray, and then slide t he paper-width and pap er-length guides to their outermo st positions.
4. Slide the paper-w idth and paper-length gui des inward until they stop at the edges of the paper. Do not overload t he main input tray; make sure th e stack of paper fits within the main input tray and is no higher than the top of th e paper-width guide.
To load up to 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) photo paper in the photo tray 1. Raise the output tray, and then pull out th e photo tray. 2. Insert the st ack of photo paper in to the photo tray w ith the short edge fo rward and the glossy side down. Slide the s tack of photo paper forward until it stops.
To load postcard s, Hagaki or index cards in the photo tray 1. Raise the outpu t tray, and then pull out the ph oto tray. 2. Insert the stack of cards into the photo tray with the short edge forward and t he print side down. Slid e the stack forward until it st ops.
To load envel opes 1. Pull out the main input tray, and then slide t he paper-width and pap er-length guides to their outermo st positions. 2. Remove all paper from the main input tray. 3. Insert one or more envelopes into the far-right side of th e main input tr ay with the envelope flaps up and on the left.
Load other type s of paper The followin g types of paper are designed for speci al projects. Create your p roject in the HP Photosmart Softw are or another application, set the pap er type and size, and then print.

7 Print from your computer The HP All-in-On e can be used with any software ap plication that all ows printing. You can print a range of proje cts, such as borderless imag es, newsletters, greeting cards, iron-on transfers, and posters.
Make the HP All-in-One the default printer You can set the HP All-in-O ne as the default printer to use f rom all software applica tions. This means that the HP All-in-One is automatically select ed in the printer list when you select Print f rom the File menu in a software application .

To print on both s ides of the page 1. Load paper into the input tray. 2. On the File menu in your softwa re application, click Print . 3. Make sure the HP All-in-One is the selected printer.
Print a multip le-page docume nt as a booklet The HP All-in -One allows yo u to print your docu ment as a smal l booklet, which you can fold and then st aple together. For best results, design your docume nt to fit on a multiple of four pa ges, such as an 8, 12, or 16-page progra m for a child's school play or for a wedding.

8. In the Page orde r list, click an appropriate page o rder option. The sample outp ut graphic is numbered to show how the page s will be ordered i f you select each option.
6. In the Layout Optio ns area, select Front to Ba ck in the Page Order opti on. NOTE: If you set your docume nt to print on both sides of the page, the Front to Back option is not availab le. Your document will automatically print i n the correct order.

Print a poster You can create a post er by printing a document on mu ltiple pages. The HP All -in-One prints dotte d lines on some pages to indicate where to trim the pages before taping them together. To print a poster 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in the in put tray.
To print a W eb page 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in the main input tray. 2. On the File menu in your Web browser, click Print . The Print dialog box appea rs. 3. Make sure the HP All- in-One is the selected printe r. 4. If your Web browser supports it, select the items on the We b page that you want to include in th e printout.
3. Double-click the HP All -in-One icon. TIP: You can also double-click the p rinter icon in the Window s taskbar. 4. Select the print job you want to cancel. 5. On the Document menu, click Cancel Prin ting or Cancel , or press the Delete key on your keyboard.
8 Use the photo features The HP All-in-One is equipp ed with memory card slots, a front USB port, and a C D/DVD drive that enable you to print or edit photos from a memory card, storage device (suc h as a keychain drive, portable ha rd drive, or a digital camera in storage mode), or a CD or DVD without uploading your photos t o a computer first.

CAUTION: Do not pull out the memory card or storage device w hile the Photo l ight is flashing. A flashing light means th e HP All-in-One is accessi ng the memory device.
To view and select photos 1. Insert a memory card into the appropriate slot on the HP All-in-One, connect a storage device to the front USB port, o r insert a CD/DVD (label side up) into the LightScribe drive. The Photosmart Expre ss menu appears, wi th the most recent photo shown on the display.
8. (Optional) If you want to check and/or modify any of your print settings, touch Settings . 9. To print th e photo(s), to uch Print or press the Print Photos button on the control panel. A print status screen displa ys the number of pages to print and the estimated tim e to complete.
3. Touch Print . The Print Layo ut screen appears. 4. Touch or to scroll through the layout options, then touch the print la yout you want: 4x6 5x7 The Select Photos scree n appears. 5. To create spec ial projects 1. Insert a memory card into the appr opriate slot on the HP All-in-One, connect a storage device to the front USB p ort, or insert a CD/DVD (label side up) int o the LightScribe drive. The Photosmart Express menu appea rs, with the most recent photo shown on the display.
• Wallets : Enables you to print your own walle t-size photos to carry with you or give to friends or relatives. • Passport Photos : Enables you to print your own passport-size photos. (If you have questions on guid elines or restrictions for passport photos, contact a local passport service agency.
To share photos 1. Insert a memory card into the appr opriate slot on the HP All-in-One, connect a storage device to the front USB p ort, or insert a CD/DVD (label side up) int o the LightScribe drive. The Photosmart Express menu appea rs, with the most recent photo shown on the display.
Save photos to your computer You can use the HP Photosm art Software installed on your comput er to transfer photos from a memory card, storage device , or CD/DVD to your computer’s hard drive for sharing photos online an d printing from your comp uter.
3. Touch Save to Computer . TIP: You can also transfer images from a m emory card to a connected USB storage device by choosing t he Save to USB driv e option, or you can burn your photos onto a CD /DVD loaded label sid e up in the CD/DVD drive by choo sing Save to CD/DVD .
To save your photos to a CD or DVD 1. Make sure a CD or DVD is inserted (label side up) in the LightScribe drive of the HP All-in-One. NOTE: If you plan to create a LightScrib e text label that you can print on the CD/ DVD, make sure the CD or DVD t hat you insert into the drive is a LightScribe d isc.
4. Use the visual keyboard to enter ti tles and subtitles th at identify your CD or DVD, and touch Do ne on the visual keyboard when you are fin ished. 5. In the Label Summary screen, touch Burn . At the printing status screen, touch Return to Main Menu to cont inue with an y non- disc tasks while d isc labeling continues in the background.
4. When the thumbna il of the photo you want to ed it appears, touch it . 5. When the select ed photo appears by itself on the display, touch the image or touch Options . The Options me nu appears. 6. Touch Edit . The Edit menu a ppears. 7. Touch Crop .

To print you r edited photo ▲ Touch the Back icon until yo u return to the View Photos screen, then touch Print . Apply speci al color ef fects to yo ur photos You can apply special color e ffects to a photo so that it prints wi th a sepia, hand-tinted, or black-and- white finish.
The selected color ef fect is applied to the pho to, and the photo is shown by it self on the display. To preview your ed ited photo ▲ Touch the Back icon unti l you return to the Options menu, then tou ch Print Preview . To print your edited photo ▲ Touch the Back icon unti l you return to the View Photos screen, then touch Print .
You can turn off the automatic photo enhancement feature for individual phot os, on a per- image basis. To turn off automati c photo enhancement 1. 9 Use the scan features Scanning is the process o f converting text and pictures into an electronic forma t for your computer. You can scan al most anything (photos, magazine art icles, film negatives, slides, and te xt documents) on the HP All -in-One.

12 Maintain the HP All-in-One The HP All-in -One requires l ittle maintena nce. Sometimes you mi ght want to clean the glass and lid backing to re move surface dust and ensure tha t your copies and scans remain clear. You will also ne ed to replace ink cartridges, clean the print head assembly, or align the print er from time to time.
Clean the l id backing Minor debris can accumulate on the white document backing locate d underneath the lid of the HP All-in-O ne. To clean the lid b acking 1. Turn off the HP All -in-One, and raise the lid. 2. Clean the whi te document backing with a so ft cloth or sponge slightly moiste ned with a mild soap and warm water.
To check the ink leve ls from the control panel 1. Touch Setup on the displa y. 2. Touch Tool s . 3. Touch Displ ay Ink Gauge . The HP All-in-On e displays a gauge that shows t he estimated ink levels of a ll cartridges installed. To check the ink leve ls from the HP Photosmart Software 1.
NOTE: If you are in stalling ink cartridges in th e HP All-in-O ne for the first tim e, be sure to use only the ink cartridges th at came with the device. The ink in these cartridges is specially f ormulated to mix with the ink in the pri nt head assembly at first- time setup .
4. Pull the ink cartridge toward you ou t of its slot to remove it. 5. Remove the new ink cartridge from its packaging, and then, holding it by the handl e, push the ink cartridge into the empty slot. Match the color and patte rn of the ink cartridge to the color an d pattern on the print carriage.

Borderless pri nting produces unexpected results Cause: Printing a b orderless image from a no n-HP software applicat ion produces unexpected results. Solution: Try printing the ima ge from the photo imaging software that came with the HP All-in -One.
Solution: If t he HP All-in-One is not properly conne cted to the computer, communication errors can occur. Make sure the USB cable is conne cted to the HP All- in-One and the com puter as shown below.
Solution: A print job might remai n in the queue after it has b een cancelled. The cancelled prin t job jams the queue and prevent s the next print job from printing. From your computer, ope n the printer folder and see if the can celled job remains in the print queue.
Cause: The computer is not communicati ng with the HP All-in-One. Solution: If t he HP All-in-One is not properly conne cted to the computer, communication errors can occur. Make sure the USB cable is conne cted to the HP All- in-One and the com puter as shown below.
Solution: Print the document in reverse order. When the document finishes printing, the page s will be in correct order. Cause: The paper is not feedin g properly or is loaded incorrectly. Solution: Make sure you have paper loaded correctly in the photo tray. Cause: There might be too much paper l oaded in the photo tray .
Solution: Wait until the drive has finished performi ng its operation, then try again. File messages The following is a list of file-related error messa ges: • Error reading or writin g the file • Unreadable files.
File not found Cause: There is not enough availabl e memory on your computer to create a print preview fi le. Solution: Close some ap plications and try the task again. File format not supported Cause: The HP All-in-One software did not recognize or support the file f ormat of the image you are trying to open or save.
If the file system on the card is corrupt, reformat the me mory card in your digital camera. CAUTION: Reformatting the memory card will de lete any photos stored on the card. If you have previously tra nsferred the photos from your memory card to a computer, tr y printing t he photos from the comput er.
Solution: Remove all but one memory card. The HP All -in-One reads the remaining memory card an d displays the first photo st ored on the memory card. Cause: You have inserted a Compact Flash mem ory card backwards or upside down. Solution: Remove the memory card and reinse rt it correctly.
Solution: Insert a memory card int o the appropriate slot on the HP All-in-One, connect a storage device to t he front USB port, or insert a C D/DVD label side up i n the LightScribe-en abled CD/DVD drive, and t hen try the task again. Card acces s error Cause: There are t wo or more memory cards insert ed into the HP All-i n-One at the same ti me.
Solution: Make sure you fully insert the memory card int o the appropriate slot on the HP All-in-One. If the memory card is no t inserted properly, the HP All-in-One will no t respond and the Photo light (ne ar the memory card slots) will not turn on.
Flip LightScr ibe disc Cause: The CD/ DVD is placed upside down in the drive, so you cannot copy pho tos to, or print a LightScribe te xt label on, the CD/DVD. Solution: Remove the CD/D VD from the drive, flip i t over before reinserting it, an d try again.
Solution: Leave th e sheet in the output tray until th e message disappears. If it is necessary to remove the printed sheet before th e message disappears, carefully hold the printed sheet on the unde rside or the edges, and place it on a flat surf ace to dry.
Wrong paper width Cause: The print setting chosen for the print job does not ma tch the paper loaded in the HP All- in-One. Solution: Change the print se tting or load the appropriate paper in the input t ray.
HP All-in-One not found Cause: This error applies only to USB-connected d evices. The USB cable is not plugged in prop erly. Solution: If t he HP All-in-One is not properly conne cted to the computer, communication errors can occu r. Make sure the USB cabl e is securely connected to the HP All-in-O ne and the computer, as shown be low.
Solution: If the HP Al l-in-One is not properly connected t o the computer, communicatio n errors can occu r. Make sure the USB cable is sec urely connected to the HP All-in-One an d the computer, as shown be low.
Calibration er ror Cause: An incorrect type of paper is loaded in th e input tray.
