1O v e r v i e w What is an embedded Web server? A Web server provides an en vironment in which Web programs can ru n, in much the same way that an operating system, such as Microsoft® Win dows®, pr ovides an environment in which programs can run on your computer.
● Receive alerts about product even ts, such as when the product is low on supplies, thro ugh e-mail. Set up four different destinati on lists for each user (administrators and service), with up to 20 recipients on each of th e four lists. ● Select the languag e in which to display the HP EWS screens.
NOTE You cannot view the HP EWS scre ens from outside of a firewall. 1. Open a suppor ted Web browser. 2. In the Address or Go to field, type the IPv4 or IPv6 TCP /IP address, the host name, or the configured host n ame that is assigned to the product.
Login and logoff The HP EWS has scree ns that can be used to view product information and change configur ation options. The screen s that appear, and the settings on th em, vary according to how you gain access to the HP EWS: as a general user, an information tec hnolo gy (IT) administrator, or a service provider.

2 Viewing product status from the HP EWS Information screens The screens availab le from the Information tab are for informational purposes o nly; you cannot configure the product from these screens. To co nfigure the product through the HP EWS, see Configuring the product fro m the Settings screens .
Device Status Use the Device Status screen to view the current status of the product. The following illustration and table describe how to use this screen.
Callout Area on the scre en Information or capability that the area provides 6 Media Shows the status and configuration informat ion for the input trays and output bins. The media status is OK until the tray is completely empty. When the tray is empty, the status is Out .
Configuration Page Use the Configuratio n Page screen to view current product setting s, help troubleshoot problems, and verify the installatio n of optional accessories such as dual inline memo ry modules (DIMMs). The following illustration and table de scribe how to use this screen.

Supplies Status The Supplie s Status screen shows more detailed supplies information and provides part numbers for genuine HP supp lies. (It is helpful to have the pa rt numbers available when ordering supplies.) Th e following illustration and table de scribe how to use this screen.

Event Log The Event Log screen shows the most recent produ ct events , including jams, service errors, and other printer errors. The following illustration an d table describe how to use this screen.
Usage Page The Usage Page screen gives a page count for each size of me dia that has passed through the produ ct, as well as the number of duplexed p ages. The total is calculated by multiplying the sum of th e print count values by the Units value. The information on this screen can be used to determine how much toner or paper to keep on hand.

Device Information The Device Information screen shows the following info rmation: ● Device name ● Device location ● Asset number ● Company name ● Contact person ● Product name ● Device model ● Device serial number The product name, device m odel, and device seri al number are ge nerated automatically.
Control Panel Snapshot The Control Pane l Snapshot screen shows the product control-panel display as if you were standing at the product. Because thi s view shows the produc t status, it can help y ou troubleshoot pr oblems with the product. NOTE The appearance of the screen might vary, depending on your produ ct.
Color Usage Job Log Use the Color Usage Jo b Log to vi ew usage details for the printer. The following illustration and table describe how to us e the Color Usage Job Log screen.
Print NOTE The Print screen (and the Print menu on the left) is available only if it has been configured to appear on th e Secur ity screen under th e Settings tab. Use the Security screen to disable the Print screen if you do not want it to appear for security reasons.

3 Configuring the product from the Settings screens Use the screens on the Settings tab to configure the prod uct from your com puter. Configure Device You can use the Configure Device screen to print device informa ti on pages and configure the device remotely.

Tray Sizes/Types Use the Tray Sizes/Types screen to assign paper sizes and paper types for each tray on the product. The following ill ustration and table describe how to use this screen.
E-mail Server Use the E-mail Server screen to configure e-mail settings for outgoing e-mail. Use the settin gs on this screen to send and re ceive e-mail messages, including product alerts. The fo llowing illustration, table, and procedures describe how to use this screen.
Configuring outgoing e-mail You must configure ou tgoing e-mail if you intend to use the Alerts or AutoSend features. 1. Gather the following information. (Yo ur organiza tion's network or e-mail administrator typically provides the information th at is re quired to configure outg oing mail.
Alerts From the Alert s screen, IT administrators can set up the pr o duct to send problem and status alerts to anyone through e- mail messages. When this function is configured, alerts are automatical ly triggered about supplies, pap er-path status, and other service an d advisory information.

Using the Alerts screen with a product You can set up four different lists, with up to 20 recipients on each list. The Alerts - setup screen that appears when you cli ck either Edit or New Destination List looks similar to the following illustration.

To configur e alerts 1. Do one of the fo llowing: ● To create a new d estination list, click New Destination List . -Or- ● To modify an exi sting destination list, click Edit next to the list that you want to modify. The Alerts - setup screen appears.

3. The return address is the product's e-m ail address . Type your e-mail address in the Return Address box if you would like to receive messages ab out any errors that are ge nerated from the test alert (for example, to be notifi ed of an incorrect destination address).

Before following th e steps outlined here, you must have comple ted the following steps: 1. Install the Microsoft LD P tool. 2. Discover the LDAP serve r. 3. Set up LDP. After you have performe d these steps, perf orm the steps in the following section, Initializing Kerberos authentication .
c. Find the device user e- mail address in the LDP trace. Copy the at tribute defining the e-mail address, and paste it into the Retrieve the de vice user’s e-mail address using attribute of field. Some Kerberos environ ments require very specif ic attributes.
3. Under the Acces sing to LDAP Server section, perform the f ollowing steps: a. Select Kerberos fr om the LDAP Server Bind Method drop-down menu. NOTE The LDAP Ser ver Bind Methods on the Addressing Settings an d Kerberos Authentication screen s must match for Kerberos au thentication to work properly.
Device PIN Authentication If PIN Authentication is selected for one or more Device Functions on the Authentication Manager page, the user will be prompted fo r a PIN before th ey can access those Device Functions. If the PIN is entered incorrectly the user will be returned to the previous screen.
User PIN Authentication The User PIN Authentication page enables you to add user PIN records into th e device one at a time, and to edit or delete user PIN records that have already be en saved in the device. You can also use the device Import/Export feature to load a large list of users all at once, rather than adding them one at a time.
Figure 3 -13 User PIN Authentication screen Add New Users You can add a new user and PIN by clicking Add Ne w User.... This takes you to the Add User page, which has instructi ons for completing the task. Adding a ne w user To add a new user and PIN, do the following: 1.
4. Type the user PIN into the User Access PIN fi eld. It must be between 4 a nd 8 digits long. 5. If you want to add the new user's e-mail addre ss to the device address book, select the Add user to e-mail address bo ok automatically check box. 6.
Edit Other Links Use the Edit Other Links screen to add or customize up to five links to the Web sites of your choice (see the following no te). These links ap pea r throughout the HP EWS screens in the Other Links box beneath the left n avigational bar.

Device Information Use the Device Inform ation screen to provid e a name of your choice for th e device, assign an asset number, and con figure the company name, the perso n to contact about the device, a nd the physical location of the device. Th e device name, device model , and serial number are also availa ble on this screen.
Language Use the Language screen to select the language in wh ich the HP EWS screens appear. The following illustration and table describe how to use this screen. Figure 3-16 Languag e screen CAUTION Selecting View Pages in Device Language or Select A La nguage changes the language for everyon e who uses the HP EWS.
NOTE The default langua ge is the language that th e Web browser is currently using. If your browser and control panel both use a language that is not available for the HP EWS, English is selected as the defa ult. If you make any changes on the La nguage screen, click Apply to save your changes.
Date & Time Use the Date & Time screen to update the prod uct time. The following illust ration and table describe how to use this screen. Figure 3-17 Date & Time screen Table 3- 12 Date &.
Date/Time Format Use the Date/Time Format screen to select the formats you prefer for displaying the date (under Date Format ) and time (under Time Format ).

NOTE This process keeps th e cloc k from drifting (losing or gaining time), but do es not synchronize the clo ck with th e network time server clock.
Wake Time An IT administrator can use the Wake Time screen to schedule product wakeups on a daily basis. For example, the pro duct can be set to wake up at 07:30, so the product has finished initializin g and calibrating and is ready t o use by 08:00.
Restrict Color Use the Restrict Color screen to restrict color printing. You can restrict color printing for all users or for specific users or specif ic applications.

4 Setting the digital sending options Administrators can use the screens avail able from the Digital Se nding tab to control the digital-sending features that some pro ducts offer. NOTE Some products do no t supp ort all of these screens. General Settings Use the General Settings screen to set digital-sen ding administrator information.

Send to Folder Use the Send to Folder screen to send scanned docu ments to shared folders or FTP sites. NOTE The shared folders or F TP sites must be operational before using this tool to add them as destinations. The following i llustration and table describe how to use the Send to Folder screen.

Removing a predefined folder Follow these steps to remove a predefined folde r from the device: 1. Select a folder from the Prede fine d Folders list by clicking on it. 2. Click Remove... and click OK to confirm. The sele cted folde r destination will be removed from the device.
E-mail Settings The product requires a Simple Ma il Transfer Protocol (SMTP) ga teway server to forward e-mail messages to a destination. If the SMTP gateway is not resp onding or has not been configured , the following messag e appears on the screen: 0.

E-mail Address Book An e-mail address book is a list of e-mail addresse s that are stored on the device. The address bo ok can store frequently-u sed e-mail addresses so that you can qui ckly choo se the right e-mail address when sending a d ocument from the front panel of the device.
Adding an e-ma il address To add a new e-mai l address, do the following: 1. Click Add E-mail Address.... The Add E-mail Address page appears. 2. Type the person's na me in the Name field. The name i s what appears in the list o n the device control panel when a use r is searching for an e-mail address.
Fax Settings The product can send scan ned documents to a fax nu mber to simulate the se nding capabilities of a fax machine. If the produ ct is equipped with a fa x modem, it can also be set up to process incoming faxes.

In the Print T30 Reports field , you can set the frequency with wh ich T30 reports are p rinted. T30 reports are detailed reports ab out the fax communication that occurs du ring the most recent fax transaction.
Fax Address Book A fax address book is a list of fax n umbers that are stored on the device . Th e address book can store frequently-used fax numbers so th at you can quick ly choose the right destination when faxin g a document from the front panel of the MFP de vice.
Adding a fax number To add a new fax number, do the following: 1. Click Add Fax Number.... The Ad d Fax Number page appears. 2. Type the pe rson's name in the Name field. The name is what appe ars in the list on the d evice control panel when a user is searching for a fax num ber.
Import/Export Use this page to impor t and export address book an d user information to and from the device. When you import data to the device, you add new e- mail addresses, fax numbers, or user records, so that they can be acce ssed on this device.

When the import pro cess is complete, a message appears i ndicating how many records were successfully importe d and whether there were any import errors.
6. Click Finish to finish the wizard and export the file. 7. To import the .CSV file into the device, follow Steps 4 an d 5 of the Import an addr ess book instructions. Export an address book You can also export the address book or user inform atio n that has been saved in the device.
Addressing Settings NOTE The LDAP protoco l is typically only used in corporate e- mail environments. If you a re using an ISP for e-mail services , HP recommends that you use the E-mail Address Book function. In order for the product to send scanned documents , you must provid e one or more destination address.

Using the HP DSS software The HP Color LaserJ et CM4730 MFP includes the Digit al Sending Software (HP DSS) which can be used to carry out its digital-sending tasks. If the HP DSS has been installed, all HP EWS Di gital Sending screens are available for read-only access.
5 Managing network operation from the Networking screens Overview Use the Networking screens to configu re and manage your produ ct on your network. The appearance and features of the scre ens available from the Netw orking tab differ, depending on the model and version of your HP Jetdirec t print server.
