Command line interface 9 C ommand line int erf ace Intr oducti on The HP GbE2c switch is ready to perform basic switching fu nctions right out of the box. Some of the more advanced features, however, require some administrativ e configuration before they can be used effectively.
Command line interface 10 To establish a console connection with the switch: 1. Connect the terminal to the console port using the null modem cable. 2. Power on the terminal. 3. Press the Enter key a few times on the terminal to establish the connection.
Command line interface 11 The supported SSH encryption and authen tication methods are listed below. • Server Host Authentication—Client RSA authenticate s the switch in the begin ning of every co.
Command line interface 12 Table 2 User access levels User account Description and tasks performed User The user has no direct responsibility fo r switch management. He or she can view all switch status information and statistics, but ca nnot make any configuration ch anges to the switch.
Command line interface 13 Ty p o g r a p h i c a l c o n v e n t i o n s The following table describes the typogr aphic styles used in this guide: Table 3 Typographic conventions Typeface or symbol Meaning Example AaBbCc123 This type depicts onscreen computer output and prompts.
Menu basics 14 Menu basi cs Intr oducti on The AOS CLI is used for viewing switch information and statistics. In addition, the administra tor can use the CLI for performing all levels of switch configuration. To make the CLI easy to use, the various commands have been logically grouped into a series of menus and submenus.
Menu basics 15 Global commands Some basic commands are recognized throughout the menu hierarchy. The se commands are useful for obtaining online Help, navigating through menus, and fo r applying and saving configuration changes. For help on a specific comma nd, type help.

Menu basics 17 C ommand line int erface shortc uts The following shortcuts allow you to enter commands quickly and easily. Command stacking As a shortcut, you can type multiple commands on a single line, separated by forward slashes (/). You can conne ct as many commands as required to a ccess the menu option th at you want.
First-time configuration 18 F irs t - time conf igur ati on Intr oducti on This chapter describes how to perform first-time configuration and how to change system passwords. To begin first-time configuration of th e swit ch, perform the following steps.
