2 Windows software description and installation Introduction The product comes with software and installers for Microsoft Windows and Apple Compu ter, Inc.
Install overview The printing-system software CD contains the product softwar e. The printing-system softw are can also be installed whe n the product is conn ected to the computer through Smart Install. For all supported operating systems, each install opti on presents a series of screens that guide you through the installation process.

HP LaserJet software components for Windows Installer The installer program in stalls the printer-system software ba sed on software components selected during the installation process. T here is an installer system check th at will verify if the operating system is supported by the installer.
Printer-driver version numb ers for Windows operating systems Access to printer-driver version numbers varies, dependi ng on the opera ting system in which the product is installed.
To gain access to the p rinter driver settings from within most software pr ograms, follow these steps: 1. Click the File menu. 2. Click the Print item. 3. Click the Properties button. The appea rance and names of the driver tabs can va ry, dependin g on th e operating system.
Printer Properties driver tabs This se t of tabs co ntrols the driver behavior and dr iver connection s. To gain access to the Printer Properties tabs, follow these steps: 1. In Windows 7, click the Start button, and then click the Devices an d Printers item.
NOTE: Constraint messages are limited, and the underlying software architecture might a ccept some settings that are illogical or impossible for the product to p erform. Sending a job with incompatible settings can lead to unexpected results. If print jobs do not print a s expected, check the product documentation for the product capabilitie s.
To resolve the conflict ing settings, click the Restore my previous setting s option, and then click the OK button. The driver resets th e conflic ting control back to its previous state. If you want to keep the conflicting setting, click the Keep this setting, and I will change it later option, and then click the OK button .

Advanced Printing Features When the Advanced Printing Featu res setting is Enabled , metafile spooling is turn ed on and Finis hing tab options such as Page Orde r , Booklet Layo ut , and Pages per Sheet ar e available, depending on the product.

Use the Paper/Quality tab to specify paper size, type, and source. You can also use this tab to specify different paper selections for the front cover, first page, other p ages, last page, and back cover of the docu ment. The following figu re shows the Paper/Quality tab.
● Paper type ● Special pages Paper sizes The Paper sizes setting is a drop-down menu that lists all of the supported paper sizes. When you move the mous e over the dimensions lab e l, the mouse cursor changes from an arrow to a gloved hand. Click the dimensions label to to ggle between Engli sh and metric units.
If you type a new name into the Name text box, bu t then do not click Save , you can change the width and height va lues without losing the name. Ho wever, if you close the dia log box without cli cking Save , any unsaved nam e or size values a re lost without warning.
Paper type The Paper type drop-do wn menu shows the first few p aper types that the product su pports and an entry for More . Clicking More open s the Type Is dial og box. Click the + next to Type Is and its subcategories to view all of the paper types th at the product supports, listed in the follo wing categories.

Print document on Click the Print document on o ption to format the do cument for one paper size and then print the document on a different paper size , with or without scaling the im age to fit the new pape r size. The Print document o n control is disabled by either of the following conditions: ● The % of actual size value is not 100.
The following setting s disable % of actual siz e : ● Print document on (on the Effe cts tab) is selected ● Pages per sheet (on the Finishing tab) is not 1 Document preview ima ge The document preview image is a line-drawn image of a page that rep resents graphics and text.
Watermarks are applied to logical pages. For examp le, when Pages per shee t is set to "4 " and First page only is turned off, four watermar ks appear on the p hysical page (one on ea ch logical page). Click Edit , and the Watermark De tails dialog box appears.
Message Angle Use the controls in the Message An gle group box to print the watermark in differ ent orientations on the page. All setting s center the watermark string with in the page; the sele ction of a particular setting affects only the angle of the string placement.
◦ Medium ◦ Medium dark ◦ Dark ◦ Very dark ◦ Darkest These values represen t the intensity of th e gray that is used. Sele ct Light to produce a lightly saturated gray wa termark. Select Lightest to pr oduce the lightest sh ade of watermark. S elect Darkest to produce a black watermark.
Finishin g tab features NOTE: The Finishing ta b is located on th e Printing Preferences tab set. For informat ion about how to access these tabs, see Printing Preferences driver tabs on page 15 . Use the Finishing tab to print b ooklets and con trol the pa per output.

pages per sh eet, the booklet setting is disab led. See Pages per sheet on page 44 for more information. Book and Booklet Printing The HP LaserJet Pro 300 color MFP M375 and HP LaserJet Pro 400 colo r MFP M475 supports book and booklet printin g. A book is a print job consisting of at least two pages.
● 6 pages per sheet ● 9 pages per sheet ● 16 pages per s heet NOTE: When you select an option othe r than 2 pag es per sheet , boo klet printing is unavail able. Related controls in dented beneath Pages per Sheet are Print page bord ers and Page o rder , which become active when Pages per sheet is greater than 1.
NOTE: Nearly all software programs establish the orientation for the printed page , so the page orientation in the driver is useful only fo r the few software p rograms that do not se t an orientation. The Orien tation group box contain s the following options: ● Portrait .
● Color Option s ● Color Themes ● Document preview image ● HP EasyColor NOTE: Color Options and Color Themes settings are onl y available when HP EasyColor is not selected. Color Options Use the Color Options group box to adj ust the independent color con trols.
● Graphics ◦ Neutral Grays ● Photographs ◦ Neutral Grays Edge Control The Edge Control setting d etermines how edges are rend er ed, to prevent a gap or white line on a colored backg round. Edge Control has two componen ts: adaptive halftoning and trapping.
Color Themes The Color Th emes group box contains th e following RGB color options, which determines how colors are re ndered: NOTE: To activa te the Colo r Themes controls, clear the HP EasyColor check box.
Document preview ima ge The document preview image is a line-drawn image of a page that rep resents graphics and text. The document preview image i s always oriented so that th e contents of the pag e are right-side-u p.

Device Settings tab features NOTE: The Device Settings tab is located on the Printer Properties tab set. For information about how to access these tabs, see Printer Properties driver tabs on page 16 , Available options de pend on the feature. The fol lowing figure shows the Device Settings tab.
The trays listed in the Form to Tray Assign ment setting in clude standard trays and optional accessory trays. Gene rally, items that ar e installed separa tely have a separate Installable Options setting. The input trays listed here are also liste d as paper sources on the Paper/Quality tab.
6. Click Properties . The HP Font Installer dialog box appears. 7. Type the name and path of t he fo nt metric file in the Prin ter Font File Location text box, or click Browse to locate the file on the co mputer. The font file names a ppear in the Font(s) to be Added window.
Automatic Configuration The feature auto matically updates the registry and changes the configura tion information that appears on the Device Settings tab.
Figure 2 -11 About tab The Abou t tab lists driver installation file names and their version numbers. The About tab also indicates whether th e driver was auto configured, whether administra tor preferences w ere set, the date the driver was last con figured, and whethe r the configuration is au toconfigured or user- configured.
Enterprise Auto Configuration Enterprise AutoConfiguratio n (EAC) uses bidirect ional communication to provide aut oconfiguration functionality fo r installation of th e print driver over a netw ork, w hether you use the installe r on the printing-system software CD or the Add Printer Wizard to install the driver.

For example, if th e product is installed and an optional pape r-handling accessor y is added later, u se the Update Now feature to quer y the product an d update the settings to matc h the new prod uct configuration. The feature auto matically updates the registry and changes the configura tion information that appears on the Device Settings tab.
HP UPD Driver C onfiguration con figures the driver to match the accessories th at are installed on the product, or to match the settings th at IT administrators make in th e configuration (.CFG) file (for example, op tional trays, to tal amount of memo ry, job-storage settings , or mopier se ttings).

3. Read the license agre ement, click the I have reviewed and acce pt the installation agreements check box, and then click the Next button to continue.. 5. Select a connection type option on the Connection Type screen, based o n how the prod uct connects to the computer. NOTE: If you are installing a base unit (which do es not have a network con nection option), this screen does not appear. Proceed to the next step.
▲ Connect the pro duct to the computer when prompted at the Connect th e Product screen. The installer program opens a prog ress bar as it automatically starts the software installation.

Use the software CD to re move the product software The installer program on the software CD includes a utility to remove the product software 1. Insert th e printing system s oftware CD in to the CD-ROM drive.

Remove the printer driver by using the Windows Add or Remove Programs feature If the printer driver was installed by the HP Driver Installation Utilit y (HP DIU), perform the following to uninstall the driver: NOTE: You do not need the printing -system so ftwar e CD to use t his uninsta ll method.
