Install the battery 1. Open the Battery/M emory card door by sliding t he latch as indicated on the Battery/ Memory card door. 2. Insert the battery in the larger slot, push ing the battery in until the latch catches. 3. Close the Battery/Memory card door.

Note Once you install a me mory card, all new i mages and video clips are stored on the card, rather than i n internal memory. About the HP Photosmart Software The CD that came w ith your camera contains the fo llowing versions of HP Photo smart Software: ● HP Photosmart Premier Soft ware (for Windows XP and x64 systems with at least 128MB of RAM).
2 Taking pictures and recording video clips Live View allo ws you to frame pictures and vi deo clips in the Imag e Display. To activat e Live View , press until appears briefly in the up per right corner of the Image Display. The Live View di splay looks like t his: 1 Shooting mode indicato r.
Recording video clips 1. Press until appears briefly in the upper right corner o f the Image Di splay. This indicates you are in Live View . 2. Frame the subj ect. 3. Press and release the Video butto n. 4. To stop re cording video, press and release the Video button again.
When you press the Shutter butto n halfway down, the camera focuses from the closest distance, then examines other fo cus regions, displayi ng those in focu s as green brackets.
3. Hold the Shutter button halfwa y down and re- frame. 4. Press the Shutter button all the way dow n to take the picture. Optimizing exposure When you press the Shutter butt on halfway down, the camera also measures the light level to set the proper exp osure.
Auto Macro —Use wh en you are not sure if the subject is i n the Macro or Normal focus range. Infinity —Use when taking pictu res of distant objects and landscapes. The focus range setti ng remains in effect until it i s changed again, or you turn off the camera.
Note Digital zoom is not available i n Panorama mode nor when recordin g video clips. Setting the flash To select a flash setting, press , use to highlight the desired flash mode, t hen press . Auto Flash (Default)—The camera uses the flash, if nece ssary.
To select a shooting mode, press while in Live View , use to high light a shooting mode, then press . Auto Mode (Default)— For taking good shots quickly, when you do not have time to select a speci al shooting mode. Landscape — For scenes with deep perspecti ve, such as mo untain scenes.

Video Quality —Sets resolution and compressi on for video clips. The fewer stars, the greate r the compression. ● Normal (VGA ) (Default)—For outdoor action video clips or printing individu al video frames up to 10.2 by 15 .2 cm (4 by 6 in). ● VGA —For indoor video clips or printing indi vidual video frames up to 7.
● ISO 200 —F or lower light conditions. ● ISO 400 —For lo wer light conditio ns and/or action whe n short shutter speeds are desired. Saturation —Controls the satu ration of colors in your pictures. ● Low —Mutes colors to give a sof ter, more natural look to the subject.
6. The camera counts d own the time delay you selected, then take s the still image or begins recording the vide o clip. If you chose 2 Shots an d are taking a sti ll image, the camera takes the second st ill image a few seconds aft er the first. 7. If you are recording a vid eo clip, press the Video button to stop recording.
Adaptive Lighting This setting bala nces the relationship be tween bright an d dark areas in a pict ure, preserving gentle contrast s while reducing harsh cont rasts. When used wi th a flash, Adaptive Lighting can bri ghten areas that a fl ash wouldn’t reach.

Magnifying images This feature is f or viewing purposes only; it does n ot permanently al ter the image. 1. While in Playback , press (same as Zoom In on the Zoom l ever ). The currently displayed image is magnified 2x. 2. Use and to pan around the magnifi ed image.
Viewing image informatio n The Im age Info screen shows the se ttings used when capturing the currently displaye d image or video cl ip. 1 ISO Speed . 2 Non-default shoo ting mode (see U sing the shootin g modes on page 16 ), Flash (see Setting the flash on page 16 ), and Focus sett ing (see Using the focus range settings on page 14 ).
Stitching panoramas When an image from a panoramic sequence is displaye d and you select Stitch Panorama , the cam era displays a stitched view of t he panoramic sequence . Note Stitching on -camera will result in a smaller image than if y ou stitched when transferring to a computer .
4 Using the Design Gallery Menu You can use the Design Gallery features to enhance your capture d images. 1. While in Playback , use to scroll to an image, t hen press . 2. Use to highlight t he Design Galle ry Menu tab. 3. Use to highlight an opt ion, then press and follow the o n-screen instructions.
– Solarize —Creates a partial reversal of tones and emp hasizes outlines. – Drawing —Creates a pencil draw ing using the edges in th e image. 3. Press to select the artistic effect an d display the creative sub-m enu. Follow the on-scre en instructions to adj ust the artist ic effect.
– Rounded Rectangle — Uses a rectangle with soft corners fo r the matte border. – Square —Adds a square m atte border with bevel ed edges. 3. Press to select the border and displa y the creative sub-menu. Follow the on-scre en instructions to adjust the border.
When you print, the normal aspect rati os get cropped on the top and bottom (landscape) or on the sides (po rtrait). Cropping he lps ensure that t he content you want gets printe d. 3. Press to save a copy o f the cropped image and return to the Design Galler y Menu .
5 Transferring and printing images You can transfer im ages and video cl ips with or wit hout the HP Phot osmart Software that came with your camera. However, t he HP Photosmart Sof tware has several features for transferring and manag ing your images and al so guides you through the transfer process.
Connecting to the comp uter 1. Turn off the ca mera. 2. Connect the cam era and computer using th e USB cable that came with your ca mera, then turn on the camera. – On Windows computers, the camera appears as a device i n Explorer, allowing you to copy images from th e camera to the computer.
1. Check that the pri nter is turned on, the re is paper in the print er, and there are no printer error messages. 2. Verify that the camera's USB Configuration is set to Digital Camera (see USB Configur ation under Using the Set up Menu on page 41 ).
6 Using HP Photosmart Express With HP Photosma rt Express , you can select sti ll images in your camera t o print automatically (see Marking images for printing on page 37 ), to buy prints online (see.
Tagging images as Favorites Tagging an imag e as a Favorite allows you to quickly print, share, or bu y prints online for the group of imag es tagged as Favori tes . 1. While in Pl ayback , use t o display an image you want to tag as a Favorite , then press .
3. If you want to pr int more than one copy, high light Change Number of Copies , then press . In the Print sub-menu for changin g the number of copies, use to specify the number of copies to prin t, then press .
Setting up onli ne destin ations in the camera You can specify up to 34 custom d estinations (such as in dividual e-mail ad dresses or group distribution lists) in the Photosmart Express Menu . 1. Verify that your computer is con nected to the Internet.
4. When you are done marking i mages to share, press . 5. To send the ima ges to the destinatio ns you selected, verify tha t the computer is connected to the Internet, then conne ct the camera to the computer using the US B cable tha t came with your camer a and turn on th e camera.
7 Using the Setup Menu The Setup Menu allows you to set preference s for the camera’s behavior. 1. While in Live View or Playback , press , then use to highlig ht . 2. Use to highlight a menu option , then press to display the menu option’s sub-menu.
TV Configur ation —Sets the video signal format for displa ying camera images on a TV. ● NTSC —Used primarily in North America, parts of South America, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. ● PAL —Used primarily in Europe, Uruguay, Parag uay, Argentina, and parts of Asia.

I have to recharge the Li thium Ion battery freque ntly. ● See Extending battery life on page 50 . ● A battery that i s new or has not b een charged recently must be recharg ed to reach full capaci ty. ● If you have not used the batt ery for two months or longer, rech arge it.
The Image D isplay is not working. ● The Image Display may have ti med out. Press any camera butto n to wake up the camera. ● Replace or recharge the batt ery.
My image is grainy. ● Add indirect lightin g, use the flash (see Setting the flash on page 16 ), or wait for natural light ing conditions to improv e. ● Use a lower ISO S peed setting (see ISO Speed under Using the Capt ure Menu on page 18 ). ● You may have zoomed in t oo far using digital zo om (see Digital zoom on page 15 ).

A Managing batteries Your camera uses a rechargeable HP Photosmart R07 L ithium Ion battery (L1812A/L1812B). Top points about batteries Always insert the battery in the camera corr ectly (see Install the battery on page 7 ). If the batter y is inserted improperly, the compartment door may close but the camer a will not operate.
● Immediately discontinue use of the battery if, wh ile using, charging, or storing the battery, the battery emits an unusual smell, feels excessively hot (note that it is normal for the ba ttery to feel warm), changes color or shape, or appears abnormal in any other way.
For Minimum, Maximum, and Average numbers, four pi ctures are taken p er session with at least a 5 minute break between sessions. In addition: ● The minimum number of shots is obtained with extensive use of Live View (30 seconds per picture), Playback (15 seconds per picture), and Flash On .
● Do not operate the camera, dock, or quick recharger if the Lithium Ion battery appears damaged. ● Do not disassemble the camera, dock, or quick recharger. ● Unplug the HP AC power adapter or qu ick rechar ger from the electrical outlet before cleaning the power adapter or quick rechar ger.
