Disconnect the WLAN antenna cables (1) from the terminals on the WLAN module. NOTE: The #1 WLAN antenna cable is connected to t he WLAN module #1 terminal.

Remove the keyboard: 1. Remove the Phillips PM2.5×4.0 s crew that secure s the keyboard to the computer. 2. Rest and secure the computer on its left side.
4. Insert a screw driver o r similar thin tool into th e keyboard release hole, and the n press on the back of the keyboard until the keyboard disengages from the computer.
7. Release the zero in sertion force (ZIF) connector (1) to which the keyboa rd cable is attac hed, and then disconnect the keybo ard cable (2) from the system board.

4. If it is necessary to replace the optical drive bezel, use a thin tool or an unbent paper clip (1) to release the optical drive tray. 5. Use a flat-blade sc rew driver or similar tool to pr ess on the optical drive bezel ta b (2) to release the optical drive bezel.

3. Remove the hard drive compartment cover (3) by sliding it away from the computer at an angle. The hard drive compartment c over is av ailable in the Co ver Kit, spare part number 68627 2-001. 4. Disconnect the hard drive connect or cable (1) from the system board, and then release the cable from the clip (2) built into the base enclosure.
7. If it is necessary to disassemble the hard driv e, perform the followin g steps: a. Remove the fo ur Phillip s PM3.0×3. 0 screws (1) that secure the hard drive bracket to the hard drive. b. Remove the hard drive bracket (2) from the hard drive. c.
RTC battery Description Spare part number RTC battery 686274-001 Before removing the RTC battery, follow these step s: 1. Turn off the computer. If yo u are unsure whether the comp uter is off or in Hibernation, tu rn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
Reverse this procedure to install the RTC battery. When inst alling the RTC battery, make sure the “+” sign faces up. Top cover Description Spare part number Top cover (includes the TouchPad board) 686283-001 Before removing the top cover, follow these s teps: 1.
2. Remove the four Phillips PM 2.0× 2.5 screws on the rear edge of the battery bay and in the hard drive bay that secure the top cover to the computer. 3. Remove the four Phillips PM2.5×4. 0 screws on the front edge of the battery bay and near the hard drive connector t hat secure the top cover to the computer.
7. Release the ZIF connecto r to which the Touc hP ad butto n board ca ble is connecte d, and then disconnect the Tou chPad button bo ard cable (2) fr om the system bo ard. 8. Remove the Phillips PM2.0×2.5 scr ew (1) and the three Phillips PM2.5×6.5 screws (2) that secure the top cov er to the computer.

Display assembly NOTE: The displa y assembly is spared a t the subcomponent level only. For more disp lay assembly spare part information, see t he individual remov al subsections. Before removing the display asse mbly, follow these steps: 1. Turn off the computer.
2. Release the wirel ess antenna cables (2) from the clips and routing ch annel built into the base enclosure. CAUTION: Support the display assembly when remo ving the following sc rews. Failure to support the display assembly can result in d amage to the display assembly and other computer components.
4. Remove the disp lay assembly (2) . 5. If it is necessary to replace the display be zel or any of the display assembly subcomponents: a. Remove the two display bezel screw covers (1) and th e two Phill ips PM2. 5×5.5 sc rews (2) that secure the display bezel to the display assembly.
c. Remove the display bezel (6) . The display bezel is available using spare p art number 686255-001. 6. If it is necessary to replace the di splay hinge covers: a. Remove the two Phillips PM2.5×4.0 screws (1) that secure the display hinge covers to the display enclosure.
7. If it is necessary to re place the di splay panel: a. Release the display panel cabl e (1) from the clips built into the bottom edge of the display enclosure. b. Remove the fo ur Phillip s PM2.5×4. 0 screws (2) that secure the display panel to the display enclosure.
f. Disconnect the display panel cable (3) from the display panel. g. Remove the display panel. The display pa nel is available usi ng spare part number 686273-001. 8. If it is necessary to re place the displa y hinges: a. Remove the six Phillips PM2.0×3.
b. Remove the display hinges (2) . The display hinges are available u sing spare part number 686262-001. 9. If it is necessary to replace the di splay panel cab le: a. Detach the display pa nel cable (1) from the display enclosure. (The display panel cable is attached to the display encl osure with doub le-sided tape in multiple locations.
c. Remove the display panel cable (3) . The display panel cable is available using sp are part number 686256-001 an d includes the webcam/microphone cable.
10. If it is necessary to repl ace the webcam /microphone m odule, gently de tach the webcam / microphone module from the disp lay enclosure. (The web cam/microphone module is atta ched to the display en closure with double-sid ed tape.) The webcam/mi crophone m odule is av ailable u sing spare part number 686285-001.
c. Remove the wireless a ntenna cables and transc eivers (3) . The wireless antenna cables and transceivers are available using spare part number 686249 -001.
3. Remove the power connector bracket (3) . 4. Remove the power connector cable (4) . Reverse this procedure to install the power connector ca ble. 76 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement p rocedures.
5 Using Setup Utility (BIOS) and System Diagnostics Setup Utility, or Basic Input /Output System (BIOS) , controls communication between all the input and output device s on the system (such a s disk drives , display, keyboard, mouse, and printer).
Determining the BIOS version To determine whether available BIOS updates contain later BIOS versio ns than those currentl y installed on the computer, you need to know the vers ion of the system BIOS currently installed.
3. Using the hard drive path you reco rded earlier, open the f older on your hard drive tha t contains the updat e. 4. Double-click the file tha t has an .exe exte nsion (for example, filename.exe). The BIOS installation begins. 5. Complete the installation by foll owing the on-screen in structions.

7 Backup and recovery Your computer inclu des tools provided by the op erating system and HP to help you safeguard you r information an d restore it if n ecessary.
Creating recovering media HP recommends that you create ei ther a set of recove ry discs or a rec overy fl ash drive to be sure that you can restore your computer to its original factory state if the hard drive fails, or if for any re ason you cannot restore using the recovery partition tools.
Performing a system restore HP Recovery Manager software allows you to repair or restore the comp uter to its original factory stat e. HP Recovery Manager works from recovery discs or a recovery flash drive, or from a dedicated recovery partition (select models only) on the hard drive.
Restoring using th e recovery media 1. If possible, back up all personal files. 2. Insert the fir st recovery disc in to the opti cal driv e on your compu ter or an op tional ex ternal optical drive, and then restart the computer. – or – Insert the recovery flash drive into a USB port on your computer, and then restart the computer.
Backing up and recovering your information It is very important to back up your files and keep any new software in a safe place. As you add new software and data files, continue to create backups on a regular basis. How completely you are ab le to recover your system depends on how recent your backup is.
