Getting Started 29 T o install the battery Align the battery ’ s exposed copper contacts with the battery connectors at the bottom part of the battery compartment. Inser t the contacts side of the battery first and then gently push the battery into place.
30 G etting Started 1.4 Charging the Batt er y New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before y ou start using your phone, it is recommended that you install and char ge the battery. Some batteries perform best after several full charge/discharge cycles.

36 G etting Started 1.9 Start S creen The Start screen gives you one-touch access to the prog rams and settings of your phone. T o open the Start screen, tap Start ( ) at the top left corner of the screen, or press the ST ART button ( ). On the Start screen: Swipe your finger up or down to scr oll through the screen.

38 G etting Started 1.11 Adjusting the V olume A single volume control adjusts both the sy stem volume (notifications and audio/ video playback volume) and the phone ring volume of y our phone. Press the VOLUME UP/DOWN button on the left panel of your phone to open the V olume screen.

40 G etting Started 1.13 Using the Z oom Bar The Zoom bar located belo w the touch screen is a handy zoom control that is a unique f eature of your phone. When you are viewing a Web page in the W eb browser or a photo in Album, y ou can zoom in or out by sliding your finger acr oss the Zoom bar .
Getting Started 41 Disk Drive This mode is available f or selection only when you installed a microSD card on your phone. Select this mode when you want to use your st orage card as a USB thumb drive, and copy files betw een your phone’ s storage car d and your computer faster .

If you have locked the phone with a passwor d, you will be prompted f or the password when y ou unlock the phone. See “Prot ecting your phone with a password” in Chapter 13.

Chapter 2 Using Phone F eatures 2.1 Making Calls T o make a call, you can either dial a number or select a contact you want to call. While viewing a received message , you can also directly call the sender of the message. Note Most SIM cards are preset with a PIN (personal identification number) tha t is provided by your mobile operator .

Y ou can also call a phone number that is contained in the body of the message.
48 Using Phone Features Making an international call Press and hold the number 0 key on the Phone scr een until the plus (+) sign appears. The plus (+) sign r eplaces the international prefix of the c ountry that you are calling . Enter the full phone number you want t o dial, and press the T ALK/SEND button on your phone.

50 Using Phone Features During a call When a call is in progress , a shade covers the call function buttons to pr event accidental taps. Only the K eypad and End Call buttons ar e active. T o access the call function buttons, tap the top of the shade and slide it down.
Using Phone F eatures 51 T o set up a conferenc e call Make a call to the first conferenc e call participant. When connected, slide down the shade , tap , and then dial the number of the second participant. T he first participant is put on hold when you dial the second participant.

Using Phone F eatures 53 2.4 Speed Dial Use Speed Dial to call frequently-used numbers with a single tap . F or example, if you assign a contact to the location 2 in Speed Dial , you can press and hold the number 2 key on the Phone screen keypad to dial the contact’ s number .
54 Using Phone Features 2.5 V ideo Call Y our phone lets you make video calls when you are within a 3G network cov erage area. Y ou need to use a 3G-enabled SIM card and activate the video calling service on your call plan to make video calls.
Using Phone F eatures 55 Changing the video call settings While on a video call, you can change certain settings such as the size and brightness of the image, and the camera to use . 1 Displays your image and the other party's image, depending on the selected Swap View setting.

Using the Home Screen 61 3.2 Home The Home tab displays a digital clock, the current dat e, and an alarm icon that indicates whether the alarm clock is on or off . Upcoming calendar appointments are also shown on the Home tab . Open the appointment details screen to view , edit, or delete the appointment.
62 Using the Home Screen This is your local time. T o change the local time to another city , select the button before the city name. The time in selected cities. Add another city . Return to the Home tab. Remove or rearrange the cities, or adjust the local time.
Using the Home Screen 63 Alarm Clock On the Home tab, tap the clock, and then tap the Alarm Clock tab ( ) to open the Alarm Clock screen. Y ou can set up to three alarms on this tab . T ap an alar m time to open the Set Alarm screen and set the time and days on which to sound the alarm.

82 Using the Home Screen 3.11 Photos and Videos The Photos and V ideos tab lets you flip through y our photos and video clips and view them in full screen. F rom this tab , you can also open Camera and capture pictures and record videos . T ap the photo or video to view or play it in full screen.
Using the Home Screen 83 Setting a favorit e album The Photos and V ideos tab displays pictures and video files from the curr ent favorite album. By default, the Camera Shots album which st ores the photos and videos that you captured using the Camer a is set as the favorite album.
84 Using the Home Screen 3.12 Music The Music tab allows you t o visually browse thr ough albums and music tracks and play music. The albums and music tracks that you see on the Music tab are from the Now Playing list of the Library . Go to the previous album or the previous track in the current album.

Chapter 6 Ex changing Messages 6.1 T ext Messages Send short tex t messages (SMS) to other mobile phones. If your message ex ceeds 160 characters, your text message is deliver ed as one but will be billed as more than one message. 110 Exchanging Messages Managing text messages in your Inbo x T ext messages that are sent to and received fr om a contact or number are grouped as a single thread in your Inbox. Threaded SMS shows your messages to and fr om a contact in a single conversation thr ead.

112 Exchanging Messages 6.2 Multimedia Messages Sending multimedia messages (MMS) to your friends and family is fun and easy . Y ou can include pictures, videos, and audio clips in a multimedia message. Notes • Multimedia messaging is a charged service and has to be provisioned on your mobile phone account.
