4 Package Contents 1 x GCS1802 [GCS1804] KVMP Switch 2 x Custom 6 ft USB KVM Cable sets with the GCS1802, or 4 x Custom USB KVM Cable sets with the GCS1804 (2x 4ft and 2x 6ft) 1 x USB-to-PS/2 keyboard.

T wo 4ft USB cables and two 6ft USB cables are provided with the GCS1804. Both switches also support computers that use PS/2 keyboards and mice.

12 Hardwar e Setup Cable Connection Make sure that power to all the devices you will be connecting has been turned off, and power cords unplugged. T o set up your KVM, refer to the installation diagram (Pg 14). The connections ar e color coded and / or marked with icons for easy installation.

16 Port Numbering Each CPU port on the KVM is assigned a port number (1, 2 for the GCS1802 and 1,2,3,4 for the GCS1804). The CPU port numbers are marked on the r ear panel of the switch. The Port ID of a computer is the same as the CPU port number on the KVM.
17 Power Off and Restart If it becomes necessary to Power Off the KVM, do the following: 1. Power off the switch. Unplug the KVM cables from the switch’ s rear panel. Unplug the switch’ s power cable. 2. W ait 10 seconds, then reconnect the KVM cables.
18 Pushbutton operation (Default method) 1. Press a pushbutton once to bring only the KVM focus to the selected port (2 sec delay in switching). 2. Press a pushbutton twice to bring the audio focus to the selected port (2 sec delay in switching).
19 Hotkey Operation There ar e two aspects of Hotkey operation. Each of the following items performs a differ ent function, but both are invoked fr om the keyboard.
20 The following pages describe the invocation and use of these functions. For clarity , default settings will be used in describing Hotkey operations, the alternative hot keys will be discussed under the OSD section.
21 Port Switching Port switching begins by tapping the Scroll Lock key twice [Scr oll Lock], [Scroll Lock] then entering letters and numbers for precise contr ol.

24 Auto Scanning: The KVM’ s Auto Scan featur e automatically cycles the KVM focus through the computer ports at r egular intervals. This allows you to monitor the computer activity without having to take the trouble of physically switching ports. Auto Scan skips unused ports.
25 1. [Scroll Lock] + [Scr oll Lock] + [Arrow] Wher e [Arrow] r efers to one of the Arrow keys. After you press [Arr ow], you automatically enter Skip, you can switch ports as follows: Skips from the current port to the previous port. Skips from the current port to the next port.
26 OSD Overview The On Screen Display (OSD) is a menu driven method to handle contr ol and switching operations. All procedur es start from the OSD Main Scr een. T o Access the OSD (default) : 1. Hold down the Num Lock key 2. Press and r elease the minus key 3.
27 The table below explains the abbreviations and Icons found on the Display PN This column lists the Port ID numbers for the CPU ports in the installation. The simplest method to access a particular computer is move the Highlight Bar to its corresponding port, then press [Enter].

29 T o select a port, use the F1, F2, F3, or F7 Keys, or click on the Up and Down Arr ow keys to move the Highlight Bar down the list on the screen. When the Highlight Bar is on the port, you want to switch to, press [Enter] or double click the left button of the mouse.
30 OSD functions are used to con fi gure and control the KVM. For example, you can: rapidly switch to any port; scan ports; or create or edit a port name; or make OSD setting adjustments. T o access an OSD function: Click a Function Key fi eld at the top of the Main Screen, or press a Function Key on the keyboard.
31 F3: AUDIO T o view the scr een of the selected Audio port, press [F3] or move the cursor to F3:Audio and click. F4: SCAN Clicking the F4 fi eld or pressing, [F4] invokes AUTO SCAN. This function allows you to monitor the available computers automatically at a preset interval ( 5 seconds being the default interval).
32 F7: PN This function allows you to switch KVM, USB and Audio focus to one port. When you press [F7], or click on the F7: PN fi eld, you select the KVM, USB and Audio columns simultaneously , use the Up or Down Arrow key to select the desir ed Port Number .
33 T o change a setting: Double click, or move the Highlight Bar to your selection, and press [Enter]. 1. After you select an item, a submenu with further choices appears. T o make a selection, either double 2. click; or move the Highlight Bar to it, and press [Enter].

42 Computer with new fi rmware GCS1802 / GCS1804 Using the Firmware Upgrade Cable pr ovided 3. with this unit, connect a COM port (on the computer to which you down loaded the fi rmware) to the Firmware Upgrade Port of your switch.
43 Enter OSD select F6, key down to “Firmware Upgrade” then [Enter] or Click. Or Key in Y (Y es) on 4. the bottom of the display window and press [Enter]. The “FIRMWARE UPGRADE IN PROGRESS” message will begin fl ashing on the screen. The front panel LEDs fl ash together to indicate fi rmware upgrade mode is in ef fect.
44 Run the downloaded Firmware Upgrade Package fi le – either by double clicking the fi le icon, or by 1. opening a command line and entering the full path to it. The Firmware Upgrade W elcome screen appears Read the License Agreement (Click on the 2.
45 Note: If you enabled Check Firmware V ersion, the Utility compares the device’ s fi rmware level with that of the upgrade fi les. If it fi nds that the device’ s version is higher than the upgrade version, a dialog box appears informing you of the situation and gives you the option to Continue or Cancel.
46 If the “Upgrade Succeeded” screen does not appear , the upgrade failed to complete successfully , in which case you should do the following: Power off the KVM and r emove its housing. 1. Using a jumper , short the pins on the mainboard labeled J14.
47 3. T urn the power on the KVM. It is now set to the factory default fi rmware level. 4. Leaving the jumper in place: Perform the fi rmware upgrade procedure again. 5. When the upgrade procedur e is complete, power off the switch, r emove the jumper cap from J14, close the housing, and re-power the KVM.
