7 Function Buttons 1 Start/Stop Button Press this button to star t or stop the machine. This button can be used either in the Ordinary Sewing Mode or Embroidery Mode. In the Ordinar y Sewing Mode , the machine star ts running slowly f or the first f ew stitches, it then runs at the speed set b y the Speed Control Le ver .
8 Contr olling Sewing Speed Speed Contr ol Lever Y ou can limit the maximum se wing speed with the Speed Control Le ver according to y our sewing needs . T o increase the sewing speed, slide the le ver to the right. T o decrease the sewing speed, slide the le ver to the left.
9 1 2 1 4 5 2 3 Raising and Lowering the Presser Foot The Presser F oot Lifter raises and low ers the Presser F oot. Y ou can raise the Presser F oot about 6 mm (1/4") higher than the normal up position by e x e r ting more pressure when lifting the Presser F oot Lifter .

11 1 2 3 4 5 6 8 10 7 9 V arious Presser Feet and Their Uses 1 Zigzag Foot A: This is the most v ersatile f oot. It can be used for various stitches including str aight stitches and zigzag stitches. It is designed to achie ve firm and neat seam results.
12 Winding the Bobbin Removing the bobbin 1 Slide the Hook Cov er Plate Release Button to the right, and remov e the Hook Cover Plate . 1 Hook Cov er Plate Release Button 2 Hook Cov er Plate 2 Lift out the Bobbin from the Bobbin Holder . 3 Bobbin Setting the Spool of Thread Lift up the Spool Pin.
13 Threading f or bobbin winding 1 Hold the upper thread with both hands and place it down into the Slit. 2 Guide the thread around the Thread Guide f ollowing the dashed line as shown in the diagr am. 3 Thread through the hole in the Bobbin from the inside to the outside.
14 Inserting the Bobbin 1 Place the Bobbin in the Bobbin Holder with the Thread running off counterclockwise . 1 Thread 2 Bobbin Holder 2 Guide the thread into the F ront Notch (A) on the front of the Bobbin Holder . 3 Dra w the thread to the left, sliding it between the tension spring blades.
15 Threading the Machine Raise the Presser F oot Lifter . Press the Up/Down Needle Button twice to raise the needle to its highest position. T urn the P ower Switch OFF . 1 Hold the upper thread with both hands as shown and place it down into the Slit.
16 Built-in Needle Threader 1 Raise the needle to its highest position b y pressing the Up/Down Needle Button twice . 2 T urn the P ower Switch OFF . 3 Lower the presser f oot. 4 Depress the Needle Threader Knob as f ar as it will go . The hook comes out through the needle eye from behind.
17 Drawing Up the Bobbin Thread 1 Raise the Presser F oot Lifter . 2 Hold the needle thread with your fingers and press the Up/Down Needle Button twice to pic k up the bobbin thread.
18 Changing Needles Raise the needle b y pressing the Up/Down Needle button and lo wer the presser foot. T urn the P ower Switch OFF . 1 Loosen the Needle Clamp Screw b y tur ning it counterclockwise . Remov e the Needle from the clamp . 1 Needle Clamp Screw 2 Inser t a new Needle into the Needle Clamp with the Flat Side of the needle to the rear .

20 1 2 3 1 Adjusting the Foot Pressure The f oot pressure control dial should be set at “ 3 ” fo r regular sewing. Reduce the pressure to “ 2 ” for applique , cut work, dra wn wor k and basting. Set the dial at “ 1 ” when sewing extra fine f abrics.
21 Mode Selection When you turn on the power s witch, the Visual T ouch Screen will show the opening “Welcome” window , then the Ordinar y Sewing Mode will appear after a f ew seconds.
22 SETTING MODE Pressing the SET ke y will open the mode setting window . 1 SET key Press the SET ke y to customize the machine settings. 2 Flag key (Language selection k ey) Press the flag k ey to select the language f or the screen displa y . Y ou can select one of 11 languages.

26 ORDINAR Y SEWING P attern Selection Press the Stitch P atter n K ey to select the desired patter n. The Name of the Stitch, Stitch Image of the selected patter n, the recommended f oot and machine settings will appear on the screen. Use the recommended f oot and machine settings unless otherwise stated in this manual.
27 Utility Stitches Straight stitch Press P atter n 1 on the Visual T ouch Screen. To s e w : Raise the Presser F oot and position the fabric next to a seam guideline on the needle plate. Lower the needle to the point where you w ant to star t. Pull the needle and bobbin threads tow ards the rear .
1 1 2 3 28 Securing seam F or fastening the ends of seams , press the Re verse Button and sew se veral re verse stitches . The machine sews in re verse as long as y ou press and hold the Re verse Button.
29 Adjusting the needle dr op position and stitch length When you press the Adjust k ey , the screen shows the manual setting window . 30 Changing needle drop position When you press the k ey , the needle mov es to the right. When you press the k ey , the needle mov es to the left. Changing stitch length Press the ke y to decrease the stitch length. Press the ke y to increase the stitch length.
31 02 Straight Stitch in Left Needle P osition Use this stitch to seam the edge of the f abr ics. 03 Lock-a-Matic Stitch Use this stitch to secure the beginning and the end of a seam with backstitching. When you reach the end of the seam, press the Re verse Button once.
32 Zigzag stitch This stitch is used f or v arious sewing needs including ov ercasting. It can be used on most wov en fabrics. It is the f astest wa y to finish an edge, leaving it neat and flat.
33 Changing stitch width Press the k ey to decrease the Stitch Width. Press the k ey to increase the Stitch Width. 1 Stitch Width Changing stitch length Press the ke y to decrease the Stitch Length. Press the ke y to increase the Stitch Length. 2 Stitch Length After adjusting the settings, press the OK k ey .

35 V ariety of o vercasting stitches Multiple Zigzag Stitch (T ricot Stitch) This stitch is used to finish a ra w edge of synthetics and other stretch f abr ics that tend to puck er . Se w along the f abric edge leaving an adequate seam allow ance. After se wing, tr im off the seam allow ance closer to the stitches.
36 Blind hem stitch Select the patter ns 11 or 12. NO TE: P atter n 11 is f or stretch f abrics. Attach Blind Hem F oot G. F old the f abr ic to form a hem as shown.

38 Zipper sewing Select the pattern 01. Attach the Zipper F oot E . Attaching the zipper f oot (A) Attach Zipper F oot E with the Pin on the Right- hand Side to the Groov e to sew the left side of the zipper . (B) Attach Zipper F oot E with the Pin on the Left- hand Side to the Groov e to sew the right side of the zipper .
39 To S e w F old back the left seam allowance . T ur n under the right seam allow ance to form a 0.2 to 0.3 cm (1/8") Fold. Place the zipper teeth ne xt to the fold and pin it in place. 1 Low er F abr ic 2 End of the Zipper Opening 3 Zipper T eeth 4 0.
40 Close the zipper and spread the f abric open flat with the right side up. Baste the upper f abric and zipper tape together . 11 Right Side of the F abr ic 12 Basting Reattach Zipper F oot E with the Left Pin. Sew 1 cm (3/8") across the end of the opening with re verse stitches.
41 Quilting Select the pattern 01. Regular quilting Use this Quilting Bar with the Zigzag F oot. Loosen the Screw on the bac k of the Foot Holder and insert the Quilting Bar into the Hole of the F oot Holder . Set the Quilting Bar to the desired position, then retighten the scre w .
42 V ariety of buttonholes and their uses 13 Sensor (Square) Buttonhole This square buttonhole is widely used on medium to hea vy weight f abr ics. The buttonhole siz e is automatically determined by placing a b utton in the f oot.
43 Sensor b uttonhole Select the pattern 17. The b uttonhole size is automatically set b y placing a button into the b utton holder in the rear of the A utomatic Buttonhole Foot R. NO TE: The button holder of the f oot takes a button siz e of up to 2.
44 Pull the Buttonhole Le ver down as f ar as it will go. 1 Buttonhole le ver NO TE: A warning message will appear and the machine will stop automatically if you star t to se w a buttonhole without pulling down the b uttonhole lev e r . Press the Return key and pull do wn the buttonhole le v er to restar t.
45 Press the Star t/Stop Button to sew the b uttonhole. The b uttonhole will be automatically sewn in a single step . The front bar tack and left ro w first, then the r ight row and back bartack. The machine will stop automatically when the buttonhole is completed.
46 Corded b uttonhole T o sew the corded b uttonhole, follo w the same procedure as f or the Sensor Buttonhole; refer to the instructions on pages 43 to 45. Select the pattern 13. With the A utomatic Buttonhole F oot R raised, hook the filler cord on the Spur on the bac k of the buttonhole f oot.
47 Changing b uttonhole width Press the Adjust k ey and the adjusting windo w will open. Press the ke y to increase the buttonhole width Press the ke y to decrease the buttonhole width Press the OK ke y to register the settings. NO TE: Def ault setting is 5.
48 A utomatic buttonhole Select the pattern 14. Attach the A utomatic Buttonhole F oot R . Pull the Button Holder all the wa y out. Mark the buttonhole position on the f abr ic. Inser t the f abric under the foot. Press the Up/Down Needle Button twice.
5 6 7 Auto 3 Step1 R Sew to length required, then press " ". Step2 Sew up to start position, then press " ". Auto 3 R Step3 Machine stops when BH is completed. A uto 3 R Restart for the same size. Different size Cancel Step-1 Se w up the left side until the end of the buttonhole mark.
50 Button sewing Select the pattern 20 and the feed dog will automatically drop . Place a b utton on the f abric and lower the needle b y tur ning the handwheel with y our hand, so that the needle enters through the left hole in the button. Align the direction of the b utton and lower the Button Sewing F oot T to hold the button in place.
51 Darning The Memor y Craft 9700 automatically darns rips and holes. Large and small holes can be mended quic kly and easily with this unique stitch. Select the pattern 21. Attach the A utomatic Buttonhole F oot R and pull the Button Holder all the w ay out.
52 T o sew a shorter darning T o sew a darning with a length of less than 2 cm (3/4”), first stop the machine after sewing the Required Length, then press the Re verse Button. The Required Length has now been determined. Restar t the machine and continue sewing until the machine stops automatically .
53 T a c king T acking is used to reinf orce pockets , crotches and belt carriers where extr a strength is needed. Select P atter n 22 and attach the Satin Stitch Foot F . The machine will se w a tacking of 1.5 cm (9/16”) long automatically . 1 1.5 cm (9/16”) NO TE: Press the Adjust ke y to manually change the stitch length and stitch width.
54 A Z 14 Adjust Auto 13 Sensor SET 19 20 21 15 16 17 18 22 23 24 F Auto 3 Eyelet Ey elet The Ey elet is used f or belt holes etc. Select the patter n 23 and attach the Satin Stitch F oot F . Depress the F oot Control to sew . The machine will stop automatically when completed.

64 Sewing the pattern combination fr om the beginning After you start sewing, the “M” (Memory check) k ey will change to the (Beginning) ke y . Press this k ey if y ou stop sewing in the middle of the patter n combination and wish to sew it again from the beginning.
65 Individual pattern adjustment Y ou can adjust the zigzag width, stitch length and elongation ratio of each patterns in a combination individually . Example: Changing the elongation ratio of the pattern 31 in combination with the patterns 65 and 32.
66 Editing Pr ogrammed Patterns Example: When the patter ns 31, 65 and 32 are memorized. Deleting the pattern 65 Press the Cursor ke y to move the cursor under the patter n 65. Press the Delete ke y . The pattern 65 will be deleted. Inserting the pattern 66 Press the Cursor ke y to move the cursor under the patter n 32.

74 2 1 3 Correcting Distorted Stretch Patterns The se wing results of the stretch stitch patter ns ma y v ar y depending upon the sewing conditions , such as sewing speed, type of the f abric, number of la yers etc. Alwa ys make a test se wing on a scrap piece of the f abric that you wish to use.
EMBROIDER Y MODE Embroidery Hoops Embr oidery Hoop A : This is the standard siz e hoop , with a 12.6 cm (5”) by 11 cm (4 3/8”) embroidery area for se wing PC Card embroider y designs etc.
76 1 2 3 2 1 Adhesive (Iron-on) Stabilizer Place the Wrong side of fabric and the glossy side of the stabilizer together . F old up a corner of the stabilizer and fuse it with an iron. NO TES: F old up a corner of the stabilizer to make it easier to peel off the e xcess stabilizer after stitching.
