2 Introduction Precautions Installation • Install in a place which is level, dry and neither too hot nor too cold—between 5°C and 35°C. • Install the System in a location with adequate ventilation to prevent internal heat buildup in the System.
3 Getting Started Step 1 : Unpack After unpacking, check to be sure that you have all the following items. The number in parentheses indicates the quantity of each piece supplied.

6 To assemble and connect the AM loop antenna To assemble the AM loop antenna To connect the AM loop antenna and speaker cords • If the AM loop antenna wire or speaker cords are covered with vinyl, remove the vinyl to expose the tip of the antenna by twisting the vinyl.
7 To connect a center speaker and surround speakers • Connect the center speaker to the CENTER jack. • Connect the left surround speaker to the LEFT jack. • Connect the right surround speaker to the RIGHT jack. • Use only speakers with the same speaker impedance as indicated by the speaker terminals on the rear of the unit.
8 Setting the Speakers Speaker layout To enjoy multi-channel sound, locate speakers as follows. If you cannot locate them like this, adjust the speaker setting by using the Set up menu. (See right column.) • You can place the front subwoofer wherever you like since bass sound is non-directional.
9 7 Select the speaker to adjust the distance, then display the pop-up window. 8 Adjust the desired speaker distance. • For each speaker (FRONT SPEAKER, CENTER SPEAKER, SURROUND SPEAKER), set the distance from the listening point within the range of 0.

12 About the Display Indication The indications on the display teach you a lot of things while you are operating the System. Before operating the System, be familiar with when and how the indicator illuminates on the display. TITLE LFE S C RS LS L R CHAP .
13 1 Surround Mode/Source signal indicators • Surround Mode indicators: light to indicate the current activated speaker. • L/C/R/LFE/LS/S/RS: light to indicate the current source signal. 2 TITLE indicator • Lights to indicate the title number when the source is DVD Video.
14 Daily Operations —Playback ¥ Turn on the power. The STANDBY lamp on the main unit goes off. • Without pressing (STANDBY/ON), the System also turns on by pressing one of the source select buttons in the next step. ø Select the source. Playback automatically starts if the selected source is ready to start playback.
15 Listening to the Radio To select the band (FM/AM) To tune in to a station While FM or AM is selected... When a station (frequency) with sufficient signal strength is tuned in, the frequency search stops. To stop searching manually, press either button.

18 Playing Back a Tape To insert a tape You can play back type I tapes. • The use of C-120 or longer tape is not recommended. To change the tape running direction (deck B only) To reverse the tape automatically (deck B only) To playback the both decks A and B continuously —Relay Play When the cassettes are set in the both decks.
19 Daily Operations —Sound&Other Adjustments Adjusting the Volume The volume level can be adjusted in 32 steps (VOLUME MIN, VOLUME 1 – VOLUME 30, VOLUME MAX). To drop the volume in a moment Reinforcing the Bass Sound To adjust the bass level gradually You can select the subwoofer level from level 0 (minimum) to level 4 (maximum).
20 Adjusting the Front Speaker Output Balance You can adjust the output balance of left front speaker and right front speaker within the range of R (right) –6 (minimum sound level from the right speaker) to L (left) –6. Selecting the Sound Modes You can select one of the preset Sound Modes.
21 Using Surround Mode To activate Surround Mode • For DVD/CD source • For AUX/FM/AM/TAPE-A/TAPE-B * If Multi-channel surround signal comes in, Multi-channel Surround Mode will be selected automatically. To adjust the DSP effect level When one of the DSP modes is selected.

24 Unique DVD/VCD Operations Selecting the Sound Track For DVD Video: While playing back a chapter containing audio languages, you can select the language to listen to. For DVD Audio: While playing back a track containing audio channels, you can select the audio channel to listen to.
25 Selecting the Subtitle Language For DVD Video: While playing back a chapter containing subtitles in different languages, you can select the subtitle language to display on the TV screen. For SVCD: While playing, you can select the subtitles even if no subtitles are recorded on the disc.
26 Playing Back a Bonus Group on a DVD Audio Some DVD Audios have a special group called “bonus group” whose contents are not open to the public. • To play back a bonus group, you have to enter the specific “key number” (a kind of password) for the bonus group.
27 Advanced Disc Operations Programming the Playing Order —Program Play You can arrange the playing order of the tracks (up to 99) before you start playback. 1 Before starting playback, activate Program Play. 2 Select chapters or tracks you want for Program Play.

44 Restricting the Review —Parental Lock You can restrict playback of DVD Video containing violent scenes and those unsuitable for your family members. Once you have set the rating level, such violent scenes (for which a higher level than you set is assigned) may be skipped or changed to another scene (depending on how the disc is programmed).
