3 Getting Started Step 1 : Unpack After unpacking, check to be sure that you have all the following items. The number in parentheses indicates the quantity of each piece supplied. • FM antenna (1) • AM loop antenna (1) • Remote control (1) • Batteries (2) If any item is missing, consult your dealer immediately.
4 Step 3 : Hook Up If you need more detailed information, see page 5. Illustrations of the input/output terminals below are typical examples. When you connect other components, refer also to their manuals since the terminal names actually printed on the rear vary among the components.
5 To connect the AM loop antenna cords • Connect black cord to the H terminal, and the while cord to the other terminal. • If the AM loop antenna wire or speaker cords are covered with vinyl, remove the vinyl to expose the tip of the antenna by twisting the vinyl.

7 The indications on the display teach you a lot of things while you are operating the System. Before operating the System, be familiar with when and how the indicator illuminates on the display. *1 At the playback beginning, the file name will be shown for a while after the track number and elapsed playing time.
8 Daily Operations —Playback ¥ Turn on the power. The standby lamp on the main unit goes off. • Without pressing STANDBY/ON , the System also turns on by pressing one of the source select button in step ø . ø Select the source. Playback automatically starts if the selected source is ready to start.
9 Listening to the Radio To select the band (FM/AM) To tune in to a station While FM or AM is selected... When a station (frequency) with sufficient signal strength is tuned in, the frequency search stops. To stop searching manually, press either button.
10 Playing Back a Disc This System can play back the following discs—regular CD and CD-R/RW (recorded in the audio CD format and in the ISO 9660 format for MP3 files). To insert discs To close the disc tray, push up the same control ( 0 ) again. If you push down the same control ( 3 ), the disc tray closes automatically and playback starts.

12 Playing Back from the PC This System is equipped with a USB terminal on the front panel. You can connect your PC to this terminal and enjoy sound reproduced through your PC. When you connect your PC for the first time, follow the procedure below. • Remember you cannot send any signal or data to your PC from this System.
13 Daily Operations —Sound and Other Adjustments Adjusting the Volume The volume level can be adjusted in 32 steps (VOL MIN, VOL 1 – VOL 30, and VOL MAX). To drop the volume in a moment To restore the volume, press the button again, or adjust the volume level.
14 Selecting the Sound Modes You can select one of the preset Sound Modes. Selecting the Surround Modes You can select one of the Surround Modes to create being- there feeling in your room. Turning On or Off the Key-Touch Tone Setting the Clock Without setting the built-in clock, you cannot use Daily Timer (see page 18).
15 Advanced Disc Operations Programming the Playing Order —Program Play You can arrange the playing order of the tracks (up to 32 tracks) before you start playback. • Program Play cannot be used for MP3 discs. 1 Before starting playback, activate Program Play.

17 Repeating Playback—Repeat Play You can repeat playback. • Repeat Play and Random Play cannot be used at the same time. Before playback or while playing... • “REPEAT 1 DISC” cannot be selected for Program Play. It is also canceled when you select Program Play.
18 Timer Operations Turning Off the Power Automatically With Sleep Timer, you can fall asleep to music. While the System is turned on... To check the time remaining until the shut-off time Setting the Daily Timer Using Daily Timer, you can wake up with your favorite song.

21 Maintenance To get the best performance of the System, keep your discs clean. Handling discs • Remove the disc from its case by holding it at the edge while pressing the center hole lightly. • Do not touch the shiny surface of the disc, or bend the disc.
