– 10 – Common Operations Setting the Clock Before operating the unit any further , first set the c lock built in this unit. 1 Pr ess P ANEL OPEN/CLOSE. The unit is turned on and the Po wered Rolling Panel opens automatically . 2 Pr ess TIMER/CLOCK.
– 11 – F ADE MUTING S. A. BASS SA-BASS1 SA-BASS2 OFF (Canceled) Selecting the Sound Modes Y ou can select one of the 6 preset sound modes (3 surround modes and 3 SEA – Sound Ef fect Amplifier – modes). The sound modes can be applied only to playback sounds, and cannot be used for recording.
– 12 – While using one of the surround modes Y ou can adjust the rear speaker output lev el if the rear speakers are connected. Once you adjust the rear speaker output le vel for each surround mode, the adjusted le vel is stored in memory . • Y ou cannot adjust the right and left rear speaker lev els separately .
– 13 – Listening to FM and AM Broadcasts T uning in a Station On the unit ONL Y : 1 Pr ess FM/AM. The unit automatically turns on and tunes in the previously tuned sta tion (either FM or AM). The P owered Rolling Panel automatically opens. • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM.
– 14 – Playing Back CDs Loading CDs 1 Pr ess 0 f or the disc tray (CD 1 to 3) y ou want to load a CD onto. The unit automatically turns on and the disc tray comes out. T he Powered Rolling Panel also opens automatically . 2 Place a disc correctl y on the circle of the disc tray , with its label side up.
– 15 – T o locate a particular point in a track During play , press and hold 1 or ¡ . • 1 : F ast r e verses the disc. • ¡ : Fast forw ards the disc. When using the remote control, press and hold 1 / 4 or ¢ / ¡ . T o go to another track Press 4 or ¢ repeatedly before or during playback.
– 16 – T o exit from Random play mode, press PR OGRAM/ RANDOM repeatedly again before or after play so that the unit enters another play mode. Even if y ou press 4 (or 1 / 4 on the remote control) Y ou cannot go back to the previous tracks during Random play .
– 17 – Playing Back T apes Y ou can play back type I, type II, and type IV tapes without changing any settings. Playing Back a T ape 1 Pr ess EJECT ( 0 ) for the deck y ou want to use. 2 Put a cassette in, with the exposed part of the tape down. 3 Close the cassette holder gently .
– 18 – Using Dolby Surround Continued Preparing for Dolby Surround Once you hav e finished adjustments for Dolby Surround, you can use the same adjustments ev ery time you want to use each Dolby Surround mode – Dolby Pro Logic and Dolby 3 Stereo.

– 21 – CD Direct Recording Everything on the CD goes onto the tape in the order it is on the CD, or according to the order you hav e made for Program play . 1 Put a recordable cassette into deck B. 2 Place a disc correctl y on the circle of the disc tray , with its label side up.
– 22 – Auto Edit Recording By using Auto Edit Recording, you can record the CD tracks to f it the tape. Auto Edit Recording makes a program by selecting the CD tracks in numerical order . Ho wever , to prev ent the end of the last track on the front side from being cut off , the last track is selected so as to fit on the remaining tape length.
– 23 – Using the T imers There are three timers av ailable — Recording T imer , Daily T imer , and Sleep T imer . Before using the timers, you need to set the clock built in the unit. (See page 10.) Using Daily Timer W ith Daily T imer , you can wake to your fa vorite music or radio program.

Handling cassette tapes • If the tape is loose in its cassette, take up the slack by inserting a pencil in one of the reels and rotating. • If the tape is loose, it may get stretched, cut, or caught in the cassette.
