Getting Started 8 PRECAUTIONS Hard Disk Drive The distance between the head and disk that read and write data on the hard disk drive (he reinafter known as the HDD) is a miniscule 0.02µm. Vibrations and physical shocks to the HDD may therefore result in the head coming into contact with the disk, producing dents and scratches to its surface.
9 Getting Started Place of storage and use Please avoid storing or using this DVR in the following places: • Extremely hot or cold places beyond the allowable temperature for operation (5°C - 40°C). • Humid or dry places beyond the allowable humidity range for operation (30 % - 80 % RH).

Viewing Live Camera Images 26 It is possible to view live images with the SPOT output function. The following two meth ods for changing the display contents for SPOT output are available: • Changing SPOT output manually. • Changing SPOT output with term inal in put on the rear panel.

Recording Camera Images 28 The normal recording mo de is operated as follows in accordance with the [TIMER/MODE (REC PATTERN)] setting made on the [DETAIL REC] screen (See page 30), and the ON/ OFF setting for the [TIME R/MODE]. 33 Recording Ca mera Images Alarm recording is started when signals are input and whe n motion is detected in the STOP mode, and during normal recording and timer recording. 1. Connect the [EMERGENCY] terminal to the alarm device. 2. Setting the [DETAIL REC] screen.
Recording Camera Images 34 1. Press the [MENU] button. • The [MENU] → [REC DETAIL] → [ALARM REC] screens will be displayed in this sequence in accordance with the [MENU Screen Operations] expl ained on page 17 . 2. Select the camera input th at is to be set up with [ W / X ].
35 Recording Ca mera Images There are two methods of performing motion detection: 1) with a pre-determined set of parameter s, and 2) by freely se tting detection sensitivity. It is also possible to set the area for which detection is to be carri ed out on the screen.
Recording Camera Images 36 When the [Motion Detection] value on the [OPERATION SET] screen is set at [USER], it is po ssible to set the sensitivity for [DYNAMIC SENSITIVITY LEVEL ], [TARGET AREA LEVEL] and [STOP LEVEL]. These settings have no effect if anything other than [USER] has been specified.
37 Recording Ca mera Images Sets up the area for motion detection. This setting is applicabl e for when both [USER] and any other parameter has been selected for the sensitivity level.

Playing Back Recorded Images 40 Plays back recorded images. This is activated by runni ng a search according to the date of the image to be played back using “SEARCH DATE” (See page 43) or in accordance with the time when alarm signals are received using the “ALARM LIST SEARCH” feature.
41 Playing Back Recorded Images The VR-509 is equi pped with features to pla yback images on single screens and split screens. * Sequentia l display is not po ssible during playback. • The SPLIT display LED and the SEQUENCE disp lay LED are both extinguished.

Useful Features Using a PC 46 As can be seen in the illustrations below, the VR-509 ’s DATE/ TIME, camera title and othe r elements can be displayed on the monitor screen. It is also possible to change thei r position on the screen. Set the display mode to live images on a single screen.

51 Useful Feature s Using a PC When alarm recordin g is performed re peatedly with Repeat Recording set to “ALL” or “ALARM LOCK”, data in the hard disk may become fragmented.
Useful Features Using a PC 52 Mirroring refers to recording the same da ta in the 2 built-in hard disks. In this way, recorded dat a can be secured even if data on one of the hard disks is damaged. (See on page 53 for the notes on “Setting up MIRRORING”) 1.
53 Useful Feature s Using a PC • The capacity of the hard disk will be reduced by approximately half when mirroring is set up . It is therefore necessary to take care when setting recording times. • Mirroring can onl y be set up for the built-in hard di sk, and is not possible on additional disks.

57 Using DVD The VR-509 is equi pped with a function to en able the images stored on the hard disk to be exported to DVDs. * It is possible to export images to a DVD when recording onto the hard disk. 1. Press the [HDD(DVD)] button. • The display LED will be illuminated, and the DVD operation mode will be acti vated.

Using DVD 60 It is possible to pla yback the images that have been exported from the hard disk to DVDs. Set the export forma t to format including “SELF-PLAYING” when exporting the data. * DVD images can be played back when reco rding onto the HDD.
61 Using DVD The following ti tle menus and chapt er menus are created for DVDs that are forma tted in the DVD-Video and DVD-Video (intermittent interpolatio n) formats for exporting purposes. * DVDs that are created in the DVD-Video and DVD-Video (intermittent interpola tion) cann ot be played ba ck on the VR- 509E.
