2 PREP ARA TION CHARGING THE BA TTERY P ACK The batter y pack is not charged at the f actor y; charge it before use. Av erage batter y pack lif e (calculated using 5% transmit time, 5% receiv e time, and 90% standby time) is 15 hours.
3 3 When charging is complete, the LED indicator turns off. • It tak es approximately 4 hours to charge the battery pack. ■ Charging with the KSC-44CR Charger 1 Plug the A C adapter cable into the jac k located on the bottom of the charger . 2 Plug the A C adapter into an A C outlet.
4 REPLACING THE BA TTERY P ACK Replace an e xpired batter y pack with a ne wly purchased KNB-71L batter y pack. ◆ Do not disassemble the battery pack. ◆ Be sure to follo w local laws concerning the disposal of batter y packs . 1 Pull bac k the batter y pack latch, then remov e the batter y cover from the transceiv er .
5 4 Insert the connector of the new batter y pack into the PCB terminal by pressing down on it. • Match the direction of the connector and inser t it vertically . 5 Pull bac k the batter y pack latch, then inser t the batter y pack into position. • F ailure to pull back the battery pack latch will cause the battery pack to be misaligned.
6 INST ALLING THE BEL T CLIP If necessar y , attach the belt clip using the two supplied M3 x 6 mm screws (with w ashers). Note: If the belt clip is not installed, its mounting location may get hot during continuous tr ansmission or when left sitting in a hot environment.
7 ORIENT A TION 3.5 mm phone jack Connect the earphone/ microphone plug to this jack. Micro USB jac k (B T ype) Connect a USB cable to this jac k to charge the transceiv er battery pack. PF-1 key Press or hold this ke y for 1 second to activate its programmab le functions.
8 LED indicator Ref er to the “LED INDICA TOR ST A TUS” table on page 10. PF-2 key Press this ke y to toggle the function of the Up/Down k eys between V olume Adjustment mode and Channel Select mode. Hold this key f or 1 second to activate its prog rammab le function.
9 BASIC OPERA TIONS POWER AND VOLUME 1 Hold the Po wer switch f or appro ximately 1 second to s witch the transceiv er pow er ON. • A beep sounds and the LED indicator b links blue a number of times as described in the “BA TTERY LEVEL GUIDE” table on page 10.
10 ◆ Even when setting the v olume to 0, the transceiver will continue to emit beep sounds and channel announcements. ◆ Continuously transmitting when the transceiv er becomes too hot will cause the output power to decrease and ma y ev entually stop transmission.
11 VOICE OPERA TED TRANSMISSION (VOX) V O X operation allows you to tr ansmit hands-free. V O X can only be used if you are using a supported clip microphone with ear phone/hanger .

15 QUIET T ALK (QT)/ DIGIT AL QUIET T ALK (DQT) Quiet T alk (QT) and Digital Quiet T alk (DQT) are functions that reject undesired signals on your channel. Y ou will hear a call only when you receiv e a signal that contains a matching QT tone or DQT code.

18 KEY ASSIGNMENT MODE This transceiv er allows y ou to reprogram the PF-1 ke y (press/ hold) and PF-2 ke y (hold only) with any of the functions listed in the table belo w . Explanations on the use of each function are provided under “PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS”, on page 19.
19 4 Press the PF-1 key or hold the PF-1 or PF-2 k ey to program the new function onto the desired k ey . • A tone sounds after pressing the PF-1 k ey , confi rming that the function has been stored to the PF-1 press operation.
20 ■ Squelch Off Press this ke y to hear background noise. Press the ke y again to return to nor mal operation. ■ Super Lock-C Press and hold this ke y for 4 seconds to lock the tr ansceiver ke ys. Super Lock-C loc ks the transceiv er ke ys to prev ent accidental operation.
21 TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE Problem Solution Cannot turn the transceiv er power ON. • The battery pack may be dead. Recharge or replace the batter y pack. • The battery pack may not be installed correctly . Remov e the batter y pack and install again.
22 ALL RESET MODE At some point in time, y ou ma y desire to reset the transceiv er settings to their def ault values . This function will reset all channels to their def ault frequencies and QT/DQT , the V O X function to its def ault status, and all k eys to their def ault functions.
