Auto Power Save/ Projection Lamp functions This system provides two functi ons that help to decrease power consumption: • The Auto Power Save function that automatically shut s down power to the printer heater .

2-4 A-61371 September 2004 Using the Shif t function on the Control Panel When you use the Shif t function (Clear/S top key) on the Control Panel, other options are available. Control Panel - Shif t Function NOTE: All of these functions can be performed when the Shift key and one of the keys described belo w are pressed.
A-61371 September 2004 2-5 Control Panel 1 Centering/Fit key — when pressed, enables or disables t he Centering and Fit functions. When Auto Masking, T rimming or Masking are set to Off, Auto Masking will automat ically be enabled when Centering is selected.
2-6 A-61371 September 2004 3 Auto Masking Key — turns auto masking on or of f. Auto masking omits the frame (non-image area) of a printed film image. Auto masking is only available in the PR mode . • The previous Centering/Fit se tting is applied when On is selected from the Off st ate.

Screen image to Pr int Image Description Auto Masking (1 Frame) The black borde rs that run along th e edges of the image are masked.

3-2 A-61371 September 2004 Selecting a projection lens Projection lenses are available in the following types. Select the type of lens that corresponds to the film you are using.
A-61371 September 2004 3-3 Inst alling the projection lens T o install a lens with a magnification differe nt from the pre-installe d lens. 1. Grasp the Prism Holder lever and pull it up. 2. Pull out the projection lens unit. 3. Slide the desired projection lens unit into the scanner along th e lens holder guide.
3-4 A-61371 September 2004 Positioning the film image The size frame markers that corre spond to the scanning size are marked on the screen. Through zooming and image rotatio n, and by operating the film carrier moun ted on the system, position the image on the screen so the image fit s in the scanning size.
A-61371 September 2004 3-5 Zooming and focusing images Zooming in on the displayed image : • Rotate th e Zooming Ring dial to bring the image on th e screen into the print size frame. Focusing the displayed image: • Center the displayed image and press the AF (Auto Focus) key to le t the scanner automatically bring the image in to focus.
3-6 A-61371 September 2004 Selecting the film type Auto The system will automatically determ ine the polarity of the film be ing used when Auto is selected with the Film T ype key . NOTE: The system cannot determine the polarity of cert ain types of film.
A-61371 September 2004 3-7 Selecting the p aper size Press the Paper Selection key to select the desire d print size. The system cycles through the availabl e sizes each time you pre ss the key .
3-8 A-61371 September 2004 Using the Auto Film Format Selection function When the pap er feeding tray is loaded with 8 1/2 x 1 1” (A4) paper and the paper cassette is loaded with 8 1/2 x 1 1” (A4) pa per , this function can be used to automatically select the appropriate size of p aper for the current print job.
A-61371 September 2004 3-9 Selecting the image density Using Auto Exposure 1. Press the Exposure Mode key to select the Auto Exposure mode. 2. If the Auto Exposure setting is not satisfa ctory , press the appropriate Exposure Adjustment key , either Lighter or Darker , to set the desired image density .
3-10 A-61371 September 2004 Correcting a number T o reset an entry: • Press the Clear/S top key , which resets the number on the Multi-Print display to “1”. Using Auto Masking The Auto Masking function preven ts the frame (n on-image area) of a film image from appearing on the print.
A-61371 September 2004 3-1 1 Manual Masking p anels (option) 1 Lengthwise Area Indication p anel — use to specify the print area in the vertical direction of the ima ge on the screen. The system makes a print of the image corresponding to the way the Are a keys are illuminated.
3-12 A-61371 September 2004 Using Manual Masking The optional Manual Masking Kit al lows you to specify an area of printing of the displayed image thro ugh two separate features: trimming and masking. Selecting T rimming • Press the Masking key to s elect Tr i m m i n g .
A-61371 September 2004 3-13 Defining two sep arate areas Define the areas to print by specifying the vertical and ho rizontal area s as follows: 2 end point s for vertical and 4 end points for horizo ntal. NOTE: The points defining the vertical and horizontal area can be selected in any order .
3-14 A-61371 September 2004 Clearing a defined Print area • Press the V e rtical and Horizont al Clear keys. Selecting Masking • Press the Masking key to select Masking when you want to ma sk a given area of an image. NOTE: The basic operation for Manual Masking is simila r to T rimming.
A-61371 September 2004 3-15 Centering • Press the Centering/Fit key to turn on Centering. NOTE: Centering/Fit mode cannot be used if Masking is selected. Fit • Press the Centering/Fit key to turn on Fit. NOTE: Fit mode cannot be used when th e scanner is connected to the PC.
3-16 A-61371 September 2004 Spec ifying the interval between scanning ope rations The chart below provides the time intervals that can be set between scanning operations. The time interval is based upon how much time it takes you to move, for example, a roll of film from frame-to-frame.
A-61371 September 2004 3-17 Selecting the Resolution The resolution for scanning (print ing) can be selected. 1. Press the Shift ke y and the Resolution key together . The current resolution is displayed. 2. Press the Resolution key while holding down the Shif t key to set the resolution.
3-18 A-61371 September 2004 Calling the Job Program T o call a registered Job Program: 1. Press the Shift ke y and the Job Recall key together . Each time the Job Recall key is pressed while the Shift key is held down, the display is cycled in order of 1J to 2J to 3J.

3-22 A-61371 September 2004 Correcting Image Distortion Y ou can set up the scanner-printer to automatically correct any slig ht image distortion that occurs during scanning. 1. Press and hold the Shift key and t he Paper Selection key . 2. Select U2 in the User mode.

4-4 A-61371 September 2004 Loading p aper into the p aper feeding tray Before loading p aper in the p aper tray/p aper cassette, be sure of the following: • Make sure the p aper stack does not exce ed the Maximum Level indicator . • Load a new p aper st ack only afte r the old one has run out.
A-61371 September 2004 4-5 Loading p aper into the p aper cassette 1. Pull the ca ssette out of the printer and open th e cover . 2. Press down the Paper Lifting Plat e until it lo cks. Fan the paper st ack thoroughly , align the edges, and place the p aper in the cassette.
4-6 A-61371 September 2004 Replacing the toner cartridge 1. Open the upper unit by pulling th e Upper Unit Lock Release Lever forward. NOTE: Push the print tray in before opening th e upper unit. 2. Remove the old imaging cartridge from the printer. 3.
A-61371 September 2004 4-7 4. Remove the seal from the imaging cartridge by pulling it steadily straight out. 5. Shake the imaging cartridge four or five times as shown to evenly distribute the toner inside.
A-61371 September 2004 4-9 Cleaning the printer Clean the printer at regular intervals. CAUTION: Use a soft cloth and NEVER use a brasives or corrosive detergent s. 1. Before cleaning the printer , turn off the power and unplug the power cord from the power cord wall socket outlet.

5-2 A-61371 September 2004 Carrier Glass (option) NOTE: Before cleaning the carrier glass, remove the projection lens from the scanner . Refere to Chapter 3, “Installing the pro jection lens” for procedures. • With a damp cloth, clean and remove any d ust or debris from the surface of the carrier glass.
