A-61602 January 2008 5 Inst alling the scanner Install the scanne r in the following order: 1. Install the Kodak Driver Sof tware. 2. Assemble the scanner . 3. V erify that you have a USB port. 4. Connect the power cord to the scanner . 5. Connect the USB cable between your scanner and PC.

Open the scanner cover . 3. Locate and align the four tabs on the input tray with the slot s on the scanner .
10 A-61602 January 2008 Att aching the output tray 1. Locate the output tray slot s on the scanner . 2. Align the output tray pins with the slots and lower the output tray into place. NOTE: The output tray can be folded up when no t in use for easy storage.
A-61602 January 2008 11 V erifying for a USB port After you inst all the Kodak Driver Software, check for the presence of a USB port. • Select USB T est. The USB verification tool will check your operating system and hardware cap ability to determine if you ne ed to install the USB card.
12 A-61602 January 2008 Connecting the power cord to the scanner When the drivers ha ve been inst al led, connect the power supply and power cord to the scanner . Make sure that the power outlet is located within 1.52 metres (5 feet) o f the scanner and is easily accessible.
A-61602 January 2008 13 Connecting the USB cable IMPORT ANT : If you have not installed the Kodak Driver Software, do that now before proceedin g. The following instructions explain the connection of the USB cable between your scanner and PC. Y ou need to identify the USB port on your PC.
14 A-61602 January 2008 T urning on the scanner and finalizing Kodak Driver Sof tware inst allation When the USB cable and power connections have b een made, and the Kodak Software Drivers have been properly inst alled, the installa tion will be complete when the scanner is tu rned on.
A-61602 January 2008 15 The Hardware Update Wizard screen will b e displayed. 4. Click Finish . When the inst allation process is complete and ready to scan, the LED indicator will stop flashing and stay green and the number 1 will be displayed in the function window .

These numbers correspond to 9 predefined scanning function s. See the section entitled, “Smart touch functionality” in Chapter 3 for more information.

A-61602 January 2008 19 3 Using the Scanner T urning the scanner on and off • Press the button on the back of the scanner to turn the scanner on (I) or off (O). After you turn on the scanner , wait for it to complete the self-test. When completed, the green indicator light will remain on a nd constant.
20 A-61602 January 2008 S t art and stop scanning Before you st art scanning, make sure the scanner is on and ready for operation, which is indicated by the g reen indicator light being on and constant. Scanning is controlled by sof tware developed for your app lication.
A-61602 January 2008 21 V erifying yo ur scanner inst allation Kodak provides a test application called the Ko dak Scan V alidation T ool . This section describes how to use this tool to pe rform a basic scan function which includes feeding p aper and viewing captured images on your PC.
22 A-61602 January 2008 The main Kodak Scanner window will be displayed. 5. Select the Default Setting Sh ortcut. 6. Click OK . This reset s the sof tware to the factory-in stalled default settings. The factory default settings are set to capture black and white images.
A-61602 January 2008 23 The documents will be scanned and displayed in the Sca n V alidation T ool dialog box. NOTE: If the scanner is in powe r saver mode, a message will be displayed that the lamps need suf ficient time to warm up. Scanning will proceed when the lamp s are ready .
24 A-61602 January 2008 Smart touch functionality Smart touch functionality allows you to quickly and easily perform common scanning tasks. Nine d ifferent fun ctions can be assigned and performed. Y ou can perform any of the functions by pressing the S tart button on the scanner or by selecting the function from the smart touch function listing.
A-61602 January 2008 25 Remove Icon — displays the Remove Icon dialog box. When you click Ye s , you will close smart touch and remove the smart touch icon from the system tray . If the checkbo x is selected when you exit, smart touch will rest art automatically and appear in the system tray the next time a user logs in.

28 A-61602 January 2008 Scan As settings Settings Shortcut — displays the name of a group o f scanner settings currently defined for use by the Kodak Scanner . This named group of scanner settings is called a shortcu t and is described in more det ail in Chapter 4.

The Configuration dialog box will be displayed. 2. Select the T ask shortcut you want to configur e from the Ta s k Shortcut drop-down list.

A-61602 January 2008 33 Smart touch Edit window The smart touch Edit window allows you to view the scanned images before sending them to the final de stination. As document s are scanned, the images will be disp layed in th e Edit window. From this window you can perform commo n editing tasks such as, rotating and dele ting blank pages, etc.
34 A-61602 January 2008 These icons are available on the Edit window . T o use a tool, click on the icon to select the tool, then apply it to th e desired image. Start — allows you to scan additional document s and append them to the current images.

Launching from the scanner: 1. Use the arrow button to scroll throug h the function numbers an d select the desired function.

The Kodak ScanMate i1 120 Scanner provides the a bility to process scanned images to improve their qualit y . Using these features the scanner can sometimes make the scanned ima ge look better than the original document.
A-61602 January 2008 37 Scan V alidation T ool dialog box The Scan V alidation T ool (SVT) is a diagnostic application provided by Kodak. The SVT user interf ace allows access to all the features of the scanner and is a good wa y to verify that the scanner is working properly .
38 A-61602 January 2008 Save Images to Files — saves the images to th e specified directory . Display Every enter the sampling rate of the imag es you want to display while scanning. For example, to see every image, en ter a value of 1. T o see every 10 th image, enter a value of 10.
A-61602 January 2008 39 How do I begin? The goal is to make scanning as simple a s possible. This is accomplished by selecting a Setting Shortcut from the main Kodak Scanner window and then selecting OK/Sca n . The scanner comes with some Setting Shortcut s already def ined.
40 A-61602 January 2008 Selecting Image settings From the main Kodak Scanner window: 1. Select a predefined Setting Sh ortcut from the Setting Shortcut s list. Choose a Setting Shortcu t that desc ribes as closely as possible the image output you desire.

If you are satisfied with your selecte d image processing options, reload your document if necessary and click OK/Scan . • If th e images are accepta ble, the image processing settings are fine and you do not need to click t he Settings button to alter any values in the General, Size, Adjustments o r Enhancements t abs.

Y ou can scan by simp ly selecting a Setting Shortcut and then selecting OK/Scan . Setting Shortcut s — provides a listing of the Setting Shortcut s currently set up.
44 A-61602 January 2008 • If you have made changes to a Setting Short cut and have not saved your changes, the Setting Shortcu t will be appended with the text < changed >, and the name will be displayed in it alics (e.g., *Default<changed> ).

When you move a Setting Shortcut, it will stay in that position until you move it again. Move Down — moves the selected Setting Shortcut down one position in the Setting Shortcut list.

The values used in Image Settings are saved in the selected Setting Shortcut. The Image Set tings window includes the following tabs: General, Size, Adjustment s and Enhancements.
A-61602 January 2008 47 T oolbar buttons Preview area The main purpose of the preview area is to display a sample image that is based on your current shortcut setting s. An image will be displayed in this area after a p review scan has been performed.
48 A-61602 January 2008 General tab The General t ab cont ains the commonly used image o ptions. In most cases, you will not have to change o ptions on other t abs. Scan as — allows you to select the electronic image format. • Color (24-bit) : produces a color version of your documen t.
A-61602 January 2008 49 Compression — allows you to reduce y our electronic image size . • T ype : the scanner will produce a colo r version of your document. - (none) : no compression, which may produce a large image size. - Group-4 : uses a CCITT st andard to compress a black and white image, often used in con junction with TIFF files.
50 A-61602 January 2008 Size t ab The Size tab allows you to define values relating to the image output (i.e., cropping values, p aper size, etc.). Document — allows you to select how the scanner will dete ct your document as it is being fed through the scanner .
A-61602 January 2008 51 Outline — allows you to select the location and size of your electronic image. The preview area will show the o utline. • Origin (x, y) : - if you select Document: Manually.

54 A-61602 January 2008 Threshold — aids in controlling the level at which a pixel is considered black or white. Decreasing this setting will make the image ap pear lighter , and can be used to subdue backgrou nd noise. Increasing this setting will make the image appear darker , and can be used to help pick up light informat ion.
A-61602 January 2008 55 Adjustment s t ab: color or grayscale The options available on the Adjustment s tab depend on the Scan as selection on the General t ab. The following opt ions are based on a Scan As selection of Color or Grayscale . Brightness — changes the amount of white in t he color or grayscale image.

Image Edge Fill — fills the edg es of the final electronic image by covering the area with the specified color . • Color : allows you to select the color to fill the edges with.
A-61602 January 2008 57 Blank Image Detection — allows you to configure the sca nner to not include blank ima ges. • On : turns Blank Image Detection on and makes the rest of the Blank Image Detection options availa ble.
58 A-61602 January 2008 Advanced Image Setup The Advanced t ab The Advanced Image Setup icon is loca ted at the top of the Image Settings window next to the Side drop-down box. When you select the Advanced Image Setup icon, the Advanced tab will be displayed.

A-61602 January 2008 75 5 Maintenance Cleaning procedures Y our scanner needs to be clean ed periodically . If your documents do not feed easily , if several document s feed at the same time or if streaks appear on your images, it is time to clean your scanner .

With the orange tab in the upward position, snap the f eed roller assembly in place. 7. Rotate the orang e tab down. If the tab is n ot in the down position, you will not be able to reinstall the input tray .
82 A-61602 January 2008 8. Reinstall the input tra y by locating and aligning the four t abs on the input tray with the slot s on the scanner . 9. When tabs and slots are in place, roll the input tray toward the back of the scanner until it snap s into place.
