This section provides instructions on how to install or replace a PCI car d. Y our computer has two standar d PCI car d slots, one PCI Express x1 car d slot, and one PCI Express x16 graphics card slot. T o install or replace a PCI card, do the following: 1.

Insert the two tabs 2 of the new front fan assembly into the corr esponding holes in the chassis, and press the other two tabs 1 through the holes until the fr ont fan assembly is secur ed in place. 3. Locate the rear fan assembly . See “L ocating components” on page 9. 4. Disconnect the r ear fan assembly cable fr om the syst em fan connector on the system board. See “Locating parts on the system board” on page 10. 5. The r ear fan assembly is attached t o the chassis by four rubber mounts.

Chapter 3. Recover y information This chapt er provides information about the recovery solutions pr ovided by L enovo. This chapt er contains the following t opics: • Creating and using r ecovery me.
Using recovery media This section pr ovides instructions on how to use r ecovery media on differ ent oper ating syst ems. On the Windows 7 oper ating system and the Windows Vista oper ating syst em, you can use recovery media to rest ore the computer to the factory default settings only .
2. In the Rescue and Recovery main window , click the Launch advanced Rescue and Recovery arrow . 3. Click Back up your har d drive and select backup operation options.
• Restor e your hard disk drive to the fact ory default settings The Rescue and Recovery workspace enables you to rest ore the complete cont ents of your hard disk drive t o the fact ory default settings.
• T o create a r escue medium on the Windows 7 oper ating system, do the following: 1. F rom the Windows desktop, click Start ➙ All Programs ➙ Lenovo ThinkVantage T ools ➙ Enhanced Backup and Restore . The Rescue and Recovery pr ogram opens. 2.
2. Use Windows Explorer or My Computer t o display the directory structure of your har d disk drive. 3. Go to the C:SWTOOLS dir ectory . 4. Open the DRIVERS folder . Within the DRIVERS folder , ther e ar e several subfolders named for various devices installed in your computer , such as A UDIO or VIDEO .
Chapter 4. Using the Setup Utility pr ogram The Setup Utility pr ogram is used to view and change the congur ation settings of your comput er , regar dless of which oper ating syst em you ar e using. However , the operating system settings might override any similar settings in the Setup Utility progr am.
• Not be your name or your user name • Not be a common word or a common name • Be signicantly different fr om your pr evious passwor ds P ower-On Password When a P ower-On P assword is set, you are prompt ed to type a valid password each time the comput er is turned on.

Symptom Action The operating system does not start. V erify that: • The startup sequence includes the device where the operating system r esides. Usually, the oper ating system is on the hard disk drive. F or more information, see “Selecting a startup device” on page 51 .
PC-Doctor for Rescue and Recover y The PC-Doctor for Rescue and Recovery diagnostic pr ogram is part of the Rescue and Recovery workspace on each Lenovo comput er . Use the PC-Doctor for Rescue and Recovery diagnostic progr am if you are unable t o start the Windows oper ating system.
Note: Y ou can insert the disc into the optical drive when you ar e setting the startup device sequence. However , if you insert the disc into the optical drive when you have already enter ed the operating syst em, you need to restart the comput er to access the diagnostic progr am.
