Observe the following rules when working on electrical equipment. Important: Use only appr oved t ools and test equipment. Some hand tools have handles covered with a soft material that does not insulate you when working with live electrical curr ents.

Chapter 5. Using the Setup Utility The Setup Utility pr ogram is used t o view and change the congur ation settings of your computer , regar dless of which oper ating system you are using. However , the oper ating syst em settings might override any similar settings in the Setup Utility pr ogram.
Administrator P assword Setting an Administr ator Passwor d det ers unauthoriz ed persons fr om changing conguration settings. Y ou might want to set an Administrat or P assword if you are responsible for maintaining the settings of sever al computers.
T o set a P ower -On P assword, do the following: 1. Start the L enovo BIOS Setup Utility pr ogram (See ”Starting the L enovo BIOS Setup Utility pr ogram” on page 13.) 2. F rom the Security menu, select Set Power -On P assword and pr ess the Enter key .
Select A T A Device Setup , press the Enter key, then select SA T A Mode . Select Audio Setup , press the Enter key, then select Onboard Audio Controller . Select Network Setup , press the Enter key, then select Onboard Ethernet Support or LAN Boot Agent .

Replacing the k eyboard and mouse Attention: T urn off the computer and wait 3 to 5 minutes to let it cool down before r emoving the cover . T o replace the keyboard and mouse Step 1. Remove any media (disks, CDs, DVDs or memory cards) from the drives, shut down the oper ating system, and turn off the computer and all attached devices.
Step 2. Locat e the connect or for the power cord. Refer t o “Rear view” . Step 3. Disconnect the failing power cord and adapter fr om the comput er and connect the new power cord and adapter to the same connector . Removing the base cover Note: T urn off the comput er and wait 3 to 5 minutes to let it cool down before r emoving the cover .
Step 5. Return the computer to an upright position, then lift the base cover up and slide it out as shown. Step 6. T o r eattach the base cover: a. Line up the base cover with the base, slide it back and snap it int o position. b. Place the computer face-down on a soft at surface, then secure the base cover to the base with the 7 screws.
Step 5. Remove the 2 screws that secure the har d disk drive t o the motherboard. 1 Step 6. Disconnect the data and power cable fr om the har d disk drive. 2 1 1 2 Step 7. Slide the hard disk drive and rubber out of the bay as shown. Step 8. Detach the rubbers from the har d disk drive as shown.
c. Secur e the new hard disk drive to motherboar d with the 2 screws. d. Connect the data and power cable to the new har d disk drive and motherboar d. Step 10. Reattach the base cover and secure it with the screws. Replacing a memory module Attention: T urn off the computer and wait 3 to 5 minutes to let it cool down before r emoving the cover .
Step 5. Remove the 3 scr ews that secure the system fan to the heat-sink. 1 Step 6. Disconnect the power cable from the motherboard. 2 Step 7. Lift the system fan up to r emove it. 3 1 2 3 Step 8. Line up the new system fan, then secure it to the heat-sink and connect the new power cable to the motherboar d.
Step 7. Remove the heat-sink by lifting it up. Attention: Place the heat-sink upside down on a at surface to pr event thermal grease fr om contaminating other components. Attention: Use an alcohol pad t o wipe the thermal grease off the heat-sink and CPU .
Step 8. Lift the microprocessor straight up and out of the socket. 3 1 2 3 Attention: Do not touch the gold contacts on the bottom of the micropr ocessor . When handling the micropr ocessor , touch only the sides. Note: Do not drop anything ont o the microprocessor sock et while it is exposed.
Step 11. L ower the microprocessor str aight down into its socket on the motherboard. Step 12. T o secur e the micropr ocessor in the socket, close the micr oprocessor r etainer and lock it into position with the small handle. Step 13. Use a thermal grease syringe to place 5 drops of grease on the top of the micr oprocessor .
Step 6. Remove the 3 scr ews that secur e the optical drive to the motherboard and lift it up t o remove it. Step 7. Remove the 5 scr ews that secure the optical drive t o the bracket and disconnect the data cable from the optical drive. Step 8. Install the new optical drive as follows: a.
Replacing the solid state disk Note: T urn off the comput er and wait 3 to 5 minutes to let it cool down before r emoving the cover . T o r eplace the solid state disk Step 1. Remove any media (disks, CDs, DVDs, or memory cards) fr om the drives, shut down the oper ating system, and turn off the computer and all attached devices.
Step 6. Lift up the optical drive eject board t o r emove it. Step 7. T o install the new optical drive eject boar d: a. Connect the new optical drive eject board t o the motherboar d. b. Secur e the new optical drive eject boar d to the motherboard with the 2 screws.
Step 14. Remove the 8 scr ews that secur e the motherboar d to the chassis and slide it out as shown. Step 15. Remove the 2 screws that secure the TV - T uner car d t o the motherboard. Step 16. Disconnect the antenna cable(s) fr om the TV - T uner car d.
Step 18. Use a at head screwdriver as a lever t o prise out the battery as shown. Step 19. T o install the new motherboar d: a. Insert the battery (CR2032) into the sock et with the side labeled “+” facing up, and pr ess the batt ery into place.
Step 10. Remove the 8 scr ews that secur e the motherboar d to the chassis and slide it out as shown. Step 11. Remove the 4 screws that secure the speak er system to the motherboar d. Step 12. Detach the speaker fr om the chassis. Step 13. T o install the new speak er syst em: a.
Replacing the TV tuner card Note: T urn off the comput er and wait 3 to 5 minutes to let it cool down before r emoving the cover . T o r eplace the TV tuner card Step 1. Remove any media (disks, CDs, DVDs, or memory cards) fr om the drives, shut down the oper ating system, and turn off the computer and all attached devices.
Step 13. P ull the TV- T uner car d upward to r emove it fr om the card port on the motherboard. Step 14. T o install the new TV - T uner card: a. Insert the notched end of the TV - T uner card into the car d port on the motherboar d. b. Secur e new the TV - T uner car d t o the motherboard with the 2 screws.
Step 10. Remove the 8 scr ews that secur e the motherboar d to the chassis and slide it out as shown. Step 11. Use a at head screwdriver as a lever t o prise out the battery as shown.
Step 1. Remove any media (disks, CDs, DVDs, or memory cards) fr om the drives, shut down the oper ating system, and turn off the computer and all attached devices. Step 2. Unplug all power cor ds from electrical outlets. Step 3. Disconnect all cables attached to the computer .
Step 8. Reattach the base cover and secure it with the scr ews. Removing the rear cover Note: T urn off the comput er and wait 3 to 5 minutes to let it cool down before r emoving the cover .
Step 7. Put the head of a at head screwdriver between the middle frame and the rear cover as shown. Then using the scr ewdriver as a lever and the middle fr ame metal bar as the fulcrum, prise the r ear cover away from the middle fr ame. 1 F u l c ru m L e ve r 1 Step 8.
Step 8. Remove the scalar shielding and set it aside. Step 9. Disconnect all the cables fr om the scalar boar d. Step 10. Remove the 5 screws that secure the scalar boar d to the middle fr ame and lift it up to remove it.
a. Line up the holes on the new scalar board with the mounting holes on the middle fr ame and secure it with the 5 scr ews. b. Connect all the cables to the new scalar board. c. Reattach the scalar shielding to the middle frame with the 3 scr ews. Step 12.
a. Line up the holes on the new touch control board with the mounting holes on the middle fr ame and secure it with the 2 screws. b. Connect all the cables t o the new t ouch control board.
Step 10. T o install the new convert er boar d: a. Line up the holes on the new converter board with the mounting holes on the middle frame and secure it with the 4 screws. b. Connect the 2 cables to the new converter boar d. Step 11. Reattach the r ear cover to the LED panel.
Step 8. Remove the screw that secures the power switch board t o the LED panel and lift up the power switch board to remove it. Step 9. T o install the power switch board: a. Line up the hole on the new power switch board with the mounting hole on the LED panel and secure it with the scr ew.
Step 6. Remove the rear cover . Refer to “Removing the r ear cover” . Step 7. Use a small at head screwdriver to prise the Bluet ooth module away from the socket. 1 2 Step 8. Disconnect the cable from the Bluet ooth module. 3 1 2 3 Step 9. T o install the new Bluet ooth module: a.
Step 9. Lift up the WLAN card t o remove it from the socket. 1 1 1 1 2 4 3 Step 10. T o install the new WLAN card: a. Connect the data cable to the new WLAN card. b. Line up the new WLAN car d with the socket, snap it into position and secure it with the pins.
Step 8. Lift up the camer a 2 and disconnect the data cable from the camera. 3 1 2 3 1 Step 9. T o install the new camer a: a. Connect the data cable t o the new camer a. b. Line up the holes in the new camer a with the mounting holes on the front bezel and secure it with the 2 scr ews.
Step 9. Lift up the fr ont function boar d to remove it from the fr ont bez el. 3 3 1 2 1 Step 10. T o install the new front function boar d: a. Connect the data cable t o the new front function board. b. Line up the holes in the new front function boar d with the mounting holes on the fr ont bez el and secure it with the 2 screws.
Step 7. Remove the scalar board. Refer to “Replacing the scalar boar d” . Step 8. Remove the touch control board. Refer to “Replacing the touch contr ol boar d” . Step 9. Remove the converter boar d. Refer t o “Replacing the converter board ” .
Step 17. Remove the 6 scr ews that secure the hinge to the middle frame and set the hinge aside. Step 18. T o install the new the LED panel: a. Line up the holes on the hinge with the mounting holes on the new middle fr ame and secur e it with 6 screws.
