15 Chapter 2 Installation This Chapter covers the physical installation of the LevelOne Broadband Router. Requirements • Network cable - standard 10/100BaseT network (UTP) cable with RJ45 connec tors. • TCP/IP protocol must be installed on all PCs.
LevelOne Broadband Router User Guide 16 3. Connect WAN Cable Connect the DSL or Cable modem to the WAN port on the LevelOne Broadband Router. Use the cable supplied with your DSL/Cable modem. If no cable was supplied, use a stan - d ard cable. 4. Power Up • Power on the Cable or DSL modem.
Installation 17 2. Connect LAN Cable Use standard LAN cables to connect PCs to t he Switching Hub ports on the LevelOne Broadband Router. Both 10BaseT and 100BaseT connections can be used simultaneously. If required, connect any port to a normal port on another Hub, using a standard LAN ca ble.

If it stays on, there is a hardware error. • The Power LED should be ON. • One (1) of the LAN LEDs ( 10 or 100 ) should be ON. • The WAN LED should be ON. • If the printer is On and On - line, t h e Print Act LED should be ON.

21 Chapter 3 Setup This Chapter provides Setup details of the LevelOne Broadband Router. Overview This chapter describes the setup procedure for: • Internet Access • LAN configuration • Assigning a Password to protect the configuration data. PCs on your local LAN may also require configuration.
LevelOne Broadband Router User Guide 22 Configuration Program The LevelOne Broadband Router contains an HTTP server. This enables you to connect to it, and config ure it, using your Web Browser. Your Browser must support JavaScript . The con - figuration program has been tested on the following browsers: • Netscape V4.
Setup 23 If you can't connect If t he LevelOne Broadband Router does not respond, check the following: • The LevelOne Broadband Router is properly installed, LAN connection is OK, and it is powered ON. You can test the connection by using the "Ping" com - mand: • Open the MS - DOS window or command p rompt window.

Advanced Features 61 Special Applications If you use Internet applications which use non- standard co nnections or port numbers, you may find that they do not function correctly because they are blocked by the LevelOne Broadband Router's firewall.

Name Enter a descriptive name to identify this Special Application. Incomin g Ports • Type - Select the protocol (TCP or UDP) used when you receive data from the special application or service.
Advanced Features 63 DMZ This feature, if enabled, allows one (1) computer on your LAN to be exposed to all users on the Internet, allowing unr estricted 2- way communica tion between the "DMZ PC" and other Internet users or Servers. • This allows almost any application to be used on the "DMZ PC".
