Loading paper and specialty media This chapt er cov ers the s electio n and handling of paper and specialty m edia. P roper selectio n and loading of medi a can improv e how reliably d ocumen ts print. Fo r more info rmation , see “Avoiding jams ” on page 142 and “Sto ring pap er” on page 53.
Loading the 250 ‑ and 550 ‑ sheet tray The print er has one 250-sh eet tray (Tr ay 1) with an integ rated manual feeder. The 250-sheet tr ay, the 650-sheet duo tray, and the 55 0-shee t tray supp ort th e same pa per si zes and t ypes and are lo aded in the same way.
3 Squeeze, and then slide the lengt h guide tab to the correct position for t he size of the pape r being loaded. 1 2 Note: Use the paper size in dicato rs on the b ottom of the t ray to hel p positi on the g uide. 4 Squeeze, and then slide th e width guide tab to the corr ect position for the size of the pap er being loaded.

6 Load the paper, and then adjust the width guide to lightly touch the edge of the paper stack. • Load paper, card stock, and transparencies with the recommended printable side facedown and the top edge entering the p rinter first. • Load en velope s with the flap s ide up a nd aga inst the right side o f the pape r gui de.

Linkin g and u nlinkin g tray s When the paper s ize and paper type for any trays are the same, t he printer links those trays. When one linked tray become s empty, pap er will f eed fro m the ne xt link ed tray.
