5 Prefac e What’ s in This Guide Use this guide when you wan t to migrate data t o Mac OS X Ser ver version 1 0.3 from previous v ersions of the ser ver . The guide contains procedures for reusing data you’v e been using on older ser vers when you can’ t or don’ t want to upgrade.

1 7 1 Before Y ou Begin T ake a few moments to become familiar with upgrading and migrating . If you’ re using Mac OS X version 1 0. 1 or 1 0.2, you may not need to migrate. Y ou might be able to upgrade your ser ver , a process that installs and sets up Mac OS X Ser ver version 1 0.
8 Chapter 1 Before You Begin Even if your existing ser ver meets the minimum requirements for upgrading, you may want to migrate instead of upgrade. F or example, you may be updating some of your computers and decide that you want to reestablish your ser ver environmen t on one or more of the updated computers .
Chapter 1 Before You Begin 9 The AppleShare IP Migration utility preserves existing user and group accounts (and , optionally , other data) without using expor t files.

The home directory location identified in impor ted user accounts must match the physical location of the restor ed home directories, including the share point location.
