4 1. PRODUCT FEA TURES 1.1 Product Introduction This 16CH DVR is a triplex digita l recorder with a 16ch multiplexe r , capable of T riplex simultaneous recording, playback and live multi-scre en viewing; it uses two hard disks and a CD-R W drive instead of VCR tapes to store video ( FOR C D-ROM MODEL O NL Y ).

6 2. DESCRIPTION OF THE FRONT/REAR VIEW 2.1 Front V iew FOR CD-ROM MODEL 1 CD-RW dev ice compartment : The compart ment allows you to burn the data mostly for backup pu rposes. This tray is for loading the CD disc. It will accept 120 mm and 80 mm discs.
7 5 Jog Dial: This dial can act in both a forward and a backward dire ction, as well as step by st ep. T urn this left to play a recorded video in the reverse direction. Turn this rig ht to play a recorded video in the forward direction. Moreover , the dial can be rota ted so you can mov e the focus to any item or function.
8 15 call button: If you connect to the call monitor, the "Call" butt on enables you to select chann els on this monitor. Press the "Call" button and any particular chan nel button on the front panel sim ultaneously to display that channel.
9 2.2 Rear V iew 29 30 75 Ω /Hi-Z Individual termination: These 16 switches are used to set the impedance of each loop through output connectors (31) between 75 and Hi-Z. T oggle the corresponding impedance terminat ion to the Hi -Z position, if another device i s connected to the video loop throu gh connector .

11 3. INST ALLA TION Please follow the instructions and the di agram below to set up the system. 3.1 Basic Connection CONNECTING WITH 1 to 16 CAMERAS A TT ACHING AN EXTERNAL DEVICE TO DVR Connect an alarm out, alarm input, and a peripheral d evice as shown in the diagram below .
12 3.2 Hard-Disk Drive Inst allation The 16CH DVR is equipped with two com partment s of hard-disk drives and a CD-RW drive ( FO R CD-ROM MODEL ONL Y ). The unit usually comes with one hard -disk drive instal led in the compartment HD1, which is default-configured as a master .
13 3.3 HDD Information and channel selection 3.3.1 HDD information Y ou can display the HDD information as shown on Figure 3.3 A below at an y time by pressing the Display button . In the playback mode, the recorded video in formation is displayed. In the live or recording mode, the Manual Recording informatio n is displayed.
14 3.4 Up dating System Software If the system software of the 16CH DVR need s to be upgraded, please ta ke the following steps to safely update it. Important: Before carrying out the follo w ing procedures, please ensure the SD card is working and the system sof tware file is intact.
15 4. BASIC OPERA TIONS This section shows you how to operate and manage t he DVR. 4.1 Recording Operations This section det ails the way to record video into ha rd-disk drives. Before comm encing with the recording function, please configure the reco rding setting properly according to your needs.
16 NOTE: Y ou can proceed to st art the scheduled reco rding fr om the current time if it is in the scheduled interlude as soon as the setting is complete, and come out from the menu to st art recording.

18 4.1.3 Alarm Recording T ake the following steps to activate th e programmed alarm recording. For ALARM settings, please refer to section 5.6.1 for more det ails. (1) Press the menu button to enter the MAIN MENU . (2) Select the ADV ANCED SETTING and press the Enter button to enter the ADV ANCED SETTING page .
19 4.1.4 Externally triggered Recording By connecting the RECORD IN of ALARM I/O on the rear panel of the DVR, you can activate/deactivate the recording function of a DVR. NOTE: The st atus of recording operations when an alarm t akes place is shown in the diagrams below .
20 4.2 Playback Operations This section shows you ho w to operate the fast, slow , and single-picture playback function s, and details how the unit is to playback a file in a dif ferent oper ation st atus. Please refer to the following paragraph s specifying the relevant details.
21 4.2.3 Playback Picture-by-picture While playing back reco rded video at the recorded speed: (1) Press the P AUSE button for the picture-by-picture mode.

28 (2) Backup to HD3. Press the “Search” button and enter the SEARCH p age. Move the focus to BACKUP and enter the BACKUP MENU pa ge. Set the DA TE , TIME and DURA TION in the menu. Adjust the shuttle to set the desired values in the entries; the maximum value for DURA TION is 72 hours 59 minutes .
29 4.4.3 Security Digit al Card (SD Card) Backup Operations The SD card slot of the front unit has four functions as sh own below: 1. Archive Single image Clip s into the SD Card Please take t he following steps to archive a criti cal image in an SD card.

31 4.5 Key Lock Operations ● To activate the key lock function. (1) Press the Menu button to enter the MAIN MENU page. (2) Select ADVANCE SETTING to enter the ADVANCE SETTING page. (3) Select OPERATION LOCK to enter the OPERATION LOCK mode. (4) Select FRONT KEY LOCK to enable its function.
32 4.6 T r iplex Operations 4.6.1 Live mode: ● Simult aneous live viewings of an y one channel in multiple channels. (1) Use the enter button to show a red-framed Chann el 1. (2) Press the enter button to move the red-framed rect angle to Channel 2, and so on to the other channels consecutively until you arrive at your cho sen channel.
33 5. MENU SETUP There are 9 functional items for operation setting in the setup menu system as shown below . The following sections will instruct you st ep by step to configur e the operation setting and will st ate each item’s purpose and options.
34 5.1 QUICK SETTING This page enables you to rapidly install your desired setting. For more detailed changes, enter each item page. 1. TIME SETTING: You can set the system time here. 2. DATE SETTING: Records the sy stem date. 3. TITLE SETTING: Fixes a desired title.
35 5.2 DISPLAY OPTION This item enables you to fix the display labels on your scree n . 1. TIME MODE: You have a choice between using a 12 HR or a 24 HR mode. 12 HR: Shows the time in the a.m. and p.m. mode in the setting. 24 HR: Gives a 24 - hour reading.
36 2. TIME DISPLAY COLOR: You can choose bet ween red , yellow , blue , green , black , and whi t e . 3. DATE DISPLAY: Select to ON or OFF as desired. 4. DATE DISPLAY COLOR: Select any of the six colors, namely red , yellow , green , blue , black , and wh it e .
37 9. DA YLIGHT SA VING SETTING: This entry allows users to set the daylight saving time. 1. NONE: Disables the daylight saving time. 2. EUROPE GMT +00:00: Daylight saving time begins at 1:00 a.m. on t he last Sunday of March. T ime reverts to standard time at 2:00 a.
38 5.3 SEQUENCE SETTING This page enables you to use ten modes to set t he sequen ce of displays you want for the main monitor, and a single mod e for the call monitor. The dwell tim e for displays in each channel can be set at your own preference anywhere bet ween 0 ( no - show ) and 99 seconds when you press the Sequence button.
39 5.4 PICTURE ADJUST This page enables you to position your image s the way you desire. 1. H POSITION: Horizontal position. 2. V POSITION: Vertical position. 3. LIVE PICTURE: You can ch ange or adjust, in each channel, the NOISE FILT ER function, BRIGHT , CONTRAST , COLOR a nd HUE of the images.
40 5.6 AVANCED SETTING This page includes multip le special functions. 5.6.1 ALARM SETTING This page enables you to set all the various alarm - related functions. The device will record as long a s the alarm is activating. 1. ALARM DURATION : Set the desired time period.
41 4. ALARM RECORD RATE: For an NTSC unit we provide many different speeds from 0 to 60 fields per se cond, and for a PAL unit the figures are from 0 to 50 F/S . 5. ALARM RECORD MODE: Each channel is provided with four categorie s of alarm record rates: NORMAL , DOUBLE , INT ERLEA VED , and EXCLUSIVE .
42 1. RECORD QUALITY: You can enter and set each channel's record qu ality at 4 different levels of image recording from " BEST "," HIGH ", and " STANDARD " to " BASIC ". 2. NORMAL RECORD RA TE: The rate range is from 1 field per second (F/S) to 60 F/S.
43 5.6.4 COVERT CAMERA Enter and activate each cha nnel to ON or deactivate to OFF for hidden or exp osed recording respectively. 5.6.5 OPERATION LOCK We provide you with 4 kinds of locks: 1. FRONT KEY LOCK: Turn ON to lock, and to deactivate the key lock function, turn the FRONT KEY LOCK to OFF .
44 5.6.6 COMMUNICATI ON We provide you with two settings: the RS 232 and RS 485. 1. RS-232 SETTING: You have the option of usi ng an ID code ( any num ber between 0 and 9999 ) or a Baud rate ( at 5 different levels : 1200 , 2400 , 4800 , 9600 , and 19200 ).
45 5.6.7 DISK SETUP Enter the disk mode to select your desired setting. 1. DISK FULL: This option determines the way to utilize storage media in case of a full disk. REWRITE: When the hard-disk is full, the device co ntinue s recording by displacing the old data.
46 9. RETURN: Go back to the previous page. 5.6.8 SCHEDULE Enter the setting to set up 8 forms of schedule. A schedule can change the re cord setting as well as the alarm setting at designated times. You can dire ctly " ENABLE " or " DISABLE " each schedule.
47 8. RETURN: Go back to the previou s page. 5.6.9 RETURN To exit the “ ADVANCED SETTING ” page choose “ RETURN ” and go back to the “ MAI N MENU ” page. 5.7 DEFAULT SETTING This page enables you to save and reload the default settings. 1.
48 5.8 PASSWORD SETTING This page enables you to set the password. 1. MENU PASSWORD. This option lets you set a password to block any una uthorized entry. ENTER NEW MENU PASSWO RD: Type in a 4 - digit number password of your choice to replace the previou s one.
49 5.9 EXIT MENU If you wish to exit the menu, focus on this item and enter. 1. EXIT MENU WITHOUT SAVING: Enter to exit at once without saving any settings.
50 6. NETGUARD SYSTEM: Introduction NETGUARD SYSTEM : This version of the NETGUARD SYSTEM uses the Microsof t .Net Framework version. The .Net Frame work performs the XML Web Serv ices which applies this operatio n system. The .Net Framework provides a very high performance enviro nment to solve the network program.
51 6.1 TCP/IP Communication Setup Follow the instructions below to inst all the TCP/IP co mmunication program into your co mputer . 1 . Click the Star t Menu from your computer , and point to the Control p anel. 2 .Click the Network Connections icon twice to enter the Netwo rk setting windows.
52 3. Click on the Con figuration tag; chec k if the TCP/IC is includ ed among the network component s list. If the TCP/IP is incl uded, please process step 5. If it is not included, please follo w step 4 to install the TCP/IP . 4. TCP/IP inst allation During the installation, you will be requested to insert the windows XP CD ROM.

T ype in ping 192.168.1.1 then Enter . (See the sample screen belo w) ** This IP is the DVR IP address t hat is assigned for the connected DVR .
55 4. If you receive a response as in the sample screen below , you have successfully made the connection. 6.3 Software installation. Step 1: Exit all applications currently running in the selected PC. Step 2: Insert the suppor ted PC in the CD - ROM device.
56 Step 4: The installation screen will show the message "C : Program Files NETGUARD ". Or you can select the path you want. ※ Note: Cli ck "Next" to continue the installation. Step 5 : The window below tells you the pro c ess is complete.
57 Step 6 : After completing installation, you can double - click the file shown below. Or click the "Start Menu" in the computer and select "Programs" to open the "Program Selection" pag e. Then click the "NETGURD SYSTEM" tag to start the program.
