Black plate (19,1) Rear of seat bottom Raise or lower the back of the switch to adjust the rear height of the seat bottom. q Lumbar Support Adjustment The amount of lumbar support can be adjusted by pressing the switch . T o increase the seat firmness, press an d hold the front part of the switch to the desired position, then release it.
Black plate (20,1) q Seat W armer The front seats are electrica lly heated. The ignition switch must be in the ON position. Press the switch to turn the seat warmer on or off. When the switch is in the ON position, the indicator light will come on. NOTE The seat temperature is r egulated automatically by a thermostat.
Black plate (21,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to decrease the possibility of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. All of the seat belt retractors are designed to keep the lap/shoulder belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (22,1) Have your seat belts changed immed iately if the pretensioner or load limiter has been expended: One or both front air bags may deploy, and th e corresponding pretensi oner(s) may also deploy at the same time.

The lap belt should be worn SNUGL Y AND AS LOW AS POSSIBLE OVER THE HIPS. The shoulder belt should be worn across your shoulder properly , but never across the stomach area.

Black plate (26,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the buckle. If the belt does not fully retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twist s. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retr acts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully r etract, inspect it for kinks and twists.

Black plate (29,1) Seat Belt Extender If your seat belt is not long enough, even when fully extended, a seat belt extender may be available to you at no charge from your Authorized Mazda Dealer . This extender will be only for you and for the particular vehicle and seat.

If the seat belt extender is left connected, the seat belt extender might get damaged as it will not r etract with the r est of the seat belt and can easily fall out of the door when not in use and be damaged.

Black plate (52,1) How the Air Bags W ork q How the Front Air Bags W ork When air bag crash sensors detect a front al impact of greater than moderate force, an electrical curren t is sent to the inflators. Gases are produced to inflate the front air bags and after the inflation, the front air bags quickly deflate.

If the front door is closed while a passenger is operating the rear door handle, a hand or fingers could be injured if the handle is forced back.

If the rear door is not completely closed, the front door will not be securely closed . This could cause the front door to open unexpectedly while driving and may result in an accident.
Black plate (94,1) q Opening and Closing the T runk WARNING Close the trunk lid and do not allow children to play inside the vehicle: Leaving the trunk lid open or leaving children in the vehicle with the keys is dangerous. Black plate (95,1) Closing the trunk lid Grasp the inner handle and pull the trunk lid down, then push the trunk lid down until it locks securely . Be careful not to slam it. Pull up on the trunk lid to make sure it is secured. Handle q T runk Light The trunk light is on when the lid is open and off when it's closed.

Black plate (98,1) q Power Window Lock Switch W ith the lock switch in the unlock ed position, all power windows on ea ch door can be operated. W ith the lock switch in the locked position, only the driver's side power window can be operated.
Black plate (99,1) Fuel-Filler Lid and Cap WARNING When removing the fuel cap, loosen the cap slightly and wait for any hissing to stop. Then remove it: Fuel spray is dangerous. Fuel can burn skin and eyes and cause illness if ingested. Fuel spra y is released when there is pressure in the fuel tank and the fuel cap is removed too quickly.

If the light remains on (eve n after you have tightened the cap securely, driven, and restarted the engine several times), it may indicate a different problem.

Black plate (103,1) Immobilizer System (with Advanced Key) The immobilizer system allows the engine to start only with an advanced key the system recognizes. If someone attempts to start the engine with an unrecognized key , the eng ine will not start, thereby helping to prevent the theft of your vehicle.
Black plate (104,1) q Operation Arming The system is armed when the ignitio n switch is turned from the ON position to the ACC or LOCK position . The security indicator light in the inst rument cluster flashes every 2 seconds until the system is disarmed.
