Black plate (19,1) Rear of seat bottom Raise or lower the back of the switch to adjust the rear height of the seat bottom. q Lumbar Support Adjustment The amount of lumbar support can be adjusted by pressing the switch . T o increase the seat firmness, press an d hold the front part of the switch to the desired position, then release it.
Black plate (20,1) q Seat W armer The front seats are electrica lly heated. The ignition switch must be in the ON position. Press the switch to turn the seat warmer on or off. When the switch is in the ON position, the indicator light will come on. NOTE The seat temperature is r egulated automatically by a thermostat.
Black plate (21,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to decrease the possibility of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. All of the seat belt retractors are designed to keep the lap/shoulder belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (22,1) Have your seat belts changed immed iately if the pretensioner or load limiter has been expended: One or both front air bags may deploy, and th e corresponding pretensi oner(s) may also deploy at the same time.
Black plate (23,1) q Pregnant W omen and Persons with Serious Medical Conditions Pregnant women should always wear seat belts. Ask your doctor for specific recommendations. The lap belt should be worn SNUGL Y AND AS LOW AS POSSIBLE OVER THE HIPS. The shoulder belt should be worn across your shoulder properly , but never across the stomach area.

Black plate (26,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the buckle. If the belt does not fully retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twist s. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retr acts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully r etract, inspect it for kinks and twists.

Black plate (29,1) Seat Belt Extender If your seat belt is not long enough, even when fully extended, a seat belt extender may be available to you at no charge from your Authorized Mazda Dealer . This extender will be only for you and for the particular vehicle and seat.

If the seat belt extender is left connected, the seat belt extender might get damaged as it will not r etract with the r est of the seat belt and can easily fall out of the door when not in use and be damaged.
Black plate (31,1) The belt minder is a supplemental warning to the seat belt warning function. If the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the warning light/b eep operates to give you further reminders according to the chart below .

Clicking from the retractor will be heard during retraction if the system is in the automatic locking mode. If the belt does not lock the seat down tight, repeat this step.

Black plate (52,1) How the Air Bags W ork q How the Front Air Bags W ork When air bag crash sensors detect a front al impact of greater than moderate force, an electrical curren t is sent to the inflators. Gases are produced to inflate the front air bags and after the inflation, the front air bags quickly deflate.
Black plate (53,1) Front passenger seat weight sensors Y our vehicle is equipped with the front passenger seat weight sensors (page 2-27). These sensors are located under both of the front passenger seat rails. These sensors determine the total seated weight on the front passenger seat.

Black plate (92,1) CAUTION Before closing a fron t door make sure other passengers are not operating a rear door and a rear passenger's head or hands are away from the rear door. If the front door is closed while a passenger is operating the rear door handle, a hand or fingers could be injured if the handle is forced back.
Black plate (93,1) WARNING Make sure the rear door is close d securely before closing the front door: Driving with the doors not securely closed is dangerous. If the rear door is not completely closed, the front door will not be securely closed . This could cause the front door to open unexpectedly while driving and may result in an accident.
Black plate (94,1) q Opening and Closing the T runk WARNING Close the trunk lid and do not allow children to play inside the vehicle: Leaving the trunk lid open or leaving children in the vehicle with the keys is dangerous. Children could open the trunk lid and climb inside resulting in possible injury or death from heat exposure.
Black plate (95,1) Closing the trunk lid Grasp the inner handle and pull the trunk lid down, then push the trunk lid down until it locks securely . Be careful not to slam it. Pull up on the trunk lid to make sure it is secured. Handle q T runk Light The trunk light is on when the lid is open and off when it's closed.
Black plate (96,1) q Opening the T runk Lid from the Inside Slide the inside trunk release lever in the direction of the arrow . The lever is made of material that will glow for hours in the darkness of the trunk following a brief exposure to ambient light.

Black plate (98,1) q Power Window Lock Switch W ith the lock switch in the unlock ed position, all power windows on ea ch door can be operated. W ith the lock switch in the locked position, only the driver's side power window can be operated.
Black plate (99,1) Fuel-Filler Lid and Cap WARNING When removing the fuel cap, loosen the cap slightly and wait for any hissing to stop. Then remove it: Fuel spray is dangerous. Fuel can burn skin and eyes and cause illness if ingested. Fuel spra y is released when there is pressure in the fuel tank and the fuel cap is removed too quickly.
Black plate (100,1) CAUTION Make sure the fuel-filler cap is tightened securely . The check engine light may illuminate when the cap isn't tightened securely. If the light remains on (eve n after you have tightened the cap securely, driven, and restarted the engine several times), it may indicate a different problem.

Black plate (102,1) q Tilt Operation The rear of the moonroof can be tilted open to provide more ventilation. T o fully tilt automatically , momentar ily push the rear of the tilt switch. T o stop tilting partway , push any part of the tilt or slide switch.
Black plate (103,1) Immobilizer System (with Advanced Key) The immobilizer system allows the engine to start only with an advanced key the system recognizes. If someone attempts to start the engine with an unrecognized key , the eng ine will not start, thereby helping to prevent the theft of your vehicle.
Black plate (104,1) q Operation Arming The system is armed when the ignitio n switch is turned from the ON position to the ACC or LOCK position . The security indicator light in the inst rument cluster flashes every 2 seconds until the system is disarmed.
Black plate (105,1) q Maintenance If you have a problem with the immobilizer system or the key , consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer . NOTE l The advanced keys (including auxiliary key) carry a unique electr onic code.
Black plate (106,1) CAUTION When starting the engine do not allow the following, as the engine may not start due to the electronic signal from the ignition key not being transmitted correctly. Ø A key ring rests on the key grip. Ø Metal parts of other keys or metal objects touch the key grip.

Black plate (108,1) Theft-Deterrent System í If the theft deterrent system detects an inappropriate entry into the vehicle, which could result in the vehicle or its contents being stolen, the alarm alerts the surrounding area of an abnormality by sounding the horn and flas hing the hazard warning lights.
Black plate (109,1) q T o T urn off an Armed System An armed system can be turned off by any one of the following methods: l Unlock a door with the key . l Press the unlock button on the keyles s entry system transmitter . l Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the ON position.
