Black plate (20,1) Setting the driver' s seat to a pre- programmed position There are two methods for setting the driver's seat to a pre-programmed position.

Press and hold the unlock button on the advanced key/retractabl e type key while pressing the set butt on until a beep sound is heard.
Black plate (22,1) Electrically operated The amount of lumbar support can be adjusted by pressing the switch . T o increase the seat firmness, press and hold the front part of the switch to the desired position, then release it. Press the rear part of the switch to decrease firmness.

Leaving th e seatback unlocked is dangerous as it can allow passengers to be ejected or thrown around and baggag e to strike occupants in a sudden stop or collision, resulting in severe injury.

Black plate (25,1) q Third-Row Seat Access After folding the second-row seat seatback and sliding the seat forward, you can access the third-row seat easily . Entering/exiting the third-row seat area Raise the lever on the side of the second- row seat to fold the seatback forw ard and slide the seat forward.
Black plate (26,1) 4. Pull the lever and fold the seatb ack forward. CAUTION When folding a seatback, always hold onto the seatbac k with your other hand whi le operating the lever. If the seatback is not supported, it will flip forward sudd enly and could cause injury.
Black plate (27,1) Third-Row Seat WARNING Do not stack car go higher than the seatbacks: Stacking luggage or other cargo higher than the seatbacks is dangerous. During a sudden stop or collision, objects can fly arou nd and become projectiles that could hit and injure passengers.

Black plate (31,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to d ecrease the possibility of severe injury durin g accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. Y our vehicle has the following types of seat belts.
Black plate (32,1) WARNING Always wear your seat belt and ma ke sure all occupants are pro perly restrained: Not wearing a seat belt is extremely danger ous. During a collision, occupants not wearing seat belts could hit someone or things ins ide the vehicle or even be thrown out of the vehicle.
Black plate (33,1) CAUTION Belt retraction may become diffic ult if the belts and rings are soiled, so try to keep them clean. For more details about cleaning the seat belts, refer to “ Cleaning the Lap/Shoulder Belt Webbing ” (page 8-58).
Black plate (34,1) q Automatic Locking Mode Always use the automatic locking mode to keep the child-restraint system from shif ting to an unsafe position in the event of an acciden t. T o enable seat belt automatic locking mode, pull it all the way out and connect it as instruct ed on the child-restrai nt system.

Black plate (36,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the seat belt buckle . If the belt does not fully retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twists. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retracts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully retract, inspect it for kinks and twists.
Black plate (37,1) Front Seat Belt Pretensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passenger seat belts are equipped with pretensioner and load limiting systems. For both these syst ems to work properly you must wear the seat belt properly .
Black plate (38,1) Do not modify the components or wiring, or use electronic testing devices on the pretensioner system: Modifying the componen ts or wiring of the pretensioner system, including the use of electronic testing devices is dangerous.
Black plate (39,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner System W arning Beep If a malfunction is detected in both the air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system and the warning light, a warning beep sound will be he ard for about 1 minute. After that, the one-minute beep will be repeated every 30 minutes.
Black plate (40,1) WARNING Using the Seat Belt Guide: Not using the seat belt guide is dangerous. If th e seat belt guide is not used, the shoulde r portion of the center-rear seat belt could be mista.
Black plate (41,1) WARNING Positioning the Lap Por tion of the Seat Belt: The lap portion of the seat belt worn too high is dangerous. In a collision, this would concentrate the impa ct force directly on the abdo minal area, causing serious injury. Wear the lap portion of the belt snugly and as low as possible.
Black plate (42,1) T o stow the seat belt, retract the belt, put the seat belt tongues (A) and (C) toget her and insert each tongue into the respective ceiling recess.
Black plate (43,1) Seat Belt Extender If your seat belt is not long enough, even when fully extended, a seat belt extender may be available to you at no charge from your Authorized Mazda Dealer . This extender will be only for you and for the particular vehicle and seat.
Black plate (44,1) NOTE When not in use, remove the seat belt extender and stor e it in the vehicle. If the seat belt extender is left connected, the seat belt extender might get damaged as it will not r etract with the r est of the seat belt and can easily fall out of the door when not in use and be damaged.
Black plate (45,1) Driver seated/Front passenge r not seated The belt minder is a supplemental warning to the seat belt war ning function. If the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the warning light/b eep operates to give you further reminders according to the chart below .
Black plate (46,1) Child Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of child-restraint syst ems for children small enough to use them. Y ou are required by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.
Black plate (47,1) WARNING Use the correct size child-restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accidents and sudden stop s, a child must be properly restrain ed using a seat belt or child-r estraint system dep ending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident.
Black plate (48,1) Do not install a front-faci ng child-restraint system on the front passenger seat unless it is unavoidable: In a collision, th e force of a deployin g air bag could cause serious injury or death to the child.

Black plate (50,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statistics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seats. The front passenger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child under 12, and with rear- facing child-restraint systems it is clearly unsafe due to air bags.

SRS air bags are designed to work together with the seat belt s to help to reduce inju ries during an accide nt. Unlock Lock T o lock any door with the door-lock knob from the outside, push the door-lock knob to the lock position and close the door .
Black plate (11 1,1) Locking, unlocking with key All doors and the liftgate lock automatically when the driver's door is locked with the key . Al l doors and the liftgate unlock when the driver's door is unlocked and the key is held in the unlock position for one second or longer .
