Black plate (22,1) Always leave your car locked and keep the car keys safely away from child ren: Leaving your car unlocked or the keys in reach of children is dangerous. Children who find their way into the trunk through an unlocked rear seatback or an ope n trunk can become accide ntally locked in the trunk.
Black plate (23,1) T o return the seatbacks to the upright position 1. Position the outboard seat belts to the side. 2. Lift the seatbacks upright. 3. Make sure the seat belts are fully pulled out from under the seatbacks. 4. Pull on the top of the seatb acks from inside the vehicle to make sure they are locked.
Black plate (24,1) q Rear Seatback Lock (4 Door) T o lock or unlock a seatback, move the lever . NOTE The seatback locks ar e part of the trunk security system (page 3-16). q Armrest The rear armr est in the center of the rear seatback can be used (no occupant in the center seat) or placed upright.
Black plate (25,1) Rear seat Removal/Installat ion T o remove the head restraint, pull it up while pressing the stop-catch. T o install the head restraint, press the uprights into the holes while pressing the stop-catch.
Black plate (26,1) WARNING Ø Be careful when using the seat warmer. The heat from the seat warmer may be too hot for some people, as ind icated below, and could cause a low-temperature burn.
Black plate (27,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to decrease the possibil ity of severe injury during acciden ts and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belt s. All of the seat belt retractors are desig ned to keep the lap/shoul der belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (28,1) WARNING Always wear your seat belt and make sure all occupants are properly restrained: Not wearing a seat belt is extremely dangerous. During a collis ion, occupants not wearing seat belts could hit someone or th ings inside the veh icle or even be thrown out of the vehicle .
Black plate (29,1) CAUTION Belt retraction may become diffic ult if the belts and rings are soiled, so try to keep them clean. For more details about cleaning the seat belts, refer to “ Cleaning the Lap/Shoulder Belt Webbing ” (page 8-64).
Black plate (30,1) q Automatic Locking Mode Always use the automatic locking mode to keep the child-restraint system from shifting to an unsafe position in the event of an accident. T o enable seat belt automatic locki ng mode, pull it all the way out and connect it as instructed on the child-restrai nt system.

Then make sure it remains untwis ted as it retracts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully retract, inspect it for kinks and twists.
Black plate (33,1) Front Seat Belt Pr etensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passenger seat belts are equipp ed with pretensioner and load limiting systems. For both these systems to work properly you must wear the seat belt properly .
Black plate (34,1) Do not modify the compo nents or wiring, or use elect ronic testing devic es on the pretensioner system: Modifying the componen ts or wiring of the pretensioner system, including the use of electro nic testing devices is dangerous.
Black plate (35,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner System W arni ng Beep If a malfunction is detected in the air bag/ front seat belt pretensioner systems and the warning light, a warning beep sound will be heard for about 5 seconds every minute.
Black plate (36,1) WARNING Fastening the Center-Rear Seat Bel t with Only One Buckle: Fastening the cente r-rear seat belt with only one buckle is danger ous. If only one pai r of seat belt tongue and buckle, either tongue (A) and anchor buckle (B) or tongue (C) and anchor buckle (D), is fastened, the seat belt cannot provide full protecti on.
Black plate (37,1) CAUTION Always unfasten the lap portion of the belt before folding th e left-rear seatback. Leav ing the lap portion of the belt fastened could cause damage to the seat belt, buckle and seatback.
Black plate (38,1) Seat Belt Extender If your seat belt is not long enough, even when fully extended, a seat belt extender may be available to you at no charge from your Authorized Mazda Dealer . This extender will be only for you and for the particular vehicle and seat.
Black plate (39,1) NOTE When not in use, remove the seat belt extender and stor e it in the vehicle. If the seat belt extender is left connected, the seat belt extender might get damaged as it will not r etract with the r est of the seat belt and can easily fall out of the door when not in use and be damaged.
Black plate (40,1) Driver seated/ Front passenger not seated The belt minder is a supplement al warning to the seat belt warning function. If the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the warning light/beep operates to give you further remind ers according to the chart below .
Black plate (41,1) Child Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of child-restrai nt systems for children small enough to use them. Y ou are required by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.
Black plate (42,1) WARNING Use the correct size child -restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accident s and sudden stop s, a child must be properly restrain ed using a seat belt or child-restraint system depending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident.
Black plate (43,1) Seating a child in a child-restraint system on the front pass enger seat is dangerous: Vehicles equipped with front passenger seat weight sensors are also equipped with a front passenger air bag deactivat ion indicator light (page 2-35).

A seat belt used in this way cannot spread the impact forces properly and the two passenger s could be crushed together and seriously inju red or even killed.

Black plate (56,1) Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS) Precautions The front and side supplementa l restraint systems (SRS) incl ude up to 6 air bags. Y ou can locate the various air bags by the use of “ SRS AIRBAG ” location indica tors. These indicators are visible in the area where the air bags are installed.

Black plate (62,1) How the Air Bags W ork q How the Front Air Bags W ork When air bag crash sensors detect a front al impact of great er than moderate force, an electrical curren t is sent to the inflators. Gases are produced to inflate the front air bags and after the infl ation, the front air bags quickly deflate.
Black plate (63,1) Front passenger seat weight sensors Y our vehicle is equipped with a front passen ger seat weight sensor s as a part of the supplemental restraint syst em. (page 2-35). These sensors are located under both of the front passenger seat rails.
